La città di Urbino

Protetta dalle sue mura, l’antica città di Urbino si erge alta su un promontorio situato tra la valle del Metauro e la valle del Foglia, circondata da verdi colline che ancora oggi ricordano le strutture paesaggistiche che hanno dato loro gli abitanti dei secoli passati. Già da lontano la vecchia città si mostra al visitatore chiusa e come concentrata su se stessa. Ricevette la sua forma originaria, simile alla prua di una nave, dai Romani che vi fondarono il municipio di Urvinum Mataurense. Questa forma è rimasta quasi invariata nel Medioevo, ma sotto i duchi di Montefeltro la città visse il mira-colo di una metamorfosi dalla quale uscì come una delle più belle città del Rinascimento italiano. Il duca Federico da Montefeltro, grande condottiero, uomo di stato e di cultura, fece costruire dagli architetti Luciano Laurana e Francesco di Giorgio Martini il suo palazzo che ben presto diventò un luogo di cultura. Intorno al duca Federico e la sua giovane moglie, la duchessa Battista Sforza prima, e dopo di loro intorno al Duca Guidubaldo e la duchessa Elisabetta Gonzaga, si riunirono gli spiriti più alti dell’Umanesi-mo e del Rinascimento. Il palazzo – questa «città in forma di palazzo», come l’ha defi-nito Baldassarre Castiglione nel suo Cortegiano – che si fonde così armoniosamente con le colline sulle quali è costruito e con il bellissimo paesaggio che lo circonda, e la vita di corte diven-nero modello per molte corti contemporanee. Questo magnifico edificio non ha perduto il suo splendore neanche nei secoli bui che seguirono per il palazzo e per la città dopo l’estinzione della casata dei Montefeltro e dei Della Rovere. Alla gloria della corte dei duchi di Montefeltro hanno contribuito pittori come Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Melozzo da Forlì, Giusto di Gand e Pedro Berruguete, scrittori come Baldassarre Castiglione e Pietro Bembo, architetti come Leon Battista Alberti e Bramante, filosofi, i matematici Luca Pacioli e Paulus von Middelburg, i poeti Bernardo e Torquato Tasso, il musicista Ottaviano Petrucci da Fossombrone. Manca nell’elenco solo Raffaello Sanzio, che è nato a Urbino, ma si è trasferito presto a Perugia, e poi a Firenze e Roma.A Urbino sono nati altri personaggi importanti della cultura italiana, l’architetto Girolamo Genga, il pittore Federico Barocci, il matematico Federico Comandino, l’architetto e matematico Muzio Oddi; nel Novecento lo scrittore Paolo Volponi che fino alla sua morte nel 1994 è rimasto intimamente legato alla sua città natale.Dopo un lungo periodo pieno di difficoltà in cui la fama di Urbino si è persa, la città si riprese per breve tempo, allorché nel 1700 il nobile urbinate Giovanni Francesco Albani venne eletto papa e col nome di Clemente XI mantenne il suo incarico per 21 anni. A lui si devono importanti interventi nella città e un rafforzamento

del Collegio dei Dottori, fondato nei primi anni del Cinquecento, precisamente nel 1506, dal duca Guidubaldo e riconosciuto da papa Giulio II nel 1507. Da esso, nel corso dei secoli, si è svilup-pata l’Università degli Studi di Urbino.All’inizio dell’Ottocento venne completata la spoliazione di Urbino, iniziata dopo la morte dell’ultimo duca di Urbino nel 1631. La città perse l’importante Biblioteca del duca Federico, passata al Vaticano, molti dei quadri più significativi, collegati alla sua storia, e tutti gli arredi del Palazzo Ducale. Si riprese con fatica da tutti questi eventi infausti, e solo nel Novecento ricomin-ciò a ravvivarsi restaurando il proprio patrimonio architettonico e raccogliendo nella Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, sita nel Palazzo Ducale, preziose opere d’arte di Urbino e delle Marche.

