Carbon Solutions for Landowners

Your savanna burning project Savanna wildfires release methane and nitrous oxide which are potent greenhouse gases. Controlled early dry season savanna burning reduces the severity of savanna wildfire in the late dry season. These projects can generate carbon credits and significant local benefits under Federal Government programs. Savannas are purposely burnt by landowners earlier in the dry season. These actions lead to a reduction in the area burnt in the late dry season and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Savanna burning projects are developed and implemented with landowners. You determine when and where the burning takes place and you maintain control of the burning program the whole way. Natural Carbon uses satellite imagery and vegetation mapping to quantify the emissions’ reduction and takes care of all the regulatory, data and reporting requirements.

Our Approach Natural Carbon takes on the project development costs including methodology implementation, data collection and management, offset reports, monitoring and auditing. This includes in-house legal capabilities to provide legal advice across the full project cycle. Our approach applies cutting-edge software to tailor carbon solutions to the project and then finds the markets to achieve the best possible price for the sale of carbon credits.

What success looks like

Carbon Solutions for Landowners

There has been a reduction in wildfires on your land.

You have received an income stream from carbon credits created from your early season burns.

The income from carbon credits provides significant additional on-farm revenue and supports employment on the property.

There is increased protection for your stock and feed.

Biodiversity is conserved by protecting native plants and animals and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.

Early dry season savanna burning projects can generate a new, long-term income stream for your property. Your project will have succeeded when:

Project Implementation Steps

Our Service

Concept • Project design and establishment of cooperative partner agreements.Feasibility study • Legal and regulatory checks to confirm the project is eligible to create carbon

credits and to confirm the owner of the carbon rights and land title.

• Estimation of the baseline and project scenario emissions levels using vegetation and fire maps.

• Cost benefit analysis of the project including up front expenses and ongoing implementation, monitoring and verification.

• Risk assessment to identify any red flags.Registration and approval • Registration of the proponent as a recognised offset entity.

• Opening an Australian National Registry of Emissions Units account.

• Preparation and management of the application to the Clean Energy Regulator to declare the project an eligible offset project including mapping the project using satellite imagery.

Operation • The burning program is implemented by you. Natural Carbon can assist with the design of project operational plans and budgets, establishment of monitoring and governance processes and training of field staff.

Monitor and audit • Development of a monitoring plan to:

a) Monitor the number of hectares of each vegetation type burnt in each fire season and calculate total reduction based on burning efficiency, fuel load, relevant emission factors and carbon content. b) Monitor the quantity of liquid fuel for each fuel type used in the project (including helicopter flight time). c) Manage the validation of vegetation maps.

• Engagement and payment of an approved verifier to verify the baseline and project scenario.

• Submission of an offset report to the Regulator including the monitoring and verification reports.

• Submission of a completed Certificate of Entitlement application to the Regulator to action issuance of credits.

Sales • Marketing, promotion and sales of issued credits to compliance and voluntary buyers to obtain the best possible price.

Our Services

Using proven practices that have successfully delivered over 200 carbon projects worldwide, Natural Carbon can manage all aspects of the project, from feasibility and registration through to issuance and sales of carbon credits.
