Worship Notes:Participants: Dr. Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, as part of giving thanks in November, speaks today aboutstewardship. Randy Daniel, an elder and financial planner, hosts today’s worship. Victor Brown, KetteringCollege’s dean for enrollment, brings the Children’s Story. Kathy Boyd, a Southern Adventist University alumna andcurrently the accountant in Spring Valley Academy’s finance office, reads today’s Scripture. Clive Wilson, KetteringCollege Chaplain, presents the Prayers of the People. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, is the organistfor today’s service.

Ken Parsons is director of Southern Adventist University’s Wind Symphony, Brass Ensemble, and Jazz Band. He hasbeen at Southern since 2000. Previously, he taught at Forest Lake Academy in Apopka, Florida. His teaching loadincludes applied trumpet, brass methods, and most music education classes.

As we gather for worship, the SAU Wind Symphony plays settings of three hymns.(2006) is the first movement of Brant Karrick’s . Following a brass fanfare, William Croft’s hymn “OGod, Our Help In Ages Past” (Hymn No. 103) is introduced. A short fugal section pays homage to two greatcomposers of past ages and plays into the idea behind the title. The work is dedicated to the composer’s parents:“My father, a music educator and composer, taught me how to orchestrate and to appreciate counterpoint. Mymother has been a church organist since before I was born, and I have many fond memories of her opening up thepipes and ‘letting it rip!’ ” Karrick is Director of Bands at Northern Kentucky University.

(Hymn No. 2) is a paraphrase of the famous by St. Francisof Assisi which proclaims that all creation is invited to bring their gifts and talents to the Lord. The text was writtenin 1910 by William Henry Draper, an English clergyman. The tune gets it’s name from the German Easter hymn,

This hymn, sung as the opening hymn for today’s service, is also the basis of today’sextended postlude,

was composed in 2010 by John Wesley Gibson, who serves  as the Artist-in-Residence for theinternationally acclaimed Dallas Wind Symphony and is recognized for his works for orchestra, band, chorus andpercussion. Mr. Gibson taught band and orchestra in the Amarillo Public Schools and composition at both theUniversity of North Texas and the University of Arizona.  He served as chair of music at McMurry University and asAssistant Dean at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. was written for Dr.Bradley Hunter Welch, organist at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. The work was premieredby Dr. Welch and the Dallas Wind Symphony, conducted by Jerry Junkin. A concerto for organ and concert band,

II. The Examination Room A. The first x-ray: A _______________ heart (1 Samuel 30 NIV) {9}David and the six hundred men with him came to the Besor Ravine, where somestayed behind, {10} for two hundred men were too exhausted to cross the ravine. But David and four hundredmen continued the pursuit.

{16} He led David down, and there they were, scattered over the countryside, eating, drinking and revelingbecause of the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from Judah. {17} Davidfought them from dusk until the evening of the next day, and none of them got away, except four hundred youngmen who rode off on camels and fled. {18} David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including histwo wives. {19} Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. Davidbrought everything back. {20} He took all the flocks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the otherlivestock, saying, "This is David's plunder."

{21} Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and whowere left behind at the Besor Ravine. They came out to meet David and the people with him. As David and hismen approached, he greeted them. {22} But all the evil men and troublemakers among David's followers said,"Because they did not go out with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered. However, each manmay take his wife and children and go."

{23} David replied, "No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the LORD has given us. He hasprotected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us. {24} Who will listen to what you say? Theshare of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. Allwill share alike."

{24} But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORDmy God burnt offerings that cost me nothing."

C. The third x-ray: A _______________ heart(1 Chronicles 29) {6}Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders

of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly.

{11} Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. {12}Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exaltand give strength to all. {13} Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

{16} O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for yourHoly Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. {17} I know, my God, that you test the heartand are pleased with integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seenwith joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. {18} O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham,Isaac and Israel, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.