Oggi, la città di Urbino cerca di conservare le sue antiche strut-ture, ma al di fuori delle mura sono nati molti quartieri nuovi. La città ha circa 15.000 abitanti e conta 15.000 studenti universitari. I Collegi, dove sono sistemati molti degli studenti che frequenta-no l’Università, sono stati costruiti su un colle poco distante dalla vecchia città. Il centro storico invece è diventato un “campus uni-versitario”. L’Università degli Studi di Urbino, rimasta Università Libera fino all’anno 2006, ora è stata statalizzata. Durante il lungo rettorato di Carlo Bo (1947-2001), del quale dal 2002 porta il nome, è stata ampliata e consolidata e ha rilanciato così la vera vocazione di Urbino come luogo di cultura e di incontro fra stu-diosi, artisti e letterati di tutto il mondo.Urbino è la sede ideale per un corso estivo di lingua e cultura italiana. La città ancora oggi è a misura d’uomo, le distanze si percorrono a piedi; facili sono gli incontri fra cittadini urbinati e studenti stranieri. Inoltre, Urbino offre, a chi dimostra spirito d’iniziativa, la possibilità di avere contatti con studenti e profes-sori dell’Università anche nel mese di agosto perché essi sono presenti nella città per partecipare ai corsi estivi che l’Università organizza in estate.Chi vuole studiare vi trova tutte le opportunità. Con bus e auto-mobili è possibile fare gite nei dintorni per visitare le città d’arte delle Marche e delle regioni confinanti, o per fare il bagno nel vicino Mare Adriatico. La città, in estate più affascinante che mai, invita all’incontro e al dialogo.

ProGraMMa dEi corSi

Il programma consiste in una parte dedicata all’insegnamento della lingua italiana (la mattina) ed una parte riservata alla civiltà e alla cultura italiana (il pomeriggio) con particolare riguardo al periodo del Rinascimento e al Novecento (letteratura, arte, musi-ca, cinema, società, storia e politica). E’ inoltre prevista, la sera, la proiezione di film italiani (sette) e durante i finesettimana si organizzano escursioni in città d’arte delle Marche e delle regioni confinanti e passeggiate a Urbino.

Si svolgono ogni mattina da lunedì a venerdì in classi di non più di 20 persone e con docenti di madre lingua italiana di comprovata esperienza (in totale 80 ore di 45 minuti per ogni singolo corso). Sono divisi in livelli: il corso elementare con quattro livelli, il corso medio con tre livelli, il corso superiore invece è unico. Il corso ele-mentare inizia dal livello zero, tutti gli altri corsi presuppongono la conoscenza dei contenuti del livello precedente.La mattina del 25 luglio 2011, dopo l’inaugurazione del corso, i partecipanti affronteranno un test di lingua italiana, necessario per accertare le conoscenze linguistiche dei partecipanti e per poi poter costituire classi omogenee corrispondenti ai livelli indicati nel programma che segue.

I livelli dei corsi corrispondono ai livelli di competenza linguistica europei comuni stabiliti dal Consiglio d’Europa. È un sistema completo e coerente che comprende sei livelli (da A1 fino a C2) e le facoltà linguistiche più importanti. Per ogni livello vengono indica-te le competenze che si cerca di raggiungere durante il corso.

È in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro e dettagliato su una vasta gamma di argomenti e di esporre un punto di vista su un problema attuale, indicando i vantaggi e gli inconvenienti delle diverse possibilità. Seminario di lettura e analisi di testi della cultura italiana del Novecento (ore 12.15-13, da lunedì a venerdì) per partecipanti al Corso Medio (in totale 18 ore di 45 minuti). La partecipazione a questo corso è facoltativa. I testi sono distribuiti nelle lezioni.

Capitoli scelti della grammatica secondo le necessità della classe per approfondire le strutture complesse e difficili della sintassi. Meccanismi della formazione del lessico (composizione e deri-vazione). Tipologia dei registri testuali. Valori stilistici dei profili sintattici. Lessico di uso comune e di uso alto e lessici specialistici usati con pertinenza e precisione.2. Lettura e analisi di testiAscolto, lettura, comprensione ed analisi di testi prevalente-mente di carattere letterario (poesia e prosa narrativa), ma anche di carattere culturale in senso più ampio; riconosci-mento della tipologia dei testi e dei tratti stilistici caratterizzanti. Elaborazione di testi scritti su argomenti di letteratura e di cultura. Espressione verbale del proprio pensiero su argomenti conosciuti, dialoghi interattivi e discussioni.

Livello C1: Uso competente della lingua straniera 1Lo studente è in grado di capire una vasta gamma di testi esigenti e di una certa lunghezza come pure di comprendere significati impliciti. È in grado di esprimersi in modo scorrevole espontaneo, senza dare troppo spesso la netta impressione di dover cercare le sue parole. È in grado di utilizzare la lingua con efficacia e flessibilità nella vita sociale, professionale o nell’ambito della sua formazione e del suo studio. È in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro, strutturato e dettagliato su fatti complessi, utilizzando in modo adeguato mezzi linguistici per connettere le varie parti di un testo. I testi per la lettura che verranno presi in esami saranno indicati sul sito web prima dell’inizio del corso e distribuiti ai partecipanti in forma di dispensa.

