In Europe and everywhere else in the world, Coca-Cola operates as a domestic enterprise. As a local producer we are committed to serving the communities in which we operate. In Europe, The Coca-Cola Foundation has invested more than €30 million over the last four years in community projects. These programmes, some examples of which are illustrated here, include providing training and skills, the promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyle programmes, and environmental conservation. Coca-Cola & WWF

The Coca-Cola Company and WWF launched a transformational global partnership in 2007 to help conserve the world’s freshwater resources. Since then, local partnerships between Coca-Cola and WWF have worked to improve and protect water resources in ten European countries, including a major six-year programme on the river Danube, which was launched in 2014. In total, an estimated five million m3 of freshwater (or the volume of 2,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools) will be preserved or returned to nature.

Coca-Cola & EPODE

The OPEN project is co-funded by EPODE International Network thanks to a grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation. It will see eleven community initiatives from across Europe benefit from tailored support to extend their work to reduce childhood obesity by 2016. It aims to reach almost four million people across Europe, including 975,000 children and adolescents.

AUSTRIA

Coca-Cola Cup - Organised with the Austrian Football Federation, the cup gives over 2,000 children, teenagers, adults and families the chance to compete in a nationwide festival of football.

Neusiedler See - Working with WWF to help restore the Lange Lacke, one of the last rare natural soda lakes in Europe and a unique habitat, by closing drainage ditches and raising water levels.

BELGIUM

Mission Olympic - Three day event in partnership with the Belgian Olympic Committee offering 23,000 schoolchildren a chance to participate in Olympic sports at an international stadium.

Stappersveen - Working with NGO “Natuurpunt” to remove invasive vegetation and help restore natural water levels to support rare wildlife in a high-value nature reserve.

BULGARIA

Gym Parks - Investment in building playgrounds in communities local to the Coca-Cola bottling plant to encourage children to play outside and live healthier active lifestyles.

Lower Danube Green Corridor - Working with WWF to connect the transformed wetlands of a fish farm to the natural flood pulse of the River Danube.

CROATIA

Bistra Bike - An organised city bicycle ride to promote cycling as a healthy means of transport in urban areas, run in partnership with NGO “My Bike”.

Danube wetlands - Project to recreate five side arms of the Danube that will improve natural river dynamics and habitats, flood risk mitigation, ecotourism and recreation. And working on a cross-border project with Hungary to help restore the Barc-Old-Drava oxbow, a natural riverside lake.

CYPRUS

Mission Water - In 2014, eight grey water systems for non-potable uses were installed in public schools and a stadium. Education and awareness-raising campaigns about water conservation will also be promoted extensively during the coming three years.

Eat Well, Exercise Often, Live Well! - This primary school intervention programme promotes healthy nutrition and physical activity using a combined teacher-parent engagement approach. 2000 students participated in the Nicosia district’s school programme roll out.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Coca-Cola Cup - A national inter-school football competition promoting physical activity amongst teenagers run in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and the Czech Football Association.

DENMARK

#HappyMoves - This programme, run in partnership with the United Danish Athletic Associations (DGI), the largest national association for non-professional sportspeople, combines traditional and innovative sports with a focus on Body, Sense & Play. The programme is aimed at young people from 16-29 years old and seeks to promote exercise more effectively. The intention is that #HappyMoves will reach as many as 100,000 young Danes before 2020.

ESTONIA

DanceActive Estonia - Programme to promote active healthy lifestyles among young people and the inactive adult population by popularising dance and fitness trainings.

Seaside clean up Let’s Do It! - 100 volunteers from Coca-Cola and its partners participate in the “Let’s Clean Up Europe” day, held annually in May. The day was dedicated to the improvement of the Baltic marine environment and takes place at Pikakari Beach in Tallinn.

Finland

#MunLiike - An activity programme run in the month-long school holidays and organised by the Finnish Sports Confederation VALO in order to get 90,000 second grade students around Finland active during the break.

Muuvit - A programme financed by the Coca-Cola Foundation which aims to promote physical activity in schools and to motivate 50,000-70,000 school students to practice physical activity in daily school life. This successful programme has now also been extended to Germany.

