13 February 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ATTENTION NEWS EDITOR THE COMMUNICATIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF NAMIBIA AWARDS ORANJEMUND COMMUNITY RADIO STATION WITH A LICENCE. The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) officially handed over the operating licence to Oranjemund Community Radio (OFM) on the 8 th of February 2013. The prestigious event took place at the Recreational Centre in Oranjemund. OFM, fully sponsored by NAMDEB, will be providing the Oranjemund Community with topical, thought-provoking local news and activities. “The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) believes that radio is an essential communication tool in many homes in Namibia. To date we have roughly 13 radio stations and still counting. And even with this development, only 72% of Namibians had coverage and access to radio in 2011. This even dropped from 72.6% in 2007. Community radio stations, such as OFM, will go a long way to improve these statistics”, said Stanley Shanapinda, Chief Executive Officer of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia. OFM is run by Naftal Negongo jnr. together with a group of volunteers. The radio station aims to build and improve relationships, advance effective communication, promote and celebrate diverse cultural, social, interfaith and religious practices in the Oranjemund community and advance the cause of development, peace, rights of children, youth, women and the physically challenged. OFM is located in the NAMDEB radio workshop on 8 th avenue, Oranjemund.
