Relative definition for CABS purposes: A Wholesale point-to-point circuit for carrying:• Voice• Email• Web Access• 3G => 4G
DEFINITION – WIRELESS BACKHAUL
www.cdg.ws
Trends 2012-2016:• $39B spent on backhaul switching and transport equipment next 4 years• 2011 demand for wholesale backhaul transport- $2.4B • 2016 demand for wholesale backhaul transport - $3.9B SOURCE BILLING & OSS WORLD | MAY 2012
Business Winners for Wholesale transport:• CLECs• Independent LECs• Key: Non-competing Wireless (wireless neutral by region)• Competitive Pricing – ICB and Contract, quantity discounts, tiered pricing, scalability
BACKHAUL DEMAND
3S

• TDM / T Channel (demand disappearing)• Ethernet (predominant today)• Microwave and Fiber Optic (future)
Elements:• Site Charges (per month per site)• Bundled Per Circuit Rate (not elemental or mileage sensitive)• SLAs / Outage Credits• OC&Cs / Fractional Charges• Prefer CABS format bill - BDT
FACILITY ACCESS PRODUCTS

System • Cell sites don’t have CLLIs • Non-standard Circuit IDs• One-off discounting rules• No ASRs
Support• Rapid Install / Very Dynamic MACD• Sales driven – no 2 contracts alike• Demand and competitive environment require creativity
CABS CHALLENGES
6www.cdg.ws
Planning Meeting with Mobile Customer – Establish rules and set invoice expectations – know system edits
Cell Site Mapping – Example: Hyatt Rooftop, 1379 Main St. = ALOC = come up with a pseudo CLLI-to-site map• Maintain state in CLLI position 5-6• EO CLLI as POP (ZLOC)
Circuit ID Mapping – IC CCTID must conform to system edits• Create IC CCTID to LEC CCTID naming conventions and map
MACD – Establish Product Level Rate IDs that flow through to CABS Journal File
SALES ENGINEERING (BILLING SUPPORT)
7www.cdg.ws
“USOCs” / RAC Codes and Rate IDs• Incorporate mobile customer in IDs• Incorporate size in IDs• Use Cycle Billing and Company Codes to segregate backhaul customers and projects
Success Keys:• Don’t let billing be a barrier – be creative• Interface often with Wholesale Sales and educate• Develop and support ICB – be competitive• Streamline processes – relax rigid ordering requirements where possible
