We all hope you will have time to also enjoy the wonder and scenic beauty of theHuskisson and Jervis Bay areas, and in fact Shoalhaven as a whole. We have includedsome suggested activities and local attractions at the end of this booklet

As any triathlete knows, volunteers are the lifeblood of these events. I am pleased toadvise that more than 500 people from the surrounding areas have volunteered tosupport you over race weekend, and each one of them is committed to getting you tothe magic of the finish line. These wonderful people of all ages are well aware of yourdedication and commitment to the task you have personally set. Please take the time tosay thank you to this great team before, during or after the race - they are inspired byyou and understand the sacrifices you have made just to get to the start line. A Message from the

RACE REFEREEAll Triathlon Events this weekend will be conducted under the Triathlon Australia (TA) Race Competition Rules, and this is a ‘NON Drafting Event”.

To minimise the possibility of infringing the rules on race day and avoiding a visit to the Penalty Box, please observe the following:

• Ride on the left side of the bike lane• Keep 12 metres between yourself and the cyclist in front of you for the Long

Course event on Sunday and 10 metres for all events on Saturday– the distance is measured leading edge of the front wheel of leading bike to leading edge of front wheel of trailing bike.

• Pass on the right of the cyclist in front (never on the left)• Complete your pass within 25-seconds on Sunday and 20 seconds for all events

on Saturday• If passed, drop back immediately 12 metres (10 metres Saturday) and ensure you

have dropped back the full 12 metres (10 metres) before re-passing

Triathlon is an individual race and it is your responsibility to fully understand the rules and avoid infringements. A Technical Official’s ruling is final in the case of Drafting, Blocking, and Illegal Pass infringements (Judgment Calls) and these are not subject to either protest or appeal. Following are the most common rule infringements:

Blue Card 5-minute Penalties include:• Drafting – Following a leading cyclist closer than 12 metres (or 10 metres -Sprint

to Enticer) and failing to pass in 25 seconds (20 Seconds for Sprint to Enticer) OR after being passed, failing to drop back 12 metres (10 metres for Sprint to Enticer) before re-passing –

• Illegal Pass – Passing on the left• Littering - Discarding items, e.g. tyres, bidons, gel wrappers etc., on any part of

the course except within designated areas near an Aid Station

Only covers for seats and high tech bike equipment will be allowed. Thismaterial, when removed on race morning, must be discarded in bins provided. No other coveringmaterial can be placed on your bike.

Bike racks will be numbered accordingly and there will be two transitions for this year’s event. Withan increase in competitor numbers for 2017, we have split the Long Course into the followingcategories:

Transition on the Road - Waves 1-9

• Opens @ 5:30am / Closes @ 6:30am / Briefing 6:40 am in Transition

Transition on the Grass – Waves 10-16

• Opens @ 7:00 am / Closes @ 8:20 am / Briefing 8:30am in Transition (you can have a sleep in)

Please note that the bike check-in is a safety precaution to monitor basic soundness of your bike, andis essentially a visual check on obvious defects. It is not a certification of roadworthiness by raceofficials that your bike meets any specific minimum criteria or a guarantee it will not break downduring the race. It is your sole responsibility to ensure the mechanical and safe operation of your bikeprior to and during the race.

Timing All Athletes will be timed with a Chip Timing System provided by Multi Sport Australia, andinvolves the use of an electronic chip attached to an ankle band. Your responsibilities as acompetitor include:

When you register on Saturday 18th February, you will be issued with a Timing Chip.

You must wear the Chip at all times while racing. The timing band with the chip must beattached to your left ankle before you register on Sunday morning for the swim. You must leave iton until you finish the entire race. It is a means of recording your finish times across the specialtiming mats located at the end of each leg of the race and other check points (turnarounds etc.).

At the completion of the race you will be required to remove the timing band and hand it toOfficials prior to leaving the secured finish compound area. If you fail to register for the swim onrace morning (Sunday), you are still responsible for returning the chip to race headquarters at thefinish area.

As you have acknowledged on your entry contract, the timing chip and band is on loan and youare committed to returning the band intact with the chip to the Elite Energy Pty Ltd or pay anAU$150 fee.

Do not lose or forget your chip on race day. Limited replacement chips will be available atregistration, but there is no guarantee that one will be supplied to you. You will remainresponsible for the return of the original chip and any replacement chip or the cost of them.

It is imperative that you return the timing band to the Race Office should you withdraw from therace at any time. It is essential for us to know where you are on the course at all times for yoursafety and our ability to post accurate official results post- race.

The Race Office also needs to be advised of competitors who may be transported from thecourse direct to the Medical Recovery Area at the Finish Compound
