In an effort to attract more locals, the company, contracted to safely transport our workforce and families around Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area, held two job information sessions at Howard Springs last week. More than 30 people with interest in joining the team attended these sessions – with some already being shortlisted. There are currently 83 drivers on board with the company – 80 of them have been recruited locally, while three were long term employees who relocated to Darwin. Locals in front at Buslink VIVO: Brian Quinn (L) and Wynyard Lum are two of 80 local bus drivers working on the Project. Wynyard Lum, who’s lived in Darwin since 1990, said he was delighted to be involved in the Project after spending the past few years self-employed mainly in landscaping. Brian Quinn has been a Territory local for almost 40 years. Brian has had a variety of jobs over the years but said the split shifts of three hours in the early mornings and three hours in the evening were perfect. “They allow me plenty of time to catch up with my four children and four grandchildren,” he said. Buslink VIVO uses local training provider Advanced Training International to provide a six week course to improve the skills of local applicants.

Locals hold the wheel at Buslink VIVO

Community Bulletin #78 JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd (JKC)

The roads scholar of local employment is Buslink VIVO with 80 local drivers now at the wheel.

Talk to us

Preparations for the construction of the onshore component of the Gas Export Pipeline (GEP) and the Fuel Gas Pipeline (FGP) at Blaydin Point are underway. The onshore component of the GEP is approximately 8 km of 42” pipe of the 889 km subsea pipeline which is currently under construction which will link the Central Processing Facility and the Ichthys LNG plant at Blaydin Point.

The onshore component forms part of JKC’s scope of works for the Project. Key personnel from JKC and INPEX this month accompanied the GEP subcontractor, Monadelphous KT Pipelines, on a walking tour of the route (seen below). In addition to the pipelines, the scope of work includes civil works adjacent to Wickham Point Road and the Blaydin

Point site access road, a crossing of Wickham Point Road, testing and commissioning of the pipelines and associated facilities. Construction of the pipelines is due to commence in April with most of the work planned to be substantially completed by the end of next year, with final tie ins to the offshore pipeline to be completed in 2015.
