playing areas or the hallways outside. You can smoke in the casino area except where signs say otherwise.

Today’s hostEach day, a different group of units will host

the NABC. The host for today is Area 7 and their representative is Bernadine Lacy. The units in Area 7 are:

Grants Pass Unit 481The Grants Pass Unit is reminiscent of bridge

clubs of the Fifties with a very intimate and small-town tone to its games. The unit has 120 members.

Grants Pass offers three regular games a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In addition to their regular games, they have a Monday morning seminar and an Intermediate-Newcomer game on Tuesday. The Tuesday game has a very active group with a tremendous sense of community pride. Unit 481 also holds an annual sectional in late June.

The slogan for Grants Pass is “It’s The Climate,” and the devoted members of this Unit do everything they can to make it a great climate for bridge!

The Roseburg Bridge Club, also a member of the Grants Pass Unit, has three open games per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tri City Bridge Club, located in Brookings OR, holds games on Monday and Thursday. Klamath Falls Unit 482

The Klamath Falls Unit is the smallest of the Units comprising Area #7 with a membership of 52. They are a unit of enthusiastic, hardworking, dedicated players who can play a mean game of bridge!

Tuesday and Thursday are the days they play bridge. With the Klamath Basin being the hub of an agricultural area known for its horseradish and potatoes, some come hoping that they might be lucky enough to win a bag of Big Al’s potatoes – the best in the West!

The annual sectional in Klamath Falls is in the beautiful month of May.

Jackson County Unit 484Medford and Ashland are the principal

communities comprising the Jackson County Unit and while the county is not that large, its population is diverse. Ashland, lovely Ashland, is the much-heralded location of the Ashland Shakespearean Festival. Its avant garde atmosphere makes it a year-round attraction to tourists from all over the world. Jacksonville provides a taste of Oregon’s gold rush years and Medford – home to the world famous Harry and David Corporation – is the business center for most of Southern Oregon. With a new and increasingly active airport and having the I-5 corridor bisect the center of town it is attracting many new players. This unit has 184 members.

With three very active day games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and one evening game on Monday.

Medford also host a biennial regional, which happens to be May 10-16, 2010 , this year. It is a place well worth visiting. The unit holds a sectional every year in October. In the years they do not host a regional, they have a May sectional.

Bid Box Alerts and Announcements

When using bid boxes, the ACBL requires that players tap the Alert strip and say “Alert” at the same time.

When making an Announcement, use the Announcement word (such as “transfer”) and tap the Alert strip at the same time.

A player who Alerts or Announces a bid must make sure his opponents are aware that an Alert or Announcement has been made.

More on doubles By Lynn Berg

During a wonderful lecture on doubles years ago, I heard this terrific answer to the question, “What should I do when partner doubles?” Allan Cokin said, “Do something intelligent, partner!” His point was that pass might be right, a bid might be right. You have to think about it. How do you know if partner is doubling for penalties? Here are a couple of cases: (1) You’ve already bid, perhaps more than once, and (2) it’s a high level.

One reason for doubling is to take a sure profit when you’re pretty sure your side has bid as high as is prudent. For example, you open 1♥ with♠K 2 ♥A J 8 6 3 ♦K J 8 5 4 ♣6.

The next hand doubles, your partner bids 1♠, and your RHO bids 3♦. Double by you is clearly for penalty. Even if you are playing support doubles, that convention’s cutoff is usually 2♥.

What about this scenario? 1♠ - 2NT - Dbl. What does the double mean? Well, it denies interest in spades and expresses a willingness to double either or both minors (promised by the 2NT bid). This is a situation in which the opening spade bidder should tread carefully. A good question to ask yourself in any competitive auction is, “Have I told my whole story?” If you have, be reluctant to bid again. Let’s say you opened with a typical hand:♠K J 7 6 3 ♥A 6 4 ♦K 8 ♣Q 5 4.

In the competitive auction described, opener should pass, even if the 2NT bidder’s partner bids 3♣. Responder’s double indicated he want to penalize one minor but not both. On the other

hand, if opener started with♠K J 9 8 7 6 ♥A K 8 6 5 ♦5 4 ♣--,it’s time to show the heart suit.

Responding to doubles can also cause problems if the partnership has not discussed agreements. If the opener’s partner passes, responder must bid even with a very bad hand.