Il Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo (CLA) dell’Università degli Studi di Urbino “Carlo Bo” nel 2010 è diventato sede degli esami CILS-Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera. Il certificato CILS (livello A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 e C2) è utilizzabile, in particolare a partire dal livello B2, per il mondo del lavoro, per l’insegnamento dell’Italiano, per l’iscrizione alle Università Italiane. Possedendo il certificato CILS di livello B2 gli studenti stranieri, che intendo iscriversi ad una Università Italiana, sono esonerati dalla prova ufficiale di lingua italiana.

Gli esami nel 2011 si svolgerannoil 9 giugno (iscrizione entro il 23 aprile) e il 1 dicembre (iscrizione entro il 15 ottobre).

ii. corSi di cULtUra itaLiana

Vengono organizzati seminari, conferenze e discussioni (quattro pomeriggi la settimana per un totale di 60 ore da 60 minuti) tenuti principalmente da docenti dell’Università di Urbino “Carlo Bo”. La frequenza a tali attività presuppone una discreta conoscenza della lingua italiana poiché il programma è pensato soprattutto per i partecipanti dei corsi medi e del corso superiore.

1. Il Rinascimento e UrbinoLa civiltà della corte; la figura del principe; la città, lo spazio e l’ar-chitettura; la festa e il teatro; la pittura; la letteratura; la musica. Sono previste conferenze sui seguenti argomenti: 1. Urbino “città ideale”. – 2. La musica di corte. – 3. L’Arte rinascimentale. – 4. Il Cortegiano di Baldassar Castiglione.

2. L’Italia contemporaneaLa poesia e la narrativa, il teatro, i movimenti artistici, la musica, il cinema, la società, problemi di storia, problemi di linguistica e sociolinguistica.

Sono previste conferenze sui seguenti argomenti1. La Regione Marche:aspetti geografici e culturali. 2. Usi e costumi degli italiani d’oggi 3. L’attuale situazione economica italiana 4. I partiti politici italiani 5. I giornali italiani e l’etica dei giornalisti. 6. Traduzioni culinarie in Italia. 7. I classici della letteratura e del teatro. 8. Il paesaggio italiano. 9. La cultura scientifica a Urbino.

3. Poesie e canzoni.Seminari interattivi di lettura e analisi di testi poetici e di canzoni d’autore vengono organizzati la sera, una volta a settimana. La partecipazione è libera.

4. Proiezioni di film italianidue sere a settimana presso il Cinema Ducale. I film proiettati sono scelti tra i “classici” del Novecento e tra quelli della filmo-grafia più recente. Vengono rese disponibili recensioni in italiano e inglese.

5. Visita guidata al Palazzo Ducale di UrbinoIn gruppi di massimo 30 persone. La durata della visita è di due ore circa e l’ingresso è libero. La guida sarà adeguata al livello di conoscenza della lingua italiana dei partecipanti.

6. Laboratorio di recita teatrale gestito dai tirocinanti del Master “L’insegnamento dell’italiano a stranieri: lingua e cultura” della Facoltà di Lingue e letterature straniere. La partecipazione è libera. Il livello di conoscenza della lingua italiana necessario è B2.

7. Per i corsi elementari saranno proiettati tre film italiani (su DVD) di facile comprensione, preceduti da un'introduzione in italiano e/o in inglese.

8. Laboratori per l’approfondimento delle conoscenze lin-guistiche e comunicative: i gesti degli italiani; introduzione al lessico culinario e ai comportamenti degli italiani in cucina.

9. Le escursioni in alcune città storiche delle Marche o delle regioni confinanti: si svolgono il sabato (30 luglio, 6 agosto e 13 agosto 2011). Sono previste visite a Rimini (Tempio Malatestiano, Museo Archeologico, Casa del dottore, Lungomare), San Leo e Gubbio. Le escursioni vengono organizzate con un numero mini-mo di 30 partecipanti. Il costo di ogni singola escursione è pari a Euro 25-30. Il programma dettagliato sarà disponibile alcuni giorni prima di ogni singola escursione.

10. La domenica vengono organizzate passeggiata attraverso il centro storico di Urbino con visita ad alcuni monumenti d’arte della città.

11. Le feste. La prima sera del corso i dirigenti dell’E.R.S.U. di Urbino - l’Ente che gestisce i servizi di vitto e alloggio agli studenti - offrono un rinfresco di benvenuto a tutti i partecipanti del corso. A metà corso (5 agosto) e alla fine del corso (19 agosto) avrà luogo una festa serale con rinfresco e musica.

