“It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian

people may reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.”

Pope Francis, Misericordiae Vultus #15 Most of tonight’s music was chosen to reflect God’s mercy and our extending that mercy through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, pictured below on the banner outside the Merciful Help Center. How many of these works can you find reflected in the music tonight?

Run with the Light of Christ Karen Schneider Kirner Text: Based on the Rule of St. Benedict ALL join in singing refrain:

The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy

On Divine Mercy Sunday, 2015, Pope Francis announced a Jubilee Year of Mercy, to begin on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception 2015 and extend until tomorrow – the Feast of Christ the King. In our tradition, the idea of a Jubilee year dates back to the time of Moses. In a Jubilee year, slaves and prisoners would be freed, debts would be forgiven and the mercies of God would be particularly manifest.

In his declaration of the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis urges: “We want to

live this Jubilee Year in light of the Lord’s words: Merciful like the Father… ‘Be merciful just as your Father is merciful’” (Lk 6:36) The official worldwide hymn for the year has us pray this Scripture over and over: Misericordes sicut Pater – Merciful like the Father.

Of Pope Francis’s many messages for us in this Year of Mercy, perhaps

the most lasting is that our receiving God’s sweet mercy only comes to fruition when we do not keep it to ourselves, but rather act as instruments of that mercy. How? By extending God’s mercy and love to our neighbors – both the ones sitting next to us tonight and those we will never meet.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish seeks to live this out each and every day,

and this happens most visibly and spectacularly through our Merciful HELP Center and its many related ministries. 100% of tonight’s free will offering will go directly to the Merciful HELP Center to support your work in the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Thank you!