1♣ - Dbl – Pass - ?You hold

♠9 7 4 2 ♥8 6 5 3 ♦6 ♣7 4 3 2.You might hate to bid with this

collection, but you must. Bid 1♥. The doubler must remind himself to ask that same question in this competitive situation: “Have I told my whole story?” With fewer than 17 points, the doubler should not bid again, no matter how tempting. Say the doubler’s hand is ♠K J 5 3 ♥A K Q 7 ♣J 8 7 ♣6 5.

Responder’ 1♥ response showed 0-8 high-card points. If the doubler raises without competition from the opponents, it’s a game try. Responder should go to game with 7-8 support points, but do you want to be in game with 14 opposite 7? Of course not.

Say the auction continues with the opener bidding 2♣. You will be tempted to raise partner to 2♥ because of your great support – and there are differing opinions about whether this is sound bidding. Some play that a raise in competition simply shows four-card support. You and your partner should discuss this auction to make sure you are on the same page.

Responding to a double by bidding notrump also takes extra care. Think about it: often your partner is counting shortness in opener’s suit as part of the values that allow the double. When you bid notrump, you are telling your partner you have good values in opener’s suit. It takes high-card points and stoppers to make this bid work: 7-9 for 1NT, 10-12 for 2NT and 13-plus to bid game. These are fairly aggressive values; you

may want to up them by a point or two. It’s also important for the responder to the

double to jump with values so partner will know what is going on. Say partner doubles a 1♣ opener for takeout and you hold♠K 7 ♥A Q 7 6 5 ♦9 3 2 ♣8 7 5.

This nice hand merits a jump to 2♥. With a better hand or the desire to know more of partner’s hand, a cuebid is effective:1♣ - Dbl – Pass – 2♣will get partner’s attention! You might have a fairly good hand with both majors, such as♠K 9 8 7 ♥A J 4 3 ♦K 5 ♣8 7 5.

Game is likely, but which suit? Cuebid and then raise to the three level and you’ve told your whole story. You could also cuebid and then bid game with a better hand.

Opening lead: ♣K.Bidding commentary: South’s jump to 3♠ is

strong. When the bid to the right is weak (2♣), a jump by next hand is strong. When the bid to the right is strong, a jump by next hand is weak.

Defensive commentary: East plays the ♣J at trick one to alert partner of a club sequence

headed by the jack. It may be important for West to know this. West may want to underlead the ♣Q to get East in to lead another suit. One never knows.

Play commentary: With four possible losers in the minors, this contract depends upon the heart finesse. And if the finesse works, it has to be repeated. If South draws trumps and then takes the heart finesse, even though it works, South cannot get back to his hand to repeat the finesse without surrendering the lead. Once on lead, East-West can take three diamonds and a club.

How much easier to take the heart finesse at trick two and then draw trumps, ending in the South hand. Now the heart finesse can be repeated safely.

In order to make entry-conserving plays, you must learn to project the play forward. When you have a repeatable finesse possibility, you should ask yourself: If the finesse works, do I have a convenient way of immediately returning to the facing hand to repeat the finesse? The answer here is to use a spade from dummy to get back to your hand to repeat the finesse. No law states that

you have to draw trumps early when you need your trump suit for communications.

Judy Cotterman and Priscilla Smith direct the Intermediate-Newcomer games. They listen to complaints, help the lost players find their way and generally do it all. If you see them today, go up and say “thanks.”

Wooldridge new Grand LM

Joel Wooldridge has advanced to Grand Life Master, a rank requiring 10,000 masterpoints and a win in an NABC+ event or certain other achievements. Wooldridge has four major wins: the Mixed Board-a-Match Teams and the Open Swiss Teams in 2009, the Fast Open Pairs in 2003 and the Lebhar IMP Pairs in 1997. In the San Diego NABC last fall, he was second in the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs. He was second in the Spingold Knockout Teams in 2005.

Wooldridge won two gold medals in Junior world play and was the King of Bridge.

Tops and bottomsAndrew Start and Franco Baseggio won the

inaugural NABC+ Platinum Pairs by less than half a matchpoint, so they really needed both of the following two boards, one of which was a near top and the other a hard-earned average.