La direzione del corso si riserva la possibilità di modificare i programmi in rapporto al numero degli iscritti.

Il primo giorno di corso, ai partecipanti verranno assegnate una password e ID per la connessione wireless. Sono attive a Urbino due reti Wireless: UWIC (Urbino Wireless Campus) e la Rete d'Ateneo con le sigle SAD, ESF, Townet e Neteco.

Chi desidera ottenere un certificato di profitto ufficiale con indicazione di voto e di crediti (4 o 6 crediti), è tenuto a fre-quentare regolarmente i corsi di lingua e di cultura (le assenze non potranno superare il 10% delle ore di insegnamento linguistico e il 20% delle ore di cultura italiana) ed a sostenere con esito positivo l’esame finale che si svolgerà venerdì, 19 agosto 2011.

Su richiesta, per coloro che non avranno sostenuto l’esame finale ma che avranno seguito regolarmente le lezioni, verrà rilasciato un attestato di partecipazione.Per i partecipanti iscritti alle prime due settimane di corso (2 o 3 crediti) l’esame finale si svolgerà venerdì, 5 agosto 2011, alle ore 15.00. Le date degli esami finali non possono essere anticipate.

Chi ha prenotato una camera ai Collegi Universitari potrà prenderne possesso a partire dalle ore 12.00 di domenica, 24 luglio. In ogni edificio dei Collegi Universitari sarà comunque esposta la lista dei partecipanti con l’indicazione del Collegio e della stanza assegnata.

Lunedì, 25 luglio 2011, alle ore 9.00 presso l’aula Magna del Nuovo Magistero Via Saffi n. 15, si potrà ritirare la tessera d’iscri-zione, indispensabile per l’accesso alla Mensa e alle altre strutture universitarie, Tutti i partecipanti sono pregati di portare con sé la ricevuta del versamento.

A seguire, alle ore 10.00, nella stessa Aula Magna del Magistero (Via Saffi 15) avrà luogo l’inaugurazione del Corso con un saluto del Magnifico Rettore dell'Università di Urbino.Verranno presentati i programmi dei Corsi e i partecipanti saran-

Alloggio – Gli iscritti potranno trovare alloggio a Urbino:1. Nei Collegi Universitari. Prezzo per posto letto in una stanza singola o doppia (fornita di biancheria, ma senza asciugamani): €

Per quatto settimane il costo a posto letto è di € 200 mentre per due settimane è di € 100, versato unitamente alla quota di iscrizione al Corso, con un unico bonifico bancario.I Collegi si trovano a una distanza di circa 500 metri dal centro storico di Urbino e dall’Università e sono serviti da autobus di linea. Autoparcheggi gratuiti sono disponibili vicino ai Collegi Universitari, autoparcheggi a pagamento all'ingresso del centro storico. Le stanze sono semplici e contengono solo l’indispensabile per la vita quotidiana dei giovani studenti. Una stanza singola contiene un letto con materasso, guanciale e coperta, un armadio, un cassettone, una scrivania con sedia, scaffali per i libri e una poltrona.Esiste comunque anche la possibilità di trovare stanze o miniap-partamenti nel centro storico di Urbino. In tutti i Collegi le cucinette non sono provviste né di vasellame né di posate. La biancheria in dotazione ai letti non può essere asportata dalle stanze. Non vengono messi a disposizio-ne asciugamani. I Collegi dispongono di una lavatrice a gettoni ad uso degli studenti, inoltre in città ci sono diverse lavanderie con lavatrici a gettoni. Agli alloggiati ai Collegi Universitari non è permesso portare animali. Urbino

