Set Up The trial was set up as a large plot trial consisting of three 1-acre plots within the vineyard. One Ad-Con soil moisture probe was installed in each plot. Moisture data was collected for treatments of WaterMaxx®2 alone, WaterMaxx2 + Spersal, and an untreated check. The vineyard is a heavy clay loam soil, deficit irrigated with canal water with a high salt content and high pH. Application WaterMaxx2 was initially applied via sprayer on March 4, 2013, at 2 quarts per acre. Subsequent applications of WaterMaxx2 at 1 quart per acre were made on April 22 and June 12 through the drip system. Drip lines for the untreated control plot were turned off during these applications. Results Once the soil problems caused by ultra pure water were alleviated with the gypsum/SperSal combination, the areas treated with WaterMaxx2 responded immediately. The treated areas exhibited better water movement off the surface and improved moisture content at all depths as the season progressed. Improved shoot growth was also visually noted in the treated area when compared to the untreated.