This one is from the first final session: Dlr: West ♠ A Q 6 Vul: None ♥ A Q 9 6 3 ♦ 10 4 ♣ 9 8 2 ♠ 7 5 ♠ 10 4 ♥ K 10 ♥ J 7 2 ♦ A J 8 7 6 3 2 ♦ K Q 9 ♣ Q 5 ♣ A K J 4 3 ♠ K J 9 8 3 2 ♥ 8 5 4 ♦ 5 ♣ 10 7 6 West North East South Stark Baseggio Pass 1♥ 2♣ Pass 2♦ Pass 3♦ 3♥ 3NT All Pass

Stark was certain that the ♥K was on his right, so he eliminated a low heart as a possible opening lead. The opponents obviously had the minors locked up, so the spade lead made sense through the process of elimination. If Stark’s partner had the king, he could put him in for a heart through, or if dummy had the ♠K, Stark might be able to establish a winner for his partner if Baseggio held the jack. He might also be able to tell that it was right to just cash his two aces.

Stark’s reasoning and the lead of the ♠A worked out much better than he could have hoped as he and Baseggio took the first eight tricks for plus 200 and 16 of 17 matchpoints. A low heart lead would obviously have given declarer all 13 tricks.

This one is from the second final session. Dlr: East ♠ J 9 4 Vul: None ♥ 9 ♦ A 7 2 ♣ K J 10 9 4 3 ♠ A K 5 ♠ 10 7 6 ♥ K 4 ♥ A Q J 8 7 5 2 ♦ J 10 9 8 6 ♦ K 4 ♣ Q 8 6 ♣ A ♠ Q 8 3 2 ♥ 10 6 3 ♦ Q 5 3 ♣ 7 5 2 West North East South Baseggio Stark 1♥ Pass 2NT Pass 4♥ All Pass

Baseggio’s 2NT was natural and game forcing.South started with the ♠3, taken in dummy

with the ace. On any other lead, making six would have hinged on guessing the diamond suit, but the spade lead cost an entry Stark would need later. That meant the best he could do was 11 tricks, and he preferred to let the opponents play the diamond suit, preferably from the South hand, rather than guessing.

After winning the spade lead in dummy, Stark ran six rounds of trumps. South discarding three clubs, North four clubs and a diamond, dummy a club, a spade and two diamonds.

He then cashed the ♣A, on which South discarded the ♠2, played a spade to the king and called for the ♣Q, ruffing when North covered.

South pitched a diamond on that trick, and was then thrown in with the ♠Q at trick 11. North and South were down to two diamonds each, so Stark had to make his king to score plus 450 for an average result, the best he could do under the circumstances.

A below-average board would have hurt a lot because of what happened on the second board of the first final, played against Joel Wooldridge and John Hurd.

The game was played in a Howell movement, so Stark and Baseggio were East-West when board 2 came along. Dlr: East ♠ 9 7 3 Vul: N-S ♥ 10 8 4 3 2 ♦ A 8 6 4 ♣ Q ♠ J 10 5 4 2 ♠ 6 ♥ A K 7 5 ♥ J 6 ♦ 9 ♦ K Q J 10 7 3 ♣ J 9 4 ♣ 8 5 3 2 ♠ A K Q 8 ♥ Q 9 ♦ 5 2 ♣ A K 10 7 6 West North East South Baseggio Wooldridge Stark Hurd 3♦ Dbl Pass 3♥ Pass 3♠ Pass 4♠ Pass Pass Dbl All Pass

Baseggio cashed the ♥A and ♥K, switching to the ♦9 at trick two. Hurd read the cards accurately and found the winning line of play. He won the ♦A, played a spade to the ace, a club to the queen, followed by the ♥10 for a diamond pitch and the ♥8 for a club pitch. He then returned to hand with a spade to the king and cashed the ♣A and ♣K as Baseggio followed helplessly.

In the three-card ending, Hurd held the ♠Q 8 and the ♣10, Baseggio the ♠J 10 5 and dummy the ♠9, ♥4 and ♦8. When Hurd led the club from his hand, Baseggio’s second trump trick when up in smoke. He could ruff high and be endplayed or ruff low and be overruffed in dummy. Either way, the result was minus 790 and a complete zero.

(1) Alerted and explained as a natural and invitational. There was a break in tempo.

Facts: The contract was 3♣ by North down three for a score of North-South minus 300 after the opening lead of the ♠A. The director was called after the play of the deal was completed.