Protected by its walls, the ancient city of Urbino is perched high on a ridge between the Metauro and Foglia valleys. It is sur-rounded by green hills that bear the landscape features left by inhabitants of centuries past. Even from afar the city appears compact and self-contained. It got its original shape, similar to a ship’s bow, from the Romans who founded the municipium Urvinum Mataurense. This shape remained virtually unchanged in the Middle Ages, but, under the Dukes of Montefeltro, Urbino underwent a miraculous metamorphosis emerging as one of the most beautiful cities of the Italian Renaissance. Duke Federico da Montefeltro, a great military commander, statesman and man of culture, had his palace built by the architects Luciano Laurana and Francesco di Giorgio Martini, and it soon became a cultural centre. The most important figures of Humanism and the Renaissance met around Duke Federico and his young wife Duchess Battista Sforza before, and, after them, around Duke Guidubaldo and Duchess Elisabetta Gonzaga. The palace, this “city in the form of a palace”, as Baldassare Castiglione called it in his Book of the Courtier, which blends so harmoniously with the hills on which it is built and the beautiful landscape that surrounds it, became a model for many contem-porary courts. This magnificent building stood gloriously even in the dark centuries that followed for the palace and the city at the end of the Montefeltro and Della Rovere rule. Many illustri-ous figures contributed to the glory of the Montefeltro court, including painters such as Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Melozzo da Forlì, Giusto di Gand and Pedro Berruguete, the writers Baldassarre Castiglione and Pietro Bembo, architects such as Leon Battista Alberti and Bramante, philosophers, the mathematicians Luca Pacioli and Paulus von Middelburg, the poets Bernardo and Torquato Tasso, and the musician Ottaviano Petrucci da Fossombrone. Only Raffaello Sanzio is missing from the list. He was born in Urbino but soon moved to Perugia, and then to Florence and Rome.Other important figures of Italian culture were born in Urbino, such as the architect Girolamo Genga, painter Federico Barocci, architect and mathematician Muzio Oddi, and in the 20th century the writer Paolo Volponi who maintained close ties to his birth-place until his death in 1994.After a long, difficult period of decline in which the fame of Urbino was lost, the city experienced a brief revival in the 18th century when Giovanni Francesco Albani, a nobleman from Urbino, became Pope Clement XI and reigned for 21 years. During his reign he was responsible for important works in the city as well as the consolidation of the College of Doctors, which had been founded by Duke Guidubaldo at the very beginning of

the 16th century and recognized by Pope Julius II in 1507. The University of Urbino developed from the College of Doctors over the centuries.The stripping of Urbino, which had begun after the death of the last Duke of Urbino in 1631, was completed at the beginning of the 19th century. The city lost Duke Federico’s important library, which went to the Vatican, many of the most significant paintings linked to its history, and all the furnishings of the Ducal Palace. It was difficult to recover from all these inauspicious events and it was not until the 20th century that Urbino began to renew itself, restoring its architectural heritage and assembling precious works of art of Urbino and the Marche in the National Gallery of the Marche housed in the Ducal Palace.

Today, while Urbino strives to preserve its ancient buildings, many new areas have sprung up outside the city walls. Urbino has a population of 15,000 and accommodates 15,000 university students. The University Halls of residence, which house many of the students who attend the University, were built on a hill not far from the old city. The University of Urbino, a “free” university until 2006, is now a state university. During the many years in which Carlo Bo (1947-2001) (the name given to the university in 2002), was Chancellor, it has been enlarged and improved, re-establishing Urbino as a cultural centre - a meeting place for scholars, artists and men of letters from all over the world. Urbino is the ideal place for a summer course in Italian Language and Culture. It is still a small city where you can get around on foot, and it offers many opportunities for foreign students to meet people from Urbino. Furthermore, contact with University students and professors are possible even in the month of August, since they are in Urbino at this time to take part in the University’s summer courses.If you want to study, the city offers every opportunity, but you can also make excursions by bus or car into the surrounding area to visit other artistic towns in the Marche and bordering regions or go bathing in the nearby Adriatic Sea. Urbino, more charming than ever in the summer, is also an ideal place to strike up con-versations and friendships.

ProGraM oF coUrSES

Part of the program is dedicated to the teaching of the Italian language (in the morning) while another part concentrates on Italian civilization and culture (in the afternoon) with a particular emphasis on the Renaissance and 20th century (lit-erature, art, music, cinema, society, history and politics). In the evening Italian films will be shown (seven) and at the end of the

week, there will be excursions to artistically important cities in the Marches and neighbouring regions and sightseeing around Urbino.

i. itaLian LanGUaGE coUrSES

These will be held every morning Monday through Friday in classes of no more than 20 people (for a total of 80 lesson hours of 45 minutes for each course), with native language teachers with proven experience. The courses are divided into levels: an elementary course with four levels, an intermediate course with three levels and an advanced course. The elementary course is for absolute beginners; all the other courses assume that students know the contents of the preceding level.On 25 July 2011 in the morning, after the course inauguration, participants will take an Italian Language test to determine their level of knowledge, in order for homogeneous groups to be formed corresponding to the levels shown in the program below.

The course levels correspond to the European levels of linguis-tic knowledge set by the Council of Europe. This is a complete and coherent system divided into six levels (from A1 to C2) comprising the most important language skills. The skills that the course aims to reach are shown for each level.

ELEMEntarY coUrSES

80 lesson hours of 45 minutes of Italian languageand 20 lesson hours of 60 minutes of Italian civilization.

