What is MM805 (Asia & Europe)?
I. A for credit, elective course1) Combines classroom concepts with the realities of managing in a global environment2) 3-credit elective enabling students to travel abroad to Asia and/or Europe
II. A unique “application” opportunity1) Students can apply management concepts by working directly in-the-field2) Case study and classroom knowledge are applied to real live companies3) MM805 provides an application of pre-travel company and country research to a live, interactive setting with ex-pats, foreign nationals and company representatives
III. An inspirational, educational experience1) Travel to four Asian or European countries over 17 days2) Each 4-day country module combines company visits and sightseeing

Asian Scheduling, Destinations & Cost
I. Scheduling1) May 13th - May 30th, 20022) Depart from Boston on 5/13, arrive in Boston on 5/30
II. Destinations1) Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam2) Bangkok, Thailand3) Beijing, China4) Tokyo, Japan
III. Costs1) $5,900 per student, double occupancy (30 student limit)2) Price covers airfare, airport transfers, company visits, sightseeing, high-end hotel, and daily breakfast

Company & Government Visits
I. Types of companies we hope to visit:1) Local companies in each country2) Subsidiaries of international and/or multinational corporations
3) Government agencies (i.e. Ministry of Trade)
II. Types of people we hope to meet with:1) Senior and mid-level managers2) Manufacturing plant managers3) Government representatives4) Entrepreneurs
III. Company Visit Schedule1) 2-3 hour presentations (or plant visits) by various representatives2) Question-and-answer period3) Where required, translation services provided by foreign nationals

MM805 Asian Grading- Part II. Pre-travel company and country research (33%):
1) Research: Research on companies, related business articles, and countries in advance of trip through brief classroom presentations over 4 sessions.2) Attendance: Sessions run from 6 - 6:55 pm on Tuesday nights on: 2/12, 3/12, 4/2 and 4/23. 2) Teamwork: For non-presenting students at each session: Preparation & and reading of company & country briefings in advance of meetings3) Preparation: 1-page written briefing on each company for inclusion into pre-trip “prep kit”4) Verbal Briefings: 15-minute briefings to classmates in advance of each company visit while “in-country”
II. Participation in company and government visits (33%):1) Participation during question-and-answer sessions2) Overall teamwork with classmates in preparing for trip, researching companies, and representing the CSOM

About Us (John)...
I. Currently teaches required information systems courses in the MBA program (MM740 [MP3], Strategy & Information Systems), as well as an undergraduate elective in electronic commerce
II. Research focuses on IS strategy, electronic commerce, networks and network externalities, client/server computing, and global information systems
III. Spent six weeks in the Shanghai area 7 years ago and studied a semester of Mandarin
IV. Formerly led 2 IME Europe trips

I. Currently teaches the full-time MBA Business Planning course, the Managing in a Global Environment class (summer), and MBA electives in International Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Finance.
II. Lived and worked in Japan for 3 years for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. Headed up Asia Pacific and Latin American Market Development for 2 years at Shiva corporation.