South’s convention card showed “3♣/1♦ invitational.” North’s did not. Both convention cards had “weak jump shifts not in competition” checked. All four players agreed there was a BIT

before the 3♣ bid. North stated that his BIT was because he was trying to remember their agreement for 3♣, and whether a weak 3♣ was reasonable at this vulnerability.

Director’s Ruling: It was determined that North-South had no agreement based on the evidence and so Law 21B1(b) applied. In accordance with Laws 21B3 and 12C1(e), an adjusted score was awarded to both sides: 3NT by West making four, and a score of East-West plus 630.

The Appeal: North-South appealed the director’s decision. All four players attended the hearing.

South stated that he misinformed East-West of the meaning of the 3♣ bid. North stated when the bidding was over that he had made a mistake in the bidding --- i.e. that the 3♣ bid (which he meant as preemptive) was not part of the North-South agreement. South had his card marked “3♣/1♦ inv.”, but North did not. North said he couldn’t remember their agreement. North subsequently changed his convention card to agree with South’s. North-South felt that, if they were ruled against for misinformation to East-West, a different score should be assigned other than 3NT making four. North-South felt that East-West could have reasonably arrived at 4♠, a much inferior contract.

East-West said that if the 3♣ had been Alerted, and explained properly, East would have doubled. West felt that with 4–3–3–3 distribution, and the

A–Q of clubs, that he would have bid 3NT.The Decision: The committee felt that the

screening director had fully and properly explained the Law to the players. The committee felt that the reason for the appeal was without merit. The committee considered a result of 3♣ doubled by North down three (and a score of North-South minus 800). In screening, however, it never occurred to West to pass 3♣ doubled, so that result was not considered to be at all probable.

The committee found that the contract of 3NT by East-West was “at all likely” per Law 12c1eii.

Therefore, the committee’s adjustment was the same as the director’s.

As the law in this situation was fully explained to the appellants, an appeal without merit warning (AWMW) was issued to both North and South.

Committee members: Ed Lazarus (chair), Abby Heitner, Eugene Kales, Ellen Kent and Jim Thurtell.

Finesse? What finesse?Playing in the first qualifying session of the

Mixed Pairs, Cookie Hoberman of Omaha NE, playing with Mike Edwards of Rock Island IL, read the cards nicely on this deal: Dlr: West ♠ A Q 9 7 Vul: E--W ♥ Q 9 3 ♦ 10 8 6 4 ♣ J 9 ♠ 10 6 ♠ K 5 ♥ 6 5 4 2 ♥ J 10 8 ♦ K J 9 2 ♦ 7 3 ♣ 7 4 2 ♣ A Q 8 6 5 3 ♠ J 8 4 3 2 ♥ A K 7 ♦ A Q 5 ♣ K 10 West North East South 1♠ Pass 2♠ 3♣ 3♠ Pass 4♠ All Pass

West led the 4♣ to East’s ace. He shifted to the ♦7, Hoberman put in the queen, which lost to the king. West led another club, taken by declarer’s king.

Most players would take the spade finesse, and that leads to down one. Instead, Haberman led the ♠2 to the ace, played three rounds of hearts, cashed the ♦A, and then exited with a spade.

East won the ♠K, but had only clubs left so had to concede a ruff and a sluff. Making 4♠ was worth 20 on a 25 top.

Alexander

Caravelli, one of the top players in the Midwest. Marc Low, a graduate student who would later become another top player in the area, was a mentor of sorts to Alexander and Caravelli. “He would play with one of us as long as the other played with his wife,” Alexander recalls.

Alexander modestly allows that he was a pretty good player in those days. The team of Caravelli, Alexander, Ewen and Woolsey, he says, “won every board-a-match team game in the area for two years.”

After moving to Cleveland for the Western Reserve Job in 1965, Alexander became interested in directing because some of the bridge clubs where he played needed help. He eventually met John Hamilton, one of ACBL’s top tournament directors, who became his mentor in that area of bridge.

When Western Reserve University merged with Case Institute of Technology in 1967, Alexander left the college world for the interesting realm of tournament directing.

He began working a lot for the ACBL, attending his first NABC as a director in Atlanta in 1971. He has not missed an NABC since. The 2010 Spring NABC in Reno is Alexander’s 118th straight.

