ensuring that the colors are all correct

5. 20 adding and subtracting scientific notation problems (this is provided on

two sheets – one that is numbered 11-30 and is meant to be an extension of

the word problems – could even be printed on the back of the page… and

one that is numbered 1-20 for use by itself).

6. Task cards for the 10 word problems and individual small cards with the 20

calculation problems

7. Solutions for all 30 problems.

become an even more popular venue, with 2.53 x 106 visitors. How many

more visitors have been to Bubba‟s this year than last year?

2. Jilly Johnson is a fantastic jelly-band bracelet maker. Jilly used 3.73 x 103

bands last month and this month she used 2.87 x 103 bands. How many total

bands has she used in the past months?

3. 4.78 x 106 was the largest attendance record of the Polar Bear Express Chilly

Football Extravaganza. 3.98 x 106 attended at the last PB Express event.

How many more people were in attendance on the record-setting day?

has a diameter of about 3.0 x 103. What is the difference in their diameters?

5. There are a LOT of lakes in the mid-state area. The level of Lookout Lake is

6. In 2009 there were 2.35 x 106 ferrets kept as pets in India. At the same time

7. A very small but volatile bacteria takes up 1.78 x 10-2 square inches of space

on the rail of a front porch. A worker cleaning the rail sprays 3.45 x 103 square

inches of bleach cleaner over the bacteria area. How much more space

did the cleaning spray encompass than the bacteria?

8. Bubba and Fred are having a bubble-blowing contest. The diameter of

Bubba‟s bubble is 2.45 x 10-2 feet. Fred‟s bubble is 3.67 x 10-2 feet. What is the
