• Addressed the common challenge of the 31 States that had to implement the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS)
• 24 out of these 31 States decided to make use of the ATM information and data processing capabilities available in EUROCONTROL, exploiting synergies and economies of scale
• 3 States provide(d) additional complementary and required data for traffic which was not yet covered, exploiting even further synergies and economies of scale
• EUROCONTROL’s ETS Support Facility is a “marginal cost”, “economy of scale” solution• Implemented in 2009-2010 as a spin-off of other EUROCONTROL pan-European functions (collection/distribution of
route charges; network management)• Operational since 2010• Contracted to continue till end 2021, preparing for its extension
