As we head into the quieter months as far as boating goes, the staff and the management commit-tee are still hard at work striving to make CPBA membership of greater value to all members. The introduction of our new staff structure headed up by John Tissott is already showing very promising signs with John and the team working on improving the presentation of the grounds, along with the planning for the commencement of a number of exciting projects for our club. John has highlighted a number of these in his section of the newsletter, so I shan’t steal his thun-der, but please take a look at what some of the plans being considered are. The things that are be-ing looked at are to bring financial stability and growth to CPBA and protect our position for the future. We have a number of things being considered that will assist in making CPBA a club that will flourish in the future, and add value to the cost of membership. On a social note, we have several functions booked using our magnificent facilities, along with a number of club organized social functions. I encourage all members to support the activities so that they are a success, and we can speed the growth of our club. Keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks as the first floor level of the club is further trans-formed with the introduction of café style furniture that will add further to the atmosphere of the area. Taking on information from our recent member survey (which was very well supported with a very high response level from members – thank you to all responders), there was very strong flavor of improving the food and beverage offer from the club. This is one of the key items that John and Cindy are working on. I am hopeful that we can achieve something in this area sooner rather than later. Our AGM is coming up very quickly. It is scheduled for September (Please check the web-site for dates and times). At this meeting the management committee will step down and a new team elected. I encourage anyone who feels that they can add value to the running of this club, and can spare the time, to get involved and help in the planning and decision making for the future of CPBA Inc. The injection of new ideas and talent is crucial to the long term viability of the club, and this responsibility should not be left to the same group year in year out. As mentioned earlier, if you can see your way to be able to get involved, please step forward. Mark Glew

May Busy Bee Report

With the forecast for a wet and miserable day, I had re-signed myself to the strong possibility that we would not see many volunteers at the Busy Bee. I knew Bill would be hell bent on getting some limestone blocks laid around the edge of the concrete pad area of the Gazebo down near our No 1 ramp so I expected to work up a sweat and feel the lash of his whip. Di and I arrived a bit before 8-30 am and found that Bill had already organised a start for a couple of jobs. Alan and Ron were setting up to fit the roof flashing and door lock to the dangerous goods shed and I saw George T, Kevin & Bob walking down to the Gazebo. I immediately felt great relief, not only because the weather wasn’t that bad or that I probably didn’t have to feel the lashing of Bill’s whip but more because when I see these same guys come to our Busy Bees, I feel extremely grateful for their willingness to share their experience in get-ting some of these jobs done around the Club. George T is a great example of a Club member. He has been with us for many years and still has enough respect for the Club and enthusiasm to regularly volunteer his time and contribute to-

wards getting some of the maintenance jobs done around the grounds. His general manner and ability to initiate a bit of banter with other volunteers soon gets the guys going and into the work at hand. Colin was a late starter to this team but soon redeemed himself by taking on the job of cutting a couple of the limestone blocks. Our soon to be centenarian, George W, was also on hand to supervise. A massive thanks again to you George T, and your

team on the day.

Now back to Alan and Ron. To their credit (I always

try to look on the bright side) they did get the roof

flashing fitted and they even got the shed back into

position and anchored down to the concrete pad but….. have a look at the photo below and de-

cide if Alan getting six screws into sheet metal to fit the door lock really needed Ron’s supervi-

sion.

My comments are all in jest guys. Your efforts are very much appreciated and just to re-

assure those reading this that Ron did deserve all that cake he ate at morning tea, he gets all

the credit for his solo effort of weeding and raking the garden bed.

Our BBQ’s and exhaust fan filters got their regular clean up by Ernie and our favourite Busy Bee ladies, Vera and Di, spoiled all of us again with hamburgers and home-made cakes for morning tea. I look forward to seeing our regulars as well as some new faces at our next Busy Bee on Saturday 11 June 2016. Roy Richardson - 1st Rear Commodore

I acknowledge the Management Committee, members and staff for the positive and encouraging welcome that has been extended to me since I commenced at CPBA on 2nd May. The last month has been very busy familiarizing myself with how the club operates and to build a good understanding of policies and procedures currently in place. I have identified and commenced a number of projects and initiatives as part of an overall plan to increase club revenue and improve member facilities with the objective of ensuring a financially sustainable club with strong member support as we progress forward. I have detailed several of the larger exciting projects. Hard standing – plans have been drawn and quotes obtained to extend our current facility which can almost be filled by members on our hard standing waiting list. If you are interested in a hard standing bay and not already on our waiting list, please register your interest with the office. Wet Pens – plans are currently being prepared to substantially increase our number of wet pens with the pens being available for allocation on an annual renewable basis. The preferred club option is for the cost of construction and services to be funded by the members allocated the pens. Once the costs have been determined, expressions of interest will be requested from members interested in a wet pen at the club. In the meantime, if you are interested in a wet pen, please register your interest with the club and we will keep you informed as this project progresses. Food and Beverage – The club has an unrestricted club liquor licence and we are currently working on developing this area through building our members food and beverage facility and private functions to take advantage of our excellent panoramic views, secured parking and our unrestricted club liquor licence. Please keep an eye open for changes in this area and contact Cindy for further information on hiring our facility for a private function. Security is also high on the agenda with security cameras and lighting under review. The pedestrian gate adjacent to our main entry gate is now being kept locked. We have also increased the frequency of checking vehicles and boat trailers using our ramps to ensure our facilities are only being used by members. Please ensure you have your current club stickers and trailer plates attached to avoid being issued with a “Reminder Notice” by Thor. Your patience with this matter is appreciated. I would like to acknowledge member Gary Kellock who has donated the cost of an aluminium seating hub for the new gazebo adjacent to the ramps. Please support Gary’s business GK Trimmers. We have also negotiated an excellent price for 40 near new café tables and 150 chairs which will change the appearance of our first floor hospitality area. The existing round tables and chairs will be used for functions. Membership subscription invoices have been forwarded for the new financial year which commences on 1st July with payment due by 30th June. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

