Karaoke Returns to Fatima Council Friday, 4/29

If you have been by the Council in the past few months, you have noticed that the old, wood vertical siding on our building has been replaced with concrete horizontal siding. We have had a few quotes to paint this new siding in the $3500—$4000 range. It’s Slating Time Again For Council Officers...

Our generous transfer from Jersey, Danny Gallos, along with PGK Bill Karandos have agreed to re-start the Karaoke/Sing-a-Long tradition at Fatima Council. For over two dec-ades in the 90’s and 00’s, the last Friday of the month was reserved for the Sing-A-Long,

Our Good Samaritan: by PGK Bill Karandos

Sad to say, we lost two Good Samaritans this past month. PFN Jim Kohout passed away 3/17 and Bro. M “Bud” Galbo passed away on 3/18. Jim wore many hats as a knight. He served as Faithful Navigator for the Bishop Chatard Assembly, handled accounts for the Council and FHA, and, along with his wife Mary, prepared this newsletter for mailing to our members.

Bud Galbo was fireman for 33 years. He was a captain when he retired. Bud got Scotty Grant to do the Sing-A-Long for over 20 years on the last Friday night each month. Bud loved to play poker and was a regular golf player. He and his wife Mary attended our movies and helped out when needed. It is without saying the passing of these two great men leave heavy hearts at Fatima Council

Financial Secretary News: The St Patrick's Party was one of the best of all times. A fun crowd enjoyed the singing and antics of Eunan McIntyre from Ireland. The food...corn beef and cabbage, Irish stew, fish sticks, hotdogs, clam chowder and all the fixings...and drink was superb. No one left hungry. Past Financial Secretary Julian Wagner won the top raffle prize of $500 and his daughter-in-law, Madonna Wagner, took 3rd place with $50 and Brenda Johnson won second with $150. Go n-eiri a t-adh leat ("Good Luck") A big thanks to the brave souls that raised $750 for the Special Olym-pics by participating in the Polar Bear Plunge. BRRRR! Congratulations to our newest Honorary Life member Dr. James Lindeman. Please remember in your prayers Honorary Life Member Marion "Bud" Galbo and PFN Sir James Kohout. Sir James served as our Council Treasurer for 15 years.

Grand Knights Report by GK Jeff Emminger:

Brother Knights, wives, and friends of the council, this past month was another good month with many successful activities including: - Raised $750 at the Council Polar Plunge held on 2/28 in Napoleon, - Weekly Tuesday morning bingos. Thanks all who run this each week. - First Sunday breakfast. Remember that we can always use some new people to help out with this event. Just show up and let one of us work-ing know that you would like to help. Also, if you haven’t been in to eat with us at this breakfast event in a while, please stop by. - Finishing up this month with the second semester of weekly sessions of That Man is You! program (http://www.paradisusdei.org/). This has been a good opportunity to get some non-members into the hall to let them see what we are all about. Hopefully, this will lead to some new brother knights. - Afternoon movies: Thanks PGK Bill Karandos for putting on this twice-

monthly event. - St. Patrick’s Day party with music by Eunan McIntyre from Ireland and Irish themed food. Thanks PGK Jim Tobin for chairing this great council event and for bringing in so many volunteers. As the Grand Knight, I very much appreciate that Jim pulls this event together each year. - Held two scheduled Friday evening fish fry’s and a smaller fish fry and viewing of the movie The Passion of Christ on Good Friday. Thanks PGK Ken Taylor and the rest of the food crew. Thanks also everyone that came to these events. - Provided a late night breakfast after the Easter Vigil mass at Holy Spirit that served 120 people. - This past month’s Dinner with the Knight’s on March 28th with a con-cession stand food theme. As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, a representative from the state gaming commission observed and confiscated a pool sheet for the championship football game. We recently received the anticipated letter from the gaming commission listing the names of those who purchased spots on the board with instructions to refund money to the purchasers. Any money that isn’t returned is to be deposited into our charitable ac-count. Council Treasurer Rick Pohlman and Financial Secretary Walt Linne are the people that will be doing the refunds. Thanks Rick for working with the gaming commission on this. Our exterior painting project is scheduled to start at 8 am on Saturday April 23rd (south and east sides of building) and Sunday April 24th (rest of building. Caulking will be completed prior to this weekend. So, our focus will be on painting the siding itself. I’m still working to assemble a team of individuals to help with this project. I have a few names now. But need more. If you are interested, please give me a call (317-407-

