Next Steps1. Continued Progress of Meaningful Use

2014 program year has been very difficult• Nationwide software update required by regulations• More difficult Stage 2 objectives• This has led to dangerously low participation in 2014, and 2015 is not shaping up

much better

2. Interoperability Intent of incentives were to stimulate adoption, but real challenge is

interoperability and “meaningful exchange” of data

3. Standardization Multiple versions of standards exist and implementations are different

across care settings

4. Workforce and workflows Dissatisfaction with EHR usability is growing

5. Care Coordination “Culture of coordination” has not yet emerged, even where technology

tools have matured
