Connecting The Dots The United States African Americans become sharecroppers and some attend colleges and universities. Sharecropping- landowners divided their land and gave each worker a few acres along with seed and tools. When crops were harvested, each worker gave a share of his crop, usually half, to the landowner. Tuskeegee University, Shaw, NC A&T, etc. The first transcontinental Railroad is constructed. Many others follow. The Buffalo population begins to die out due to fur trapping. Buffalo meat and hide were highly profitable. Natives used buffalo for many different things such as. The Battle of Wounded Knee ends the era of Native Americans fighting for their land. General Custers Seventh Calvary slaughtered 300 unarmed Native Americans, including several children. Why would that discourage other Natives from fighting? Mexican culture highly influences the Wild West As American as the cowboy may seem, his way of life stemmed directly from that of Spanish ranchers in Mexico. Cowboy clothes, food, and vocabulary had heavy Mexican influence. Industries emerge in cities making them metropolises.