2465). It was with great sadness this month when I heard of the deaths of PFN Jim Kohout and brother Bud Galbo. As many of you know, Jim was our long-time council and home association treasurer. Even with his declining health, he was active as home association treasurer and as a mentor to our new-this-year council treasurer Rick Pohlman. As Grand Knight, I so very much appreciated Jim’s dedication to the Knights of Columbus in general and his attention to detail and well-reasoned feedback to the council officers in particular. Brother Bud Galbo has been a great supporter of the council with fre-quent attendance at council events which I noticed myself more this fraternal year. Bud’s cheerful demeanor was something that I looked

forward to each time that I saw him.

Look elsewhere in the newsletter for information on the return of Kara-oke this month. Additionally we are looking into possibly doing a Corn Hole tournament this summer. I’m grateful for those willing to take on new activities. We’re still looking for someone interested in taking on Euchre. PGK Charlie Miller has told me that he’d be willing to provide tips to whomever would like to take this on. – If you know of a practical Catholic man that would make a good knight, please contact either myself or our membership chairman, Dave Thomas [email protected], 317-519-7445 Fraternally, GK Jeff Emminger 317-407-2465

Ladies Auxiliary: At our last meeting, we discussed the rummage sale and finalized those items. We gave the Council $100 for shirts for Gibault for the 50th anniversary spaghetti lunch. We also donated four $100 gift cards

to 4 parishes to give to a family for Easter. It was also mentioned to think of people for the slate of new officers for next year. Our election is in June. We also making up plastic shoe boxes for the children at Gibault with useful items. They each get a box when they first come there, so they will feel they have something of their own. If you were not at the last meeting, contact one of the officers and they can tell you what is needed. Don't forget to bring your items for the rummage sale on Friday, April 22nd after 10 a.m. If you are able to help set up, be at the Council by 10:00 on Friday. Also, if you can work on Saturday, we will be there

around 6:30 a.m. The sale is from 8-2 on Saturday Our next meeting will be Wednesday April 13th at 7:00 pm at the Council. All are welcome to come if you are 18 and a Catholic or non-Catholic and married to a Knight. If you

Relevant Revelations ...by PGK Eric Struewing

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. You gave them to me and they kept your word. They accepted and truly understood that I came from you. I pray for them. I have not lost any of those you have given me.” No one will take your joy away from you. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you to all truth. I have told you this so that you may not fall away.” As we celebrate this Easter season, I keep thinking of the revealed truth. “Jesus, ever on my lips”

Please contact Larry Lathrop to sign up. Gibault News by Envoy Walt Linne:

On March 23rd of this year Our Lady of Fatima Council 3228 hosted their 50th spaghetti luncheon for Gibault School. The 50th anniversary spa-ghetti luncheon was a sell out reaffirming that we serve the best spaghetti in the state of Indiana (except for Billy's grandpa's spaghetti). Our hon-ored guest were the staff and students of Gibault School which were wearing their 50th anniversary remembrance t-shirts.. The school in turn presented to our Council a 50th T-shirt in a nicely framed picture holder which can be seen in the foyer. Special guest were Worthy State Treasurer Paul Zielinski and District 18 Deputy and PGK Mike Hill. A special thanks to Council Chef Ken Taylor, perennial helper Jim Louzon, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Silvertones and all the many volunteers that helped host this wonderful event. And, a big thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary and
