    Job Title: Cover Supervisor

    Grade: Scale 5 point 25 [NJC pay scale]

    Hours: School hours

    Responsible to: Office Manager

    Main purpose of job: To supervise whole classes during the absence of teachers.Cover supervisors will give instructions for the lesson asprovided by a teacher and the primary focus of the role will be tomaintain good order and keep students on task. CoverSupervisors will respond to general questions and providegeneral feedback to teachers but will not be required toundertake specified work (planning, preparation, delivery,

    assessment, recording and reporting of achievement, progressand development). Cover Supervisors will not therefore besubject to a system of supervision other than the generalsupervision applicable to all staff and will act under theprofessional direction of teachers.When not covering classes the Cover Supervisor will be usedfor administrative support under the direction of the OfficeManager.

    Main Tasks: Support for studentso Supervise students engaged in learning activities.o Act as a role model and set high expectations of conduct and

    behaviour.o Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within

    the classroom.o Keep students on task and respond to general queries.

    Support for teacherso Provide objective and accurate feedback to the teacher of

    the conduct of the lesson.o

    Keep appropriate records as agreed with the teacher.o Promote positive values, attitudes and good students

    behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in linewith established policy and encourage students to takeresponsibility for their own behaviour.

    Support for the curriculumo Support the use of ICT where appropriateo Make appropriate use of equipment and resources

    o Be aware of, and comply with, policies and proceduresrelating to child protection, equal opportunities, health, safety

    and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting allconcerns to John Edwards.

    Person Specification: Experienceo Successful recent working experience with children of

    relevant age.

    Qualificationso Good literacy and numeracy skillso Good general standard of education.o Induction training for Teaching Assistants

    Knowledge and skillso Basic knowledge of first aid.o Understanding of relevant policies/codes of

    practice/legislationo Working knowledge of ICT to support learning.o Ability to apply behaviour management policies and

    strategies, which contribute to a purposeful learningenvironment.
