Ourselves
Focusing on ourselves, rather than the other
person can lead to confusion and conflict.
The "Me Generation" is out when it comes toeffective communication.
Some of the factors that cause this are:
Defensiveness(we feel someone is attacking us),
Superiority(we feel we know more than the
other), and
Ego(we feel we are the center of the activity).

Physical barriersinclude difficulties in hearing and seeing.
Intellectual barriersmay occur because of the natural ability, home background or
schooling that affects the perception and understanding of the receiver.
Emotional barriersinclude the readiness, willingness or eagerness of the receiver
and the emotional status of the educator.
Environmental barriersmight occur if there is too much noise or if the room is too
congested.
Cultural barriersinclude those customs, beliefs or religious attitudes that may
cause problems. Economic and social class differences and language variation, aswell as age differences, may also be difficult to overcome. Either too high or too
low status of the educator (sender) compared to the audience may affect
communication.

Communication Cycle:What is intended
What is spoken
What is heard
How it is understoodWhat is agreed to
What is acted on
How it is actually implemented
What results were really obtained.Be aware of where you or others
tend to fall off the cycle.
