Welcome from our
RACE DIRECTOR On behalf of the dedicated and enthusias;c team at Elite Energy, welcome to the 11th year of the Huskisson Long Course Triathlon Fes;val.
The “Husky” Long Course Triathlon Fes;val is now established as one of Australia’s most beloved Long Course events. Over 11,000 long course athletes have crossed our finish line since the first race in 2006, and it con;nues to be one of the most an;cipated events on the triathlon calendar.
But this event is more than just a long course triathlon. It is a true fes;val with a packed weekend program that includes Sprint and En;cer distance triathlons, an Ocean Swim, Fun Runs, MINIMAN kids’ triathlon, and our biggest ever Health & Lifestyle Expo.
Huskisson, and in fact the whole Shoalhaven area, is a spectacular spot to race and holiday with great local cafes and restaurants, coupled with a full range of accommoda;on from camping, cabins, motels through to beach front homes. There is something for everyone in this part of the world.
We all hope you will have ;me to also enjoy the wonder and scenic beauty of the Huskisson and Jervis Bay areas, and in fact Shoalhaven as a whole. We have included some suggested ac;vi;es and local aWrac;ons at the end of this booklet
As any triathlete knows, volunteers are the lifeblood of these events. I am pleased to advise that more than 500 people from the surrounding areas have volunteered to support you over race weekend, and each one of them is commiWed to geYng you to the magic of the finish line. These wonderful people of all ages are well aware of your dedica;on and commitment to the task you have personally set. Please take the ;me to say thank you to this great team before, during or a[er the race -‐ they are inspired by you and understand the sacrifices you have made just to get to the start line. Please respect them and the community at large by leaving the surrounding areas as clean as you found them.
Finally, the team at Elite Energy hopes you enjoy your experience and the challenge of the Huskisson Long Course Triathlon Fes;val and wishes you the best race possible.
See you at the finish line. Mark “Emo” Emerton Race Director CEO – Elite Energy Pty Ltd

A Message from the
RACE REFEREE To ensure that the event is safe and fair for all compe;tors all events during the Jervis Bay Triathlon Fes;val will be conducted within the provisions of TA Race Compe;;on Rules. It is your responsibility to know and understand the Rules which are available at the following Link: hWp://www.triathlon.org.au All events are NON DraBing. Saturday If you are compe;ng in the Sprint Races or the EnFcer Events on Saturday: 1. The draB distance is 7-‐metres (approx. 4 bike lengths) between bikes measured between the leading edge of the front wheel of both the leading and following bicycle. 2. When overtaking you have 15 seconds to complete the pass and a pass MUST be completed once the 7-‐metre dra[ zone is entered i.e. athletes who enter dra[ zone and do not complete the pass and drop back out of the dra[ zone may be penalized for dra[ing. During the cycle leg of the Sprint or En;cer Events, Dra[ing, Blocking, Illegal Pass, Helmet and LiWering infringements incur a 3-‐minute ;me penalty to be served at the Penalty Box located approx. 50 m before the dismount line. Failure to stop at the Penalty Box may result in a Disqualifica;on (DQ). Sunday If you are compe;ng in the Husky Long Course on Sunday: 1. Sunday-‐ Long Course During the cycle leg of the Husky Long Course Event, Dra[ing, Blocking, Illegal Pass, Helmet and LiWering infringements incur a 5-‐minute ;me penalty to be served at the Penalty Box located approx. 100 m before the end of the cycle lap, prior to the turn back into the transi;on area. Failure to stop at the Penalty Box at the end of the lap in which the infringement occurred may result in a Disqualifica;on (DQ). In all events, 2 PenalFes may result in a DisqualificaFon. To minimise any misunderstanding on race day, the following summarises how you can avoid breaching the rules. • Avoid a BLOCKING infringement by riding on the le[ side of the bike lane • Avoid a DRAFTING infringement by… 1. Keeping 7 or 12-‐metres between yourself and the cyclist in front of you – front wheel to front wheel 2. Comple;ng your pass within 15 or 25-‐seconds 3. Dropping back outside the dra[ zone once passed and before aWemp;ng to re-‐pass • Avoid an ILLEGAL PASS infringement by passing other athletes on the right. • Avoid a LITTERING infringement by not throwing away ANYTHING except when approaching or exi;ng aid sta;ons. • Avoid a HELMET infringement by always having your chin strap securely fastened when moving with your bike. A SPECIAL NOTE ON WETSUITS (if it is wetsuit swim) note the extract from the Australian Race Compe;;on Rules with regard to wetsuits: “2 SWIMMING CONDUCT 2.1 When wetsuits are allowed, all of the components of the wetsuit will fit to the athletes’ body Gghtly; “ If you have a wetsuit that has neoprene or carbon fibre flaps on the forearm to increase the pull through the water, these suits are not legal. Other common rule infringements are… • UNAUTHORISED EQUIPMENT – absolutely no cell phones, MP3 players, Oakley Thumps, iPods or other audio listening or communica;on devices.