ELEMENTARY COURSE, LEVEL 1 (for absolute begin-ners) (E1)The aim of the course is to reachthe A1 level of the European Framework. Credits: 4 (8.45-12.15)

Phonetics. Morphosyntax: conjugation of regular verbs in the following forms: infinitive, simple present, imperative, simple past. The same forms of the most frequently used irregular verbs such as dare, fare, stare, andare, venire, volere, potere, dovere, sapere. Reflexive verbs. Nouns and adjectives (gender and number). Definite and indefinite articles; personal, demonstrative and inter-rogative pronouns; possessive adjectives and pronouns. Cardinal numbers; basic adverbs and prepositions.

Syntax: affirmative and interrogative clauses. Basic vocabulary (about 700 words) relating to the most frequently occurring simple communicative situations encountered in daily life. Level A2: Elementary use of the foreign language 2The student can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, environ-ment, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

ELEMENTARY COURSE, LEVEL 4 (E4)The aim of the course is to reachthe B1 level of the European Framework.Credits: 4 (8.45-12.15)

Morphosyntax: regular and irregular verbs in the future, imperfect, present perfect and past perfect and simple past in the indicative form; present and past conditional; present and past subjunctive and their usage. Transitive and intransi-tive verbs; impersonal verbs. Compound nouns and relative pronouns. Pronoun particles (ci, ne) and combined pronouns. Conjunctions to introduce dependent clauses.Syntax: Independent and subordinate clauses.Vocabulary: basic vocabulary (1500 words) as well as everyday words (experiences, events, dreams, hopes, wishes, explaining plans and opinions, hypotheses, physical conditions and moods).Activities: listening comprehension tasks related to spoken messages. Morphosyntax: all tenses in the indicative and subjunctive forms of regular and irregular verbs; mention of the passive form. Use of indicative verbs in various temporal levels (especially the past tense); use of the subjunctive in coactive and volitive sentences. Position of adjectives; indefinite pronouns, pronoun particles (ci, ne), combined pronouns. Syntax: all types of subordinate clauses using the indicative; first and second type conditional clauses. Vocabulary: basic vocabulary (2000 words) and everyday voca-bulary (descriptions, information).Activities: listening comprehension and oral production based on texts dealing with complex everyday situations. Activities: overall comprehension of all types of oral texts spoken at average speed. Linguistic registers. Morphosyntax: use of all types of subordinate conjunctions with the indicative and subjunctive. Syntax: the sentence: relation between insubordinate and subor-dinate clauses. Para- and hypotaxis. Sequence of tenses. Indefinite moods: infinitive, participle and gerund-. Indirect speech. Vocabulary: word formation (composition and derivation). ADVANCED COURSE (S)The aim of the course is to reachthe C1 level of the European Framework.Credits: 6 (8.45-12.15) The program is divided into two parts:1. Grammar and stylistics: grammar chapters chosen according to the needs of the class to improve use of complex and difficult syntactic structures. Mechanisms of word formation (composi-tion and derivation). Types of textual register. Stylistic values of syntactic profiles. 2. Reading and analysis of texts: listening, reading, comprehen-sion and analysis of mainly literary texts (poetry and narrative prose), but also of a cultural nature in the widest sense; recogni-tion of different kinds of texts and styles. Writing about literary and cultural topics. Speaking about personal opinions on known topics; interactive dialogues and debates.Level C1: Proficient use of the foreign language 1The student can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

ciLS EXaMS

In 2010, the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo” Languages Centre (CLA) officially became a CILS - Certification in Italian as a Second Language - examination centre. The CILS certificate (level A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2) is useful, in particular from level B2 and beyond, for the world of work, for enrolment in Italian universities and for teaching Italian. Foreign students holding the CILS certificate of at least level B2 do not have to take an official placement test if they want to enrol in an Italian university. The 2011 exams will take place on 9 June (enrolments by 23 April) and on 1 December (enrolments by 15 October). For further information on CILS exams in Urbino, see:www.uniurb.it/cla.

ii. coUrSE on itaLian cULtUrE

Lectures, seminars and discussions will be held in the afternoon (4 afternoons a week, for a total of 60 lesson hours of 60 min-utes). Participants will need a fairly good knowledge of the Italian language. These courses are programmed primarily for students of the intermediate and advanced courses, and will be given mainly by professors of the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”.

1. The Renaissance in Urbino: life at court and the figure of the duke; the city, space and architecture; festivals and theatre; painting; literature; music. Lectures will be held on the following topics: 1. The “ideal city” of Urbino. 2. Courtly music. 3. Renaissance art. 4. The Book of Courtier by Baldassar Castiglione.