John Tissott

The SFG is conducting one of its annual fishing trips over the next two weeks. 11 boats from the Club are travelling to Coral Bay from Saturday 4th June to 18th June. Most boats will arrive in Coral Bay on Saturday. There has been much activity in preparing boats and preparing social and fishing activities to occupy approximately 40 CPBA members and families. Almost all the travellers have found accommodation at the rental housing accommodation in Coral Bay. We are looking for some fair weather and plenty of fish activity. One of the travellers, Mike Sanders with wife Meredith is the advance party and has already arrived in CB. Prior to CB Mike has been dabbling with the fishing around Dirk Hartog Island and the islands off Carnarvon – Dorre and Bernier. Here is a sample of his exploits: A group of 7 boats, mostly CPBA members spent 7 days and nights camping around Shark Bay’s Dirk Hartog island. People included Tim, Baldy, Barney, Clayton, Stuart, Tud, Will, Darcy, Paul , Trevor, Mike, Brody and several others. Fishing lines were wet from south of Steep Point to Dorre Island and many points in between. Night time saw the group rafting up in secluded and beautiful unspoilt bays. Fine cuisine was enjoyed by all. Turtles, Dugongs, Whales, Dolphins, all shared their company with us. Sharks there, were monsters, taking our catches. Fish species landed included – Pink Snapper, Blue Lined Emperor, Red Emperor, Estuary Cod, Baldchin Groper, Rankin Cod, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel; the list goes on. Only one quietly spoken fellow was subjected to any form of practical joking. Everyone arrived home after a great week. Sample of the catch photos attached. The SFG conducts one major fishing trip each year, next year it is the Mackerel Islands; and several beach fishing weekends through the year. Also the Group conducts a monthly competition held on the 3rd weekend of each month, weather dependant of course. These competitions are open to any CPBA members and are conducted on a designated area/species and open area rotation each month. A monthly meeting is held on the second Monday of the month at CPBA, next meeting will be June 20, due to CB trip. If you are interested come along, 7.30pm at the Club, hear about the Coral Bay adventure. Warren Keating Rusty Dax

Cruising

Hi Cruisers, The month of May has flown past with a few of you getting out and about, and sending me some of their trip info. I hope that your boat was tied down well over the high winds that we had, and you did not have any dam-age. My boat is still in the process of repair, with the new stainless steel tank is being made and the boat getting prepped for the fit out. One of our Cruiser couples have made it into the boat yard at the club, after a long wait. Jerry and Marry will now be able to launch quicker. Fishing in the Sound has been very productive Roy “Richo” son Brad caught a few very nice Pink Snapper just on dusk (see attached photo). Unfortunately for Roy, his catch has won the family fishing Trophy.

“Richo” is heading to Dongara to try and rectify this over the long weekend 6th of June. Speaking of the long weekend, I believe Dave, Jennie & Zoe were planning a trip to Mandurah over the long weekend. But weather beat them to it yet again. Steve K will have his boat up north, Rod & Robyn are going to Coral Bay. I wonder if they are taking “Miss Robbie”? Thank you Cruisers for sharing your trips and news with all of us, we will all try to join in next time. See you on the water (when I get my boat fixed….. L). \ Steve Imgrund….. Black Ice.

The 1st Wednesday in May was our bring your soup along day. The great soups arrived made by Marie Tony and Andrena and by Rex and Gloria.. my favourite was….. them all. A very nice lunch. May thanks to the cooks great job done. Many thanks to John Tissott for the talk he gave about the future planning at our club. It was a very interesting talk. We are all interested in what is going on there even though we don’t go boating anymore. In the past, we have all contributed one way or another. On a sad note, our thoughts go out to Doug Morrison for the loss of his wife. Our much loved friend Shirley will be missed by us all. Doug, I hope you enjoy the beautiful photo I have of you both in happier times. Next month will be Christmas in July ( not what we said on the 1st June). I will contact you all as to what goodies to bring. Till then my friends……. Love Delores
