What is CompEx:CompEx is an internationally-recognized course and qualification for hazardous areas installation and inspection. It provides competence-based training and assessment for electrical and instrumentation technicians, as well as other personnel working in hazardous locations in both offshore and onshore industrial environments.

Through the use of modular training, CompEx instills confidence through hands-on learning and application, as well as a thorough testing and assessment process. Successful completion of a CompEx course can therefore lead to critically-important improved safety for personnel, equipment, and facilities.

CompEx Ex01-Ex04 – Gas & VaporsElectrical/instrumentation installation, maintenance & inspection

CompEx Ex01-04 is designed for those involved in the selection, installation and inspection of equipment. Installation Standard IEC 60079-14 requires an assessment of the operative’s practical skills, in addition to training on theory and application. Includes practical assessment and evaluation, such as the CompEx Scheme where trainees are expected to assemble equipment (e.g., glands) that will then be taken apart and examined by assessors.

This course consists of classroom-based theoretical and practical training (50%), and practical assessment and written evaluation (50%).

An electrical installation background is helpful but not required.

This course will be conducted by Wayne Mayo. Wayne is a technical training specialist at Intertek, and a leading global trainer for CompEx, with over 30 years of experience in the electrical industry. Wayne began his career with the U.S. Navy and served as a ship electrician, recruiter and supervisor. Wayne holds numerous certificates in electrical/electronic safety and control, and has been teaching hazardous area electrical safety for almost a decade, and has a leading role in the development of hazardous area training for North America. Recognized as a leading expert on the subject, Wayne provides both instruction and technical advice to various industries on the safe operation of areas with potentially explosive atmospheres. Wayne is also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), U.S. National Committee of the IECEx and IECEx’s Working Group 12 for Personnel Competency.