2. Contemporary Italy: Poetry and fiction, theatre, artistic movements, music, cinema, society, historical problems, linguistic and socio-linguistic problems.Lectures will be held on the following topics: 1. The Marche region: geographical and cultural aspects. 2. Customs

and habits of modern-day Italy. 3. The economic situation of con-temporary Italy. 4. Italian political parties. 5. The Italian press and journalistic ethics. 6. Culinary traditions in central Italy. 7. Literature and cinema classics. 8. The Italian landscape. 9. Scientific culture in Urbino.

3. Poetry and Songs. Interactive seminars in reading and ana-lysis of texts of poems and those of singer-songwriters. Once a week after dinner in the evening; attendance is free. Texts will be distributed.

4. Italian film shows (2 films a week, each 2-3 hours long, will be shown after dinner at the Cinema Ducale). Films will be chosen from among the “classics” of the twentieth-century as well as later releases. Summaries of the films in both Italian and English will be distributed before the viewings.

5. Guided tour of the Ducal Palace of Urbino in groups of no more than 30 persons. The tour will be adapted for the linguistic level of the participants (2 hours for the tour of the Palace for each group). The entrance is free.

6. Acting Workshop by students of the Master Course in “Teaching Italian to Foreigners: Language and Culture” of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Attendance is free and partici-pants should have Italian language proficiency level B2.

7. For the Elementary Course three easily understandable Italian films on DVD will be shown. Before every viewing there will be an introduction in Italian and/or English.

8. Laboratories for improving linguistic and communicative knowledge (gestures of Italian people; introduction to the vocabula-ry of cooking and the behaviour of Italians in the kitchen).

9. Excursions to some historic towns in the Marche or neigh-bouring regions will take place on Saturday (30 July, 6 August and 13 August 2011). Visits to Rimini (Malatesta Temple, Archaeological Museum, Casa del Dottore, Lungomare), San Leo and Gubbio are planned.Excursions will take place only with a minimum of 30 enrolments. Price of individual excursions: 25-30 Euros (included in course fee). A detailed program of each excursion will be given a few days before the event.

10. Walks through Urbino old town centre will take place each Sunday, visiting some of the artistic monuments in the town.

11. Parties. At the beginning of the course a Welcome Buffet will be offered by E.R.S.U. representatives of Urbino (Regional Agency responsible for the accommodation and meals) to all participants. Halfway through the course (5 August) and at the end of the course (19 August), there will be an evening party with buffet, music and dancing.

The administrators of the course reserve the right to modify the program according to the number of students enrolled.

Upon arrival in Urbino, the participants will receive a password for a wireless connection. There are two wireless networks in Urbino, UWIC (Urbino Wireless Campus) and the University Network (SAD, ESF, Townet and Neteco). The connection is available in many parts of the city, but not everywhere.

A final certificate of attendance indicating grade and credits (4 or 6 credits) will be given only to students who have regularly attended classes (participants must not miss more than 10% of the language courses and not more than 20% of the courses on Italian Culture) and passed the final exam on Friday 19 August, 2011.Those who have attended lessons regularly but have not taken the final examination can obtain a certificate of course attendance, if requested.For participants enrolled during the first two weeks only (2 or 3 credits) the final examination will take place on Friday, 5 August 2011 at 3 p.m.

Exams may not be organised at an earlier date for individual students.

bEGinninG and End oF coUrSES

Participants should arrive in Urbino by Sunday, 24h July 2011. Those who have booked a room at the University Halls of resi-dence can occupy it as of Sunday afternoon, 24 July, and should go directly to the University Halls of residence where the room has been reserved. A list of the participants, indicating the Hall of residence where each person has been assigned a room, will be posted in each building of the University Halls of residence.

Participants may pick up their enrolment card at the Aula Magna of the Magistero, Via Saffi 15, on Monday, 25 July 2011 from 9.00 a.m. onwards. This card is required to gain access to the University Canteen and other University facilities. Participants are asked to bring their payment receipt. The Inauguration of the Courses will be held on Monday, 25 July 2011, at 10.00 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Magistero (Via Saffi 15) with a welcome from the Chancellor of the “Carlo Bo” University of Urbino (or his deputy). Afterwards the course programs will be presented. After the inauguration of the course, in the same room, a placement test will be administered in order to form the classes according to the proficiency level of the participants. The results will be announced on the morning of July 26. Then classes will begin.

Any bank charges exceeding the aforementioned sum, already paid on enrolment, must be paid on arrival in Urbino. For detailed information ask the Segreteria del Corso per Stranieri, Via Saffi 2. Program participants should be aware that all bank transaction costs incurred by the sender’s bank and the bank in Urbino must be paid by the sender. For serious problems regarding payment contact the Segreteria Corso Estivo per Stranieri.

