The Origins of Vince Noir T h e h i s t o r y behind Vince is as s a d a s i t i s mysterious. He was found on the s t r e e t s o f s u b u r b a n L o s Angeles. He was alone, skinny, and bug bitten. His now luscious hair was covered in matts. It is not known if he was abandoned by a family, or worse, but he was fearful towards humans and dogs alike. Sadly, California was

stuck in the "Great Recession", which m e a n t a n i m a l s shelters were overflowing. He was brought to the attention of Big & Small Animal Rescue in Vancouver, Canada. They specialize in bringing dogs from high-kill shelters up to British Columbia, where there is a demand for rescued animals.

It took us a long time to come up with a name for him. No one knew what his name was and his foster parent didn't stick with a name. His style a n d p e r s o n a l i t y f i t perfectly with a favourite British comedy character: Vince Noir from The Mighty Boosh.

Rescued animals require a lot of patience. In Vince's case, due to his rough past, he was extremely anxious and agitated when around other dogs. With the help of o u r n e i g h b o u r , a d o g behavior expert, he began to adjust to his new life. With the help of his laid back new best friend Giorgio, he is starting to enjoy being with other dogs.

Giorgio's Guide to Vancouver

Dog Parks V i n c e N o i r a n d Giorgio are huge p r o m o t e r s o f V a n c o u v e r d o g parks. Important features of a good dog park include being far from traffic, having room to run, and preferably near a body of water. Our favourite has been Trout Lake, located in the bottom right corner of the map below. It offers plenty of room to run as well as a lake to swim in. There are many dog parks along the waterfront as well.

Honorable mentions include Spanish Banks along Marine Drive in West Point Grey, and Hadden Park, by English Bay on the northern tip of Kitsilano. Both offer a large beach by the sea to run around on. Also by the waterfront is Charleston Park, across False Creek from Yaletown, which offers 2 ponds, a stream, a waterfall, and a hilly forest, all in a dense inner city neighbourhood. Living in one of the densest cities in North America, it can be a challenge finding room to run around. Luckily, Vancouver is also very dog-friendly. It is important to get out there and run. A tired dog is a happy dog.

Highlights including helping put up solar panels to power a cabin, exploring a lush virgin temperate rainforest, and helping family with their art projects (he just can't escape his film work).
