Makes it quite easy to settle in this city. The best way to enjoy the city is by biking. Oh...how I love the way Copenhagen treats the cyclists – I’m now believe when people say it is one of the most bike friendly city. Biking is the easiest way to go around and of course much more cheaper (until somebody steals your bike – knocking wood 3x). This is one of the things that I’m going to miss most when I leave this city, so I’m enjoying my time now as much as i could. I met some new friends over here so I can do my hobbies like: music, singing and cycling (the last one is kind of new, but I put that in to make my hobby’s list look cool). These have made my stay in Copenhagen even more enjoyable. I could go on but maybe I should stop before this postcard turn into a novel.. best wishes to all of you back home. I will take the time to stop by at the office whenever I’m in Jakarta. Cheers, Asido Tindaon TKI in Copenhagen

Updates of the Months

Dear friends,Hope this notes find you well.

It has been eight months for me since I left Indonesia, I must say, things are going well at my end. It is really a privilege for me to be able to work at the corporate office. At this early stage of my posting in Copenhagen, I can already see that there’s a lot of things I can learn during the my next three years tenure. The Office here is more or less the same as in Jakarta. We have many challenging tasks, tight deadlines, which form a universal office condition: ”busy”.

It’s kind of weird as I’m now writing this note from Serpong...but let me share my Copenhagen experience outside office anyway..

There must be a secret note somewhere in my paper work from my dietician that ends up at the relocation company. They put me in a ‘penthouse’ with no elevator! For those who don’t know me, I’m a type of person you will never see in L-men contest, Ade Rai will probably say ‘thank God I exercise’ when he sees me.... so as sporty as I’m, it was

still a challenge to climb up five floors with two big suitcases on the first day I arrived in Copenhagen.

Living on 5th floor and forgetful is not a good combination. every morning I have to check my office bag like a border patrol officer just to ensure that I have everything I need in the bag. once you leave the room and reached the first floor, there’s no turning back (unless you feel like doing more cardio exercise).

Well, doing groceries is another test of your attention to detail. I think I’ve improved mine over that period just to avoid the cardio workout… but this part has a happy ending, I’m now living 1,4 km away from the office, in an apartment where I don’t have any other options not to climb the stairs.

I found the city of Copenhagen is very charming, quieter city compare to Jakarta. Many of us from the office have been here, so presume they can relate from what i’m saying that this city is pretty and things are well organized. I think that’s what I like most about this city. Makes it quite easy to settle in this city.

The best way to enjoy

the city is by biking. Oh...how I love the way Copenhagen treats the cyclists – I’m now believe when people say it is one of the most bike friendly city. Biking is the easiest way to go around and of course much more cheaper (until somebody steals your bike – knocking wood 3x). to all of you back home. I will take the time to stop by at the office whenever I’m in Jakarta. Cheers,

Winning Story:

Cadbury Reefer Shipment

Our journey to secure Cadbury shipment started in the end of 2010 by arranging meeting between Kraft Indonesia and Damco Malaysia in Port Klang. Cadbury is a leading chocolate and candy product, which manufactured by Kraft Food Company and their shipment previously handled by KN Sigma.

As the effort goes, we still unable to secure their shipment until Q1 2011. But in early march, the door finally opens and thereʼs a slightly hope to grab and secure Cadbury shipment with Damco as logistics provider. The most difficult Challenges we had was to comply with their requirements of 14 days free-time demurrage at Jakarta port due to their internal document issue as well as seeking liner which able to match the timeline as most of them take around 3 days transit time from Port Klang to Jakarta.

After having dealt with several liners, we came to end by having good offer from MCC. They have 11 days transit time from Port Klang to Jakarta with competitive rates. By this agreement, we are confident that we could cover Cadbury requirements and secure their shipment. Finally at the end of March, Damco Jakarta secured Cadbury reefer shipment for April-June 2011 period.

Furthermore, Damco Indonesia managed to win business renewal by winning shipment bidding for July-December 2011 period as we meet their requirements and they are happy with the quality service that we delivered to them. We also have obtained small volume for dry shipment of Cadbury candy from Pasir Gudang, Port Klang and Thailand with volume around 1-2 teus/month whilst reefer biz is our main concern from Cadbury.

Cathay Pacificʼs online system was malfunction on the day I left for Chengdu, at Saturday, 18th of June 2011. I started the day by having to queue for 4 hours, just to get a window seat (my favorite spot). The plane eventually departed at 10.00 AM after 1.5 hour delay. If thereʼs anything I can learn about this particular delay, itʼs the fact that sophisticated system can crash too, and you need to have a good back up plan.

I finally reached the hotel at Chengdu at 1.30 in the morning, on Sunday, after 4 hours delay in transit at Hongkong. What a rough start.

T h e m e e t i n g w i t h JCPenney was set at

07.00 AM on the same day of my arrival, and who w o u l d h a v e thought that we w o u l d fi n i s h a t

midnight. The whole week was spent in a

pattern, we started at 09.00 AM, and we finished

around 10.00 – 11.00 PM (at one point, we finished at 01.00 AM the next day). Itʼs a challenging….but very, very rewarding experience.

I was invited to Chengdu based on clientʼs request, in order to assist NAS region team (Chengdu team) on JCPenney implementation, because the implementation in Indonesia was considered as very successful. For your information, weʼve just won JCP over APLL, who had managed the shipment for over than 7 years.

Itʼs a team effort, and I know JCP team in Indonesia worked very hard to achieve this state … We wouldnʼt have done it without your fantastic efforts! Bravo JCP team!!!

