Distrbution

After the last AdCom I learned that EML had been postponed to the week of June 7th to allow attendees to have a tour of a new Littoral Combat Ship

As the postponement was expected to reduce attendance and the recruiting expectations were thus much less, Sal Portillo decided that we not do anything for this conference.

Greece turned out to be a logistics nightmare as shipping from the French warehouse, and delivery to and collection from the conference of the recruiting materials was a challenge, In the end, the very late collection from the Island of Kos was so delayed that the shipment was sent straight to Dresden where even then it arrived late despite three clear weeks between the two meetings.

Membership

Membership: The updated charts are attached. We see the normal annual progression although one might say that there is a slow downward trend in the membership after the February non-renewal cut-off.

While membership was down over last year after the cut-off, we have caught up and passed last year’s June membership numbers.

Web Site

The new site is on the point of being published from the IEEE site and at that point it will have the content of the current site.

Thank you to all who read, corrected and added to the site and we look forward to more input.

Dick Kouzes will be doing the edits from that point and then all the changes will be implemented. It is expected that edits and page configurations will be easy to implement.

Please continue to send updates and new photographs to Dick. Edits as whole paragraphs please.

Social Media

IEEE is getting serious about IEEE social media support within IEEE rather than using commercial sites and thus exposing our professional business to the engines that choose the advertising we are shown.

Stefan Ritt has developed a Facebook page that we should use to announce items and just keep posting. The Alexandria Chapter is very active on Facebook.

Idea

Rapid communication to our members– Web site is not watched often

– Newsletter only 4x per year

– Email notifications end up in spam folder

Social Media allows quick info to the people being interested in this info– Receive information through subscription (“Like”, “Follower”)

– Announcement of conference deadlines a few days before the deadline

– Announcement of award winners

– Information about new publications, newsletters …
