Jesus’ Call to All: “Come and Follow Me”

In Gratitude for Fr. Tim Christy…..

So many of us could share a particular moment when Fr. Tim offered words

of prayer, encouragement in times of difficulty, or spiritual guidance which

has influenced our faith. The parish community of St Magdalen’s has been

blessed to have a pastor with such wisdom and faith in God.

With a strong devotion to our Mother Mary and a heart for evangelization,

Fr Tim has modeled in his own life what it means to trust in the Holy Spirit.

As pastor, Fr Tim has echoed the words of Benedict XVI by developing a

vibrant parish that embraces the richness of Catholic Tradition and encour-

ages discipleship for evangelization.

“I encourage all the faithful to renew their personal and communal encounter with Christ,

the word of life made visible, and to become his heralds….There is no greater priority than

this: to enable the people of our time once more to encounter God, the God who speaks to

us and shares his love so that we might have life in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10).

We offer our sincere prayers for Fr. Tim as he transitions into his new role as Vicar for Evangelization and

Communication in the Diocese of Metuchen.

Fr. Tim has taught our community that nothing is ever complete here on earth. We must have expectant faith

of how the Holy Spirit will continue to guide our parish under the leadership of our new pastor Fr Brighenti.

Our love and prayers remain with you Fr Tim,

St Magdalen De Pazzi Parish Community

“In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to

be evangelizers. It is a community of communities, a sanctuary where

the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of

constant missionary outreach. We must admit, though, that the call to

review and renew our parishes has not yet sufficed to bring them

nearer to people, to make them environments of living communion

and participation, and to make them completely mission-oriented.”

Uncomfortable in Silence

Why is Silence so uncomfortable? We have gone to great

pains in our modern world to replace silence with

background noise; whether it be in the car, at the gym, or

even while standing in an elevator. Yet what makes silence

so difficult for us? In the silence, we are alone with

ourselves and our thoughts. In our thoughts God speaks.

Perhaps we fear to think about our unanswered questions,

our unfulfilled desires, and our un-calmed fears. Yet, God’s

primary language is silence precisely because He uses such

questions to draw us to Himself. In Eucharistic Adoration

we can come before God with our questions, our desires,

and our fears and have no doubt that He will indeed speak

to us. Reality is not always pleasant to look upon yet when

we approach Jesus in the silence of prayer we are

practicing the virtue of fortitude. If we come before Him to

receive His words of truth, He will set us free from all fear

and anxiety.

Come let the Lord love you. Come be with the Lord.

Adoration Takes Place:

From after the 9:00 am Mass until 11:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday

From after the 9:00 am Mass until 7:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday

Overnight Adoration takes place Every First Friday of the month until 8am Mass

learning in the classroom in preparation for Confirmation.

Eucharistic Adoration

The Church is Apostolic

Main Message: Jesus established His Church and built

it upon the foundation of the Apostles.

Jesus lived on this earth for 33 years, yet He

preached and taught for only three of those years.

In the grand scheme of things, the number of

people He interacted with, taught, and healed was

relatively small. However, Jesus became incarnate,

not only for those who lived in Israel during His

lifetime, but for all of humanity. Therefore, Jesus

established a Church to continue His mission of

preaching, healing, and teaching. He established

His Church and entrusted it to His twelve apostles.

Once Jesus ascended into Heaven these same men

went out to the entire world to share what they had

learned from the Master. Today our Church is still

led by the successors of the apostles: bishops. For

over 2000 years the line of succession has never

been broken; the apostles ordained men to become

bishops and these men ordained others to become

bishops and priests to the present day. Through our

bishops and priests, Jesus leads and guides the

Church.

Evangelization and Mission

Encountering Christ

Saint of the Week

Encountering Christ

in Reconciliation

While we can encounter

GOD at many different

times in our lives, one

memorable encounter for

me was in the Sacrament

of Reconciliation many

years ago. I was in my

last year of law school

and had been recognizing GOD’s pull on my heart to

go to Confession. At that point, I hadn’t been to

Confession for over 10 years. It was a struggle for

me to go because it had been so long, and I hadn’t

been exactly living a life of virtue.

Though I didn’t realize it, GOD was gently and

patiently leading me to that point through several

different circumstances. While I resisted along

the way, He kept pursuing me. After several

months, I finally, through GOD’s grace, went to

Confession. Because it had been so long, I didn’t

even remember what to say and had to research it

before going, which also led me to make a very

thorough examination of my conscience. When

entering the confessional, GOD simply didn’t say,

“Good luck, I’ll see you when you’re done.” Rather,

I felt His presence with me throughout the entire

Confession. During my Confession, I was nervous,

ashamed, and embarrassed. As a result, I spoke so

softly that the priest patiently asked me to speak up

several times because he couldn’t hear me. Even in

my doubt and embarrassment, the LORD gave me

the strength to make an honest and complete

Confession. After hearing the beautiful words of

absolution from the priest, I felt like a weight was

lifted off my shoulders. However, it was more than

just a feeling. I had directly encountered GOD’s

infinite love and mercy for me at that moment.

Though it is difficult to fully describe, it revived my

whole life and my inspiration to grow closer to GOD.

I had peace and clarity again about my path in life. I

suddenly had more hope about my future and my

relationship with GOD, and that has continued to this

day, particularly during the times that I fall.

Wherever you are in your journey, ask GOD to

open your hearts to receive His mercy and love not

just through going to Confession, but in every aspect

of your lives.