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE – do NOT accept any assistance from anyone other than race personnel and do not have non-‐racers ride or run alongside you. Triathlon is an individual event and it is your responsibility to fully understand the rules and avoid infringements. A Technical Official’s ruling is final in the case of Dra[ing, Blocking, and Illegal Pass infringements (Judgment Calls) and these are not subject to either protest or appeal. There is no Penalty Box on the Run course so if you receive an infringement on the run leg you will serve an on-‐course Stop/Start Penalty with the Technical Official. Conduc;ng personal toilet other than at the oncourse toilet facili;es provided may result in a DQ. Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers and officials with courtesy and considera;on as failure to do so is Unsportsmanlike Conduct and may result in a DQ. I sincerely hope you have a great race, lots of fun, and achieve your Triathlon goals. Peter Shields Race Referee Husky Long Course

Swim Course 2km The Swim Course closes 1 hour a[er your official wave start ;me. Failure to meet this ;me will result in a DNF (did not finish) classifica;on. The course is a one lap 2 km open water clockwise triangular shaped swim in the crystal clear waters of Jervis Bay with a beach start on Huskisson Beach. One of the major aWrac;ons of Jervis Bay is the natural marine life including seals, penguins, and dolphins.
The depth of the water varies throughout and there is a ;dal current. At the swim finish, swim as close to the shore as possible prior to standing. There will be many trained personnel along the Swim Course (boats and suroards) to assist you in case of any medical emergency while you are in the water. If you experience difficul;es during the swim and require assistance, raise your arm. You may use a float or sta;onary cra[ to support yourself to regain composure before con;nuing and not incur a penalty. If you obtain other assistance rules provide that you will be disqualified from taking further part in the race.
WET SUITS The Triathlon Australia appointed Technical Delegate will take the water temperature 24 hours before race start and the reading will be displayed at Registra;on on Saturday a[ernoon. The water temperature will be taken again on race morning and the wearing of wet suits will be condi;onal upon water temperature. The temperature of the water should be in the vicinity of 22C. If, however, the temperature is well below this due to freak condi;ons it is possible the swim could be shortened. Wet suits and an addi;onal cap/s are advisable in such condi;ons. Wet suits may be checked for acceptable thickness and illegal flota;on inserts. Wet suits which do not meet Triathlon Australia acceptable standards in this regard may result in disqualifica;on a[er the swim.
SWIM START: There will be minimum (4) wave starts commencing at 6:35 am and separated by five (5) minute intervals. Swim caps will be colour coded according to each wave. Details of your wave start grouping will be issued at Saturday Registra;on and available again on race morning.
You will be called to the start line from the bike compound into your wave. You should ensure you assemble according to your swim cap colour and move to the start line without undue delay. You must not move beyond the start line. You will have sufficient ;me for a warm up before being called back to the line. N.B. Technical Officials will monitor compe;tor behaviour during the swim. Breaches of rules will result in a three minute Fme penalty prior to entering the bike compound area.

Medical Fitness / Waiver Please ask for medical help if you have the slightest hint you may need it during the race. There will be an ambulance on stand-‐by at all ;mes. Note also that
if you are transported by ambulance you could be required to meet costs involved unless covered by an appropriate medical fund. Any aid given by race
medical personnel on the course is permissible and will not lead to disqualifica;on, excluding the swim sec;on. If, however, you have any outside assistance you may be disqualified.
You will be withdrawn from the race only if you require transporta;on, IV fluids, or if medical personnel consider your con;nued par;cipa;on presents a
danger to the health or welfare of you or others. The medical aid sta;on at the start will handle any injuries or medical problems that arise prior to the start and
during the swim.
Those compe;tors who advised on the entry applica;on of specific medical condi;ons will be listed to facilitate treatment by our medical staff on the course e.g. the Ambulance personnel will be provided with a list of these compe;tors and their specific condi;on.
As per your agreed waiver, if you have any medical condi;ons that you need to make our Medical Director aware of, please email [email protected].
Outside Assistance There are sufficient viewing areas on the swim, cycle and run legs for your family, friends, coaches and supporters to see you during the race. Do not allow them to cause you to be disqualified by being on the course with you. Think of all the training you have put in, only to have a well-‐meaning rela;ve, friend, etc. cause this to happen in one instant.
Officials at Aid Sta;ons and on the course, as well as the Police, have the authority to report to the Race Referee to disqualify and take you off the course
for a breach of this race rule. There is absolutely no provision for having anyone running, walking, cycling, driving beside or near you. Tell them to go away even if they are well meaning and only wan;ng to offer encouragement. They can s;ll do this as you go by. We have enough trouble controlling the normal traffic flow for your safety.

Triathlon Australia Technical Officials will be ac;ve on the run course as well as the swim and cycle courses.
Illegal Items: Requests from well-‐meaning friends/ rela;ves to hand items to compe;tors during the race is not permiWed and will lead to disqualifica;on, so advise them before the race.
Outside Assistance also means no use of headphones or mobile phones.
Important Teams InformaFon Only one member of your team (the Cyclist) needs to collect the race pack at registra;on on the Saturday.
Your ;ming chip is the team baton. Team members can assist in removing the ;ming chip from one team member to another. For example when the swimmer reaches the rider of their team in transi;on the runner from the team can be there and remove the chip from the swimmer and place it around the le[ ankle of the rider. When the rider returns the swimmer can assist by removing the ;ming chip from the rider and place it on the le[ ankle of the runner.
Cut Off Times Each leg of the triathlon has a cut off ;me for the safety of the athletes and the limita;ons placed on the event organisers by the authori;es.
These ;mes are:-‐
• Swim – 1 hour a[er your official wave start ;me
