Hello!Thank you for considering supporting our efforts to host the first ever Ivy League-wide mental health conference. This conference began with a simple idea: What if we could bring together some

of the best and brightest minds to tackle one of the biggest problems currently facing our campuses, the country, and the

world as a whole?1

Who are we?We are a group of Penn students, who represent different nationalities, cultures, viewpoints, and fields of study, yet are united by our passion for mental health and wellbeing.

We believe that, given recent mental health-related tragedies on Penn’s campus and others throughout the

country, action must be taken. This is that action.

Who’s coming?

Because we aim to bring together some of the best and brightest minds, there will be delegations from all eight Ivy League

universities. Representing different cultures, nationalities, and industries, these talented, influential student leaders have been carefully selected based on their demonstrated ability to create

positive change at their respective institutions.

State of the Ivy League

What are the issues unique to being an Ivy League student? Each delegate will have an opportunity to present the student perspective on the status of mental health on

their respective college campus. We aim to create a safe space for sharing experiences and providing examples on how to maintain one’s mental well being,

while remaining a top achiever.

Cultural Identity

Learn the benefits of embracing your cultural identity. Cultural identities can play a large role in how we approach, discuss, and treat mental health. This workshop will

discuss how to view different cultural identities as an advantage in this context, rather than an obstacle.

Gender and Sexual Identity

This workshop will focus on how issues relating to gender and sexuality interact with issues relating to mental health. We will discuss how to facilitate the creation of a comfortable campus environment where people of all gender identifications can

collaborate with each other comfortably and thrive.

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is often tied to mental health issues. This workshop will discuss the link between mental health and high-risk behaviors involving drugs and alcohol

abuse. In a judgment-free environment, we aim to clarify misconceptions and create more active community leaders who will go back to their respective campuses with

new knowledge and perspectives on this sensitive topic.

Medical Perspective on Mental Health

Mental health often has a physiological component. We will focus on understanding and treating mental health from a scientific perspective. We will address the

biological basis of psychopathologies and how they interact with our environment to create or hinder mental maladies. We will take a positive-psychology approach to provide research-based, practical solutions for on-campus mental health issues.

Expectations at an Ivy League

The expectations at and demands of an elite institution will be discussed, with a focus on the social and academic demands that come with being a student. In a

facilitated discussion, delegates will brainstorm practical ways to prioritize self-care and wellness while keeping up with school-related pressures.

Changing Our Campuses

Bringing implementable solutions and widespread cultural change to our respective campus communities is no small task. We will discuss pragmatic strategies to: 1) Start incoming students on a positive path to mental health, and 2) Change the

mentality of current students to one that prioritizes mental wellness.

Practicing Mental Wellness

While there’s certainly a time and place for talking about mental wellness, sometimes the best thing to do is to actively engage in activities that foster mental

health. In this workshop, attendees will learn the basics of yoga and meditation. Refreshing fruit smoothies will provide a fun, positive conclusion to the workshop

and the conference.