FRANCE

Le sport ça me dit - Nationwide programme run in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and the French Olympic Committee designed to engage children who aren’t usually attracted to sport to participate in games that are fun and non-competitive.

Camargue - Project aimed at re-creating and improving hydraulic and biological exchanges between the old Rhône lagoons and the Mediterranean sea to improve freshwater flows and quality and protect the flamingo nesting areas.

GERMANY

Mission Olympic - Germany’s Most Active City is an inter-city competition to get cities moving with the aim of generating lasting interest in sports among their inhabitants.

Alte Elbe - Project to promote re-naturalisation and water storage improvement of former ponds within a biosphere reserve.

GREECE

Moderation-Balance-Variety - Support for a national health and wellness education programme in partnership with the Greek Ministry of Health to fight obesity in children.

Rainwater harvesting - Project which focuses on restoring traditional rainwater harvesting cisterns and installing new storage capacity for non-potable use on the water-stressed Cycladic Islands.

HUNGARY

Wake your Body - Umbrella programme for numerous sport and physical activities, also raising awareness around choice and energy balance. The programme is run since 2005. The programme is run in partnership with sport associations, local authorities and the State Secretary for Sports and is designed to encourage the broadest participation possible in terms of age, gender, physical fitness and ability. This award-winning programme has actively moved more than 3.2 million people in Hungary over the past nine years.

Barc-Old-Drava oxbow - Working on restoring the natural riverside lake on the left bank of the Drava River, in a cross-border project with Croatia, to increase the water storage capacity and habitat for wildlife.

IRELAND

Sport for Life - This Coca-Cola Foundation initiative runs after-school sports for primary school children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds to increase activity and health awareness. In partnership with the University of Ulster, the Foundation has invested extensively in impact and effectiveness research to be run alongside the programme.

ITALY

Coca-Cola Sport Village - Coca-Cola in Italy is highly engaged in the promotion of active lifestyles. As well as supporting over 80 sporting events in 2014 – moving about 530,000 people – thanks to the Coca-Cola Sport Village sporting activities and expert nutritionists appeared in unexpected locations, such as the Film Festival or local community events. The Village is also a great opportunity to inform and educate: Over 44,000 books and leaflets on healthy lifestyles and environmental issues were distributed in 2014.

LATVIA

Healthy nutrition programme in schools - Coca-Cola supports a healthy nutrition programme in Latvian schools, in cooperation with the Latvian Association of Dietary and Nutrition Specialists (LDUSA). Under the programme, nutrition specialists from the LDUSA educate secondary school pupils on healthy nutrition, moderation and healthy lifestyles. The programme also provides educational materials in order to reach pupils that don’t attend LDUSA’s lectures.

Gauja riverside cleaning - Working with WWF, over 50 volunteers from Coca-Cola Latvia, together with their family members, participated in the Clean the Beach event near the river Gauja in Valmiera in May 2014. During the day participants sowed new lawn, worked in the beach volleyball courts, collected waste in forests and built a shelter for visitors on the river coast.

LITHUANIA

Education Programme on Healthy Nutrition and Active Lifestyle for Schools (“Sveikatiada“) - Run in cooperation with NGO “Maisto Bankas” (Food Bank), the goal of this project is to promote calorie management and active lifestyles to schoolchildren via a special education programme that will be integrated into the official school curriculum. During the school year, seven monthly activities are offered to the schools such as: “European day of healthy food and cooking”; “Breakfast fiesta” and “Morning exercise”. The number of participants has reached over 50,000 participants per year and the programme is well regarded by key state institutions, health stakeholders and parents.

We are for clean sea - This marine litter prevention campaign is organised in cooperation with the Lithuanian Environment ministry, the Palanga municipality and NGO “Let’s Do It”. It seeks to raise awareness of the issue of marine litter in the Baltic sea and encourage preventative actions. At the main event, 15 divers, supported by volunteers from Coca-Cola along with local people, worked to clean one of the gates to the Baltic Sea – the Šventoji river port. The campaign also educates the local community about the importance of recycling waste and how to recycle properly.

LUXEMBOURG

Footexperience - Now in its 10th year this annual series of tournaments is run across the nine provinces of Belgium and Luxembourg with nine winners cups up for grabs. The focus is on enjoying being a part of a team, having fun, encouraging fair play and promoting associated benefits of playing sport together.