Although he is working part-time now, Alexander still enjoys the job immensely. Over the past 20 years, team games have become his specialty. He is the uncontested expert in setting up movements for large team events, and he is the inventor of the chart that is posted behind the directors’ table at most Swiss teams. Each chart has the names of the captains and victory point scores each round.

Alexander says the device – called the “Jeffery chart” by many of his peers – was created as a way of letting players see their scores each round so that scoring errors can be detected more easily.

Now a resident of Mentor OH, a Cleveland suburb, Alexander and his wife, Stephanie, play bridge semi-regularly – they attend the Hunt Valley (MD) Regional every year – and work together as TDs at local sectionals.

Alexander still has a keen interest in all sports, especially the NBA. He has high hopes this year for the Cleveland Cavaliers – “and I hope we can keep Lebron James.” He also plays golf regularly, “and when I’m lucky I can break 100.”

youngsters came to last year’s event that was contested in Washington DC.

Last year’s Baron Barclay National Youth Open Pairs winners were: Jessie Stern of Lutz FL and Jourdain Patchett of Sarasota FL. Each winner took home a $1000 scholarship.

The Youth Swiss Teams defending champions are Adam Grossack of Newton MA, Sean Gannon of Atlanta, Andrew Dubay of Vooheesville NY, Adam Kaplan of New Port Richey FL and Stern and Patchett. These winners divided a $4000 scholarship.

For more information, visit the youth bridge web site at www.youth4bridge.com. The complete schedule and sign-up information is there. Also, youth can enter the mystery hand sweepstakes. The winner will receive a Samsung Netbook. See the web site for complete details.

The InsiderThe Insider sat down to watch a presentation of

the Spinner yesterday. The Spinner is a contraption that sits on the table, spits out cards, tallies the scores and can even keep track of the play – as long as the

cards aren’t shuffled when they are stuck back in the machine. And, it can provide all of this across the room, across the whole playing site, across town, across the country or across the entire world. It is a pretty neat little machine. Look for brochures down by the Regional Flyer table to see what the future of bridge may be – the near future as it won’t be long before Bridge4People goes into production on these units. Spinners, electronic scoring, online bridge, duplicating machines – this ain’t your father’s bridge game.

Even with all these innovations, it is the tournament directors who get the game started, keep it moving, adjudicate disputes when necessary and make sure the correct scores are recorded when it is all over. The ACBL has many of the best directors in the world. From estimating how many players are going to show up, predicting which events they’ll play in, getting the game started on time, keeping the play moving and tallying results, nobody does it better. At the Spring NABCs, we have Chris and John in charge of it all, Patty keeping the whole operation under control, Michael selling Bridge Bucks, Jackie and Pam herding caddies, Martin, Brian, David and Ken setting up tables (and taking them down and setting them up again) and about 50 other directors running the events. All of them work hard for long hours day after day and still they maintain their sense of humor. Some of the best jokes, worst puns and wittiest observations come from the directors. They really are a lot of fun to work with. The Insider considers it a privilege to be able to work with them three times a year. Please join the Insider in thanking each one of these dedicated professionals.

While the Insider’s attention has been divided between the NABC and the key quest this week, there have been other developments on the New Amazing Building front, or rather the front of the New Amazing Building. The parking lot pavers were resealing the lot yesterday. Late in the day it was determined they were using plans printed using a very old ACBL dot matrix printer. ACBL now has a white parking lot with black stripes. At the same time, the landscapers were using an outdated set of plans. (The plans had to be revised half way through construction when the S.C. determined the sun sets in the west and would be in his eyes when he tried to take his afternoon meditation break.) So, all the lovely welcome-to-our-New-Amazing-Building landscaping features are centered on the dumpster out back and the gravel intended to be placed around the dumpster, loading area and generator are piled in front of the main entrance. But, we can all rest assured knowing the sun will never interrupt the S.C.’s meditation break. Now, even if our perky new employee does find the keys, she won’t be able to get to the door to unlock it until 371 tons of river rock is moved out of the way.

A couple of other high seeds had scares, as the team captained by Carolyn Lynch, seeded No. 4, had to come from behind in the fourth quarter to eliminate the Japanese squad led by Kai Hiraki. Trailing 53-38, Lynch prevailed 117-68 with a 79-15 fourth quarter.

