TransFuse 2014: Transformative-Fusion of Innovative Patient Blood Management
Course DescriptionTransFuse 2014 is a 3 day multidisciplinary conference devoted to exploring the current state-of-the art techniques and program development to implement a blood management program in hospitals. This is a one of a kind summit designed by leaders in blood management from Mayo Clinic and Hartford Hospital.
Course Learning ObjectivesUpon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Optimize blood transfusions in the hospitalized patient through appropriate use of guidelines and algorithms.
• Demonstrate surgical haemostatic techniques with unique hands-on approach on animal models.
• Describe the adverse consequences of allogeneic transfusions and their effect on patient outcomes.
• Explain the most recent evidence-based use of blood component therapy in hospitalized perioperative patients.
• Discuss the most appropriate techniques for managing anemia in perioperative setting without blood transfusions.
• Apply the concept of comprehensive blood management programs for reducing the use of blood products in hospital practice

Intended AudienceThis educational activity is designed for medical specialists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, medical directors, perfusionists, hospitalists, hematologists, pediatricians, transfusion medicine specialists, medical and surgical residents, quality manager, nurses, and blood management directors and coordinators.
Credit Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Mayo Clinic College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM for lab participants) Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of
their participation in the activity.

Hands-On Animal LabSurgeons (and other attendees) can test and compare the latest in topical and energy based hemostatic agents and procedures at the Mayo Clinic Center for Procedural Innovation.
Wet Lab - TEST YOUR BLOODWe’ll have a wet lab onsite where you can have your own homeostatic assay run on a number of current and new devices.
Patient Blood Management CertificationAfter completion of the course and successful completion of the assessment, you will receive certification as a Patient Blood Management specialist.
