“Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood, or consecrated life, there is always strong and intense prayer from someone, a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community. … Vocations are born in prayer and only in prayer can they persevere and bear fruit”…

Serrans on the Move Look who Ed and Candice Tyrrell met after Mass at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, North Whales, PA, church before leaving to the airport for Houston. The Tyrrell’s had been visiting Ed’s brother’s family. Seminarian Marco Casanova from St. Martha’s church in Kingwood attended a retreat at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in PA and loved the place so much he decided to enter their seminary. Candice recently had lunch with Fr. Richard McNeillie and he said we have been wondering how we can get him back. After Mass when greeting the Pastor, Msgr. Conway, and saying they were from Houston, the priest pulled them over to the other side of the Narthex to meet Marco! Divine intervention! Ed and Candice were very impressed upon meeting Marco, a young seminarian so filled with God’s joy!!

Father John Rooney - September 26, 2018 Speaker

Father John Rooney, Director of Spiritual Formation at St. Mary’s Seminary was the guest speaker at our monthly program on September 26, 2018. His presentation was very inspirational and enjoyable. Father Rooney also commented that he teaches a class to the Seminarians on Thomas Merton’s Priesthood. He provided us with an excerpt from Thomas Merton’s book, The Sing of Jonas p. 293:

The Whale’s Belly: Thomas Merton’s Priesthood

“The task of a priest is to spiritualize the world. He raises his consecrated hands and the grace of Christ’s resurrection goes out from him to enlighten the souls of the elect and of them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. Through his blessing material creation is raised up and sanctified and dedicated to the glory of God. The priest prepares the coming of Christ by shedding upon the world the invisible light that enlightens every man that comes into the world. Through the priest, the glory of Christ steeps out into creation until all things are saturated in prayer.” At the end of his presentation, Candice Tyrrell, District 10 Governor, and Ed Tyrrell, North Houston Serra Club President, presented Father Rooney with a Divine Mercy “I Trust In Him” bronze plaque from their pilgrimage at Mother Angelica’s Blessed Sacramento gift shop in Alabama to show our appreciation.

Prayer and Reflection...

Prayers from In Sinu Jesu

The Chaplet of Reparation or, Offering of the Precious Blood for Priests

This chaplet of reparation and intercession is meant to be prayed on an ordinary five decade rosary.

Incline (+) unto my aid, O God’ O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia. (After Septuagesima: Praise be to Thee, O Lord, King of eternal glory.) On the Our Father beads: Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Thy Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb without blemish or spot, in reparation for my sins and for the sins of all Thy priests. On the Hail Mary beads: By Thy Precious Blood, O Jesus purify and sanctify Thy priests. In place of the Glory be to the Father: O Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth is named, have mercy on all Thy priests, and wash them in the Blood of the Lamb. (see March 8, 2010)

Fellow Club of North Houston Serrans: It was great seeing many of you at our September meeting. Our guest speaker, Father John Rooney shared some inside baseball on his work as the Spiritual Director at St. Mary’s Seminary, where over 70 young men are discerning to become priests.