No. 8 Lou Ann O’Rourke led No. 57, an Indian team calling themselves the Texan Aces, by only 3 IMPs heading into the fourth quarter before pulling away for a 125-88 win.

No. 1 Nick Nickell won handily over No. 64, a team from Singapore captained by Kelvin Ng.

Electronic Device PolicyThe electronic

device policy is revised as follows:

1. For all NABC+ rated events at NABCs: Electronic devices, including but not limited to, phones, cameras, PDAs, and others capable of sending or receiving electronic communication are excluded from the playing areas during any session of play. This does not apply to health-related equipment.

2. For all events at an NABC other than a NABC+ rated event: Except for health-related equipment, or by permission of the Director-in-Charge of the tournament, cell phones, audible pagers or similar equipment may not be operated or operable in any manner in the playing area during a session of play. Any such equipment must not be visible during the session. Sponsoring organizations of other ACBL-sanctioned events are encouraged to adopt a similar policy.

3. These restrictions in numbers 1 and 2 above apply to all pairs, team members, captains, coaches, play recorders (except those designated by ACBL) and kibitzers and are in force throughout any actual playing session or segment of play.

4. A violation of any of the restrictions in numbers 1 and 2 above will result in a disciplinary penalty of one full board (12 IMPs at that form of scoring) for the first offense. A second offense will result in disqualification from the event for the pair/team. Kibitzers violating this policy will be removed from the playing area for the remainder of the session.

Convention card reminderEach player is required to have a convention

card filled out legibly and on the table throughout a session. Both cards of a partnership must be identical and include the first and last names of each member of the partnership.

If a director determines that neither player has a substantially completed card, the partnership may play only the Standard American Yellow Card and may use only standard carding. This restriction may be lifted only at the beginning of a subsequent round after convention cards have been properly prepared and approved by the director. Further, the partnership will receive a 1/6-board matchpoint penalty for each board played, commencing with the next round and continuing until the restriction is lifted. In IMP team games, penalties shall be at the discretion of the director.

If the director determines the partnership has at least one substantially completed convention card but has not fully complied with ACBL regulations, the director may give warnings or assign such penalties as he deems to be appropriate under the circumstances.

The objective of these warnings and penalties is the encouragement of full compliance with ACBL regulations.

MonitoringAt this and future North American

Championships, ACBL will be monitoring NABC+ events with visible, real-time cameras. The images will be recorded and will be available for later official inspection and review.

By general monitoring of the session and participants’ behavior, ACBL has another source of information that may be useful in determining facts and settling issues arising from some types of ethical and behavioral complaints or actions. Please summon a director if a problem occurs at the table.

This procedure is intended to assure everyone that the playing field is level and that misbehavior will not be tolerated.

Today’s Bridge Events

Wednesday’s sponsorsJon Coffee --- Everyone’s favorite partnerJon Coffee was fond of saying he had come to

town on a load of turnips. He relished the country bumpkin image, but when opponents underestimated him the first time, it was usually the last. Bridge lost one of the good ones when Jon passed away last November at age 73, after a long battle with cancer. He left behind his wife, Judy Pelham, five children, three stepchildren, 14 grandchildren and countless bridge players who considered him to be their favorite partner or their favorite nemesis. Jon was an active player in Austin, Detroit and Scottsdale. He played bridge regularly in Scottsdale almost until the

very end. Jon spent most of his adult life in Texas

practicing law. He was long considered by his peers, clients and the judiciary as one of the premier attorneys in America. He was among the first lawyers in the State of Texas to become a certified specialist in family law, was listed in Best Lawyers in America and had a Texas-sized personality and stature that dominated courtrooms throughout Central Texas for years. Jon received a law degree in 1960 from the University of Texas.

Jon was a Gold Life Master and a fearless player who was not afraid to take a flyer now and then. When he did something a little too courageous, his

partners were fond of saying, “What can you expect from someone who loves to go to the casino as much as Jon does?” He made bridge a pleasure for his partners and opponents alike, and, although fiercely competitive, he never lost sight of the fact that people mattered more than masterpoints.

He was an incredible human being and an astute judge of character. His advice, when asked, on all manner of things was always letter perfect. He was wise, compassionate and a loyal friend. He is missed by the bridge players who are sponsoring this memorial event in his name and by many others.

The Yuba City Bridge Club is also proud to be a sponsor today.