NETHERLANDS

Olympic Moves - Annual event in which secondary school students of all sporting abilities take part in 18 different sports for a place in the national final at the International Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.

POLAND

Leader Sports Animator - Subsidy programme aimed at local sports organisers which offers financial and substantive support for the development of local sport initiatives. The programme supports projects which reflect the real needs of local people; as such even small grant sums, combined with the dedication of the organisers, are sufficient to encourage a lot of people to take up physical activity. To date the programme has supported nearly 80 sports initiatives reaching over 180,000 people.

Coca-Cola Cup - The oldest and one of the largest football tournaments for young people in Poland which has been organised every year since 1999. In its sixteen editions so far, more than 650,000 girls and boys from across Poland have taken part and the Coca-Cola Cup has given many promising young footballers their first taste of success. Many have gone on to develop their skills on Polish and European pitches, including Bayern Munich star, Robert Lewandowski, who today is an ambassador of the tournament.

PORTUGAL

Coca-Cola Cup - A national festival of football that tours ten cities across Portugal from March to May with the final matches played at an international stadium.

Powerade Runs and Marathons - Powerade supports running events across Portugal from competitive marathons to charity runs.

ROMANIA

I want to grow healthy - An educational programme, supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation, which aims to educate children and their parents about the importance of a balanced lifestyle by fostering healthy eating habits and regular exercise. The educational materials have been developed in coordination with a Scientific Council consisting of the most well-known nutritionists, civil society groups and policy-makers and have been endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Education.

Girla Mare - Project to connect the transformed wetlands of a fish farm to the natural flood pulse of the River Danube.

SLOVAKIA

Coca-Cola Cup - National school football competition that fosters young players’ interest in football by offering them opportunities to meet peers from other parts of the country.

Don’t be Lazy - Supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation, this education campaign runs interactive seminars for teenagers and students aged 12+.

SLOVENIA

Day of Fair Play - A variety of sports and social events held in various sports parks, playgrounds and courts across Slovenia. Run by the Institute of Sport Development with the Slovenian Olympic Committee, the programme has an explicit message around fair play, tolerance, peace and friendship.

Water Forever - Water Forever is a series of twelve amateur kayaking events in Slovenian rivers, to raise awareness about the importance of water. It has been running since 2008 and is for all activity levels, abilities and ages.

SPAIN

Coca-Cola Cup Tennis - The aim of Coca-Cola Cup Spain is to offer young players the chance to practise and train to be champions. In collaboration with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation and run through local tennis clubs, both boys and girls compete in individual and doubles tournaments.

Water storage - Working to save and preserve the rare wetlands of Las Tablas del Dalmiel by improving water storage capacity and reducing agricultural water use; capturing rainwater and recharging depleted aquifers and wetlands in Castellon.

SWEDEN

Clean the Beaches - Clean the Beaches invites over 300 local sports clubs to help clean up their beaches in exchange for new sports equipment. Participants not only get active on the day (exploring and clearing their local community) but are able to use the equipment given to them in exchange to sustain their activity levels.

Simma Sverige - Programme inviting over 300 local sports clubs. It aims to get more people physically active through swimming and to raise awareness of the importance of life long swimming ability. Almost 27,000 Swedes have been reached through this programme during 2014.

UNITED KINGDOM

StreetGames - Sports charity StreetGames delivers sport, dance and other physical activities to the doorsteps of the UK’s most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Aimed at teenagers, StreetGames makes sport accessible, local, educational and free to communities that otherwise have limited or no access to it.

Chalk Stream Replenishment - Coca-Cola is working on the unique chalk stream rivers Nar and Clay to help improve water quality and wildlife habitat, while reducing soil erosion and pollution. The project has also restored the natural river flow on a stretch of the river Nar.

Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives - A long-term programme of informal, fun, free activities offered for six months of the year in the heart of local communities – the parks. Delivered in partnership between Coca-Cola Great Britain and local authorities, the sessions are open to all ages and abilities with particular appeal to families and young people. The focus is enjoyment and sociability, providing a varied programme of activities from Zumba to Tai Chi, rounders and table-tennis.
