Croydon’s Christmas will launch with a weekend’s worth of celebration stacked full of festive fun, entertainment, theatre and enjoyment for all the family.

Create magical memories and picture perfect moments as our Christmas lights twinkle across the town centre. A traditional pepper-pot style Helter Skelter will

take centre stage, bringing all the fun of the fair to the heart of Croydon. What’s more, all proceeds raised will support the homeless in Croydon.

Offering an array of attractions for all ages, North End will be filled with professional, live theatre, music and dance, along with street performers,

bringing a festive spring to your step, and who knows, a jingle to your dance. Croydon’s Christmas Celebration is completely FREE, so have yourself a merry

little Christmas time. Supported by Centrale & Whitgift Shopping Centres, come and meet our favourite Minions, Bob and Kevin, for a special selfie, or visit the

Fairy-tale Grotto to see Santa and his elves.

In Croydon, we are spoilt for choice, with a number of new and innovative gyms right on our doorstep.

Need a gym that’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Try Gym East, which is part of the larger Gym Group. With no contract to tie you down, located a few minutes’ walk from East Croydon station and at under £20 a month, it’s a great place to ‘find your fit’. There’s also Anytime Fitness, which opens at 5am Monday to Friday, and 7am at weekends, so if you’re an early bird, this might suit you too.

More interested in a variety of classes?

Energie Fitness, Pure Gym and Nuffield Health all boast a wide array of classes, from the better known Les Mills’ style classes, to newer ones, like Clubbercise, where the lights go low and you can dance around with glowsticks like it’s the 90s.

Like a pool with your gym?

Both Solutions and Nuffield Health have swim-ming pools. Nuffield Health also has a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, and a relaxation room, for when you just want to chill out, instead of pump iron.

It’s also a great way to meet new people and, on Mondays, they hold an open night, ensuring no one is ever left out.

With an abundance of authentic, retro games machines, such as Tekken 3 and In the Groove dance machines, it’s only £10 to play as many games you like for as long as you like. On Sundays, from about 2pm, the weekly Super Smash Brothers tournament is hugely popular, with people travelling from afar to come and play in the comfortable set up, complete with beanbags.

Or do you feel like getting a world away? Here in Croydon, the centre of the universe, we have London’s premier Virtual Reality (VR) and gaming bar. The prices begin at £27.99 for 60 minutes, but you can take turns and share costs with a friend or two.

What’s more, Limitless VR offers a 10% discount to Check Out Croydon cardholders.

Croydon’s own arthouse cinema aims for inclusivity and a programme of interesting, diverse films. It regularly shows films with subtitles, for the hard of hearing, as well as dementia friendly screenings, and films specifically shown for babes in arms. The tickets are purposefully kept at low prices, with further concessions for persons aged 60 and over, full time students, claimants and people with disabilities, and people under 25.

If making money whilst having fun, being entertained and enjoying reasonably priced food and drink sounds good, why not try bingo? Bingo has had a bit of a rebirth in recent years, and it’s started to attract a wider audience. Anyone over 18 is welcome and you can simply turn up on the night to get in.