Enrolment is not valid until the University has received the entire enrolment fee. The University assumes no responsibility for bank deposits which have not been sent cleared in time.

Together with payment of the enrolment fee, participants must send to the Segreteria Corso Estivo per Stranieri, Via Saffi 2, I-61029 Urbino (PU), Italy, the enrolment form completed in all its parts (including personal information, the course and level chosen), a photocopy of the bank receipt of the enrolment fee payment, and a passport photo (for the enrol-

ment card). It is essential to indicate the course required, in order to facilitate the organizers’ preliminary coordination and planning and to assure that the courses will run smoothly. Those who wish to attend the Elementary Course (Absolute beginners) must indicate the course chosen (E1) on the enrolment form.

Group organizers may contact the Course Secretary for addi-tional information.In the last few days (one week) before the expiration date for enrolment, you are advised to get in touch by telephone, fax or email to find out about places available on courses.

The expiration date for withdrawal from a course for valid rea-sons, verified by documents, is 22 July 2011. Should the reason be considered valid, the course fee of € 500.00 will be reimbursed, and € 150.00 if a room at the University Halls of residence has been paid for.For those who enrol only for the first two-week course, the sum of € 220.00 will be reimbursed, and € 77.00 if a room at the University Halls of residence has been paid for.No refunds will be granted once the course has started.

board and LodGinG

The cost of board and lodging is not included in the enrolment fee. E.R.S.U. of Urbino is responsible for board and lodging. It manages the University canteens and Halls of residence for Italian and foreign students.

BOARDThose enrolled in the course can have their meals at the University Canteen. Meals cost € 4.00 each (drinks not inclu-ded). Participants will be given a magnetic card which has to be charged with money through a device located in each College and University Canteen.

LODGINGParticipants can find lodging in Urbino at the following places:

1. The University Halls of residence. Price per bed for a single or double room (linen provided except for towels): € 200,00 (for the duration of the course), € 100,00 (for the two weeks’ course). This is a special fee valid only for people enrolled on the courses and no further discount will be granted in case of non attendance at the beginning of or during the course.Reservations must arrive by July 16th, 2011 together with course enrolment, addressed to Università degli Studi “Carlo Bo”, Corso Estivo per Stranieri, Via Saffi 2, I-61029 Urbino (PU), Italia. The entire sum of € 200,00 or of €

100,00 for the two weeks’ course must be paid by July 16th, 2011 together with the course enrolment fee (with a single bank draft).

The residence halls are located about 500 mt outside the historic centre of Urbino and the University (it is a 20-minute walk with several long, uphill stretches), and they are connected to the town by bus. There are several car parks at the residence Halls. Rooms are simply furnished and contain the basic essentials. A single room contains a bed with a mattress, a pillow and a blanket, a closet, a chest of drawers, a desk, a chair, bookshelves and an armchair. It is also possible, however, to find lodging in rooms or small apartments in the centre of town. The choice of either single or double room must be indicated on the reservation form. Prices are the same per bed for single and double rooms. The accommodation in the Halls of residence will be allocated to each participant by E.R.S.U. For further information see www.uniurb.it/corstran.

The single rooms are organized in blocks of 6 or 8 rooms with 1 kitchen or kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and intercoms; the double rooms have bathroom, kitchenette, fridge and intercom.The kitchens and kitchenettes are not furnished with tableware. Bed linen provided. Please note that you need to bring towels with you. The Halls of residence offer coin-operated laundry facilities for students, and there are several coin-operated Laundromats in the city as well.

Those staying at the Halls of residence are not allowed to bring pets.

The sum of € 150.00 (€ 75.00 for a two-week course) of an amount already paid will be refunded in case of withdrawal from a course, for serious and certified reasons, notified by 22nd July 2011.

It is possible to occupy the reserved room on the afternoon of Sunday, 24th July 2011. Reserved rooms will be held only until midnight of 26th July 2011. In the event of late arrival for serious reasons, the arrival day should be communicated to the Segreteria del Corso before the beginning of the course. Departure date: 20th August 2011 / 21st August, by 12 noon at the latest.For those taking part in the first two weeks only, the departure date is Saturday, 6 August / 7 August by 10 a.m.at the latest.

2. Hotels: in the historic center price per day for a single room ranges from € 40 to € 100, for a double room from € 60 to € 130; outside of the historic center the price per day for a single room ranges from € 35 to € 65, for a double room from € 50 to € 80.
