Process: Shielded Metal Arc Welding

Material: API 5L (Grade B & X42)

Pipe Oustside Diameter Less than 2.375 inch O.D.And Wall Thickness: Less than .154 inch wall thickness.

Joint Design: See "V" Bevel Joint Design for less than 2.375 in. O.D.

Filler Metal: AWS - E 6010

Number of Beads: See "V" Bevel Joint Design for less than 2.375 in. O.D.

Electric Characteristics: Direct Current, Reverse Polarity (Electrode Positive)

Position: Fixed on a Horizontal Plane

Direction of Welding: Vertical Down

Number of Welders: One

Time Lapse between Passes: A maximum of five minutes between root pass and hot pass.

Type & removal ofLineup Clamp: An external line up clamp may be used while tacking. The root-bead segments used in connection with external clamps should be uniformly spaced around the circumference of the pipe and shall have an aggregate length of 50% of the pipe circumference before the clamp is removed.

Cleaning/Grinding: All Scale, slag, or other foreign material shall be renewed after each pass by power or manual chipping, grinding, and wire brushing.

Preheat: If the base metal temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit it shall be preheated to 70 degrees Fahrenheit and this minimum temperature shall be maintained during the welding process.

Speed of Travel: 1 inch to 3 inches per minute