Iʼm blessed with the opportunity to see Chengduʼs team dynamic (first hand), to identify the gap

within the implementation plan, to design a short and long term solution, and share some of best practices with the team. At the same time, Iʼm gaining knowledge on any good practices which can be applied in Indonesia.

Itʼs very heartwarming to see the team keeping up the spirit, even after they were bombarded by hundreds of complaints from those vendors who resisted the change. Iʼve always thought of it as a 10k running competition, they have completed 9.5k …. And they still have 0.5K to go …exhausted, but they still go after the prize. Itʼs amazing to see, and honestly, they won my heart. Chengdu Can Do!! Thatʼs the motto & I believe they can do it.

On the fun side of it, I got the chance to see baby Panda … gosh they are cute!!! And I got several interesting experiences as a non-Chinese speaking foreigner, with a Chinese feature. Every restaurant I went to, they only had menu written in Chinese characters, with price tag next to it, and no pictures. Most of the waiters (even the owner) could not understand English. At one time, I even randomly pointed one menu, and asked if itʼs chicken, beef, fish, vegetables or rabbit … and they still shook their head!

Miscommunication did happen … a lot! I asked the team to assist me to direct the taxi driver to McDonald nearby … The cab took me to a drive through, where I was asked to select the menu in Chinese to a speaker … It would have been easier if I just went to the diner and picked the menu by selecting the picture!

Anyway … itʼs a very interesting experience, which I donʼt mind to repeat. (inta)

Friday morning, July 29. I was occupied and tried to catch up my pending works. At glance I saw at the clock in the corner of my monitor shows at 8:30 when my OC alert is on. It was Meryl gave confirmation that the Evacuation drills will be held promptly at 9 starting from the 15th floor and the alarm will sound at 10. Around 9 o'clock I spoke to security on duty to confirm their readiness. I found out that OB has also been prepared for this plan. Their part was to break the door-lock button. I surprised as in the initial brief did not mention about this and the plan was shared on need to know basis.

I returned to my desk, then I saw pak Jodi entering pak Heriʼs chamber using his FSO orange vest. Few minutes later, my colleague said that the meeting on 11 had been scheduled. I asked her why? She replied softly near whispering “There will be a fire drill, do you know that?” I silently laugh and surprise knowing that the evacuation drill plan has spread.

There were some managers having discussion in my next desk when Mr. heri came by and asked where all the team member gone. They were stunned and did not know what to answer as many desks were empty. My colleague has just realized that only 3 of her team member remained in their station. The rest has been abandoned. I laughed to myself… yes, Iʼm right…the evac plans have been revealed.

The fire alarm went off, for those who unaware of the plan and got occupied with their works were surprised and rushed to the emergency stairs. But some of them still on

their desk and kept their eyes on the monitor. I asked why they didnʼt evacuate, they answered “is this a drill? I have many works to do!” Despite I knew that this was only a drill, I decided not to inform them and asked them to choose between works and safety. at the last minutes, there were still some to choose not to evacuate and prefer to stay at their desks.

As I started to step down the emergency stairs. my feet begun to stiff. Although I had regular workout but stepping down from 26th floor is something. After we reached the lobby, we were directed towards to the assembly point

near the main entrance gate of the building. I saw Meryl already there as she was the FSO.

Ambulances and small fire brigadeʼs car parked at the front of the lobby. Crossed my mind, if the fire were real, will it able to put the fire off? with a small fire car? Because I think a big fire trucks cannot get in since there is the portal at the main gate and furthermore the gate was closed as it was used for assembly points.

Back then at the assembly point, I saw a funny thing. My colleague, whom recognized for his big body and muscle, was trying to stand straight with his knees trembling. It was really funny sight thou…

On July 26, 2011 in Cakung facility we conducted an evacuation drill. This is the second time we had the drill, but this year we invite the fire brigade to participate in the event. Similar to last

year, we made a scenario that there is a fire in the one of CFS area and some staffs got injured. This situation must be followed by action from security to give evacuation announcement. All personnel in warehouse area need to evacuate at once to the appointed assembly point led by evacuation team or respective FSO.

Then the fire brigade called. Less than 10 minutes, they have arrived in the burning area and set for extinguish the fire. They were there to monitor as well as testing all fire equipments available in Cakung warehouse. Any failures are subject to report. An ambulance also called and standby to give first aid for any injured personnel.

The event started at 2 PM and finished around 3 PM. After having a brief from the chief of the security, drill organizer and the FSO, then all staff allowed to go back to their desk and station to continue the work.

Damco Warehouse has an evacuation drill training at least once a year. As the follow up actions, They analyze the drill and take any actions needed for improvements. (Bachtiar)

The Nike/Damco workshop is an annual event that is conducted every year at one of our Asian origins. This is been a returning event for the past 5 years and has greatly benefitted the development of the Nike account. It is foremost an open forum where we get to work together as a team across all origins, come up with creative solution and ideas for how we can take the Nike supply chain to the next level. When we look at the team today there are very few barriers between countries and we really have become one big team on the Nike account which is the backbone of the excellent service and continuous improvements we provide to Nike.Over the years there has also been an increased interest on Nike side and in Jakarta we had a record number of 7 Nike participants from management all over the world. When we talk about the “Nike Team” it is not only Damco anymore, the workshops has also create personal and professional bonds between the two companies.

This year the title was “Write the future” and the focus was re-inventing the supply chain. We are about to start a great journey with Nike to leverage the supply chain to a new level with innovative solutions, LEAN concepts and process optimization under the “e-flow” concept. This we are doing as a team and the workshop was the first steps where origins, KAMʼs and Nike all contributed to the future setup of the account.
