Homage to Incredible India!

India is our theme for the February General Meet-ing. Since I must travel abroad the week of the February GM, I hope you will enjoy the program we have organized for you.

I take this opportunity to share with you my thoughts of Incredible India on my recent trip to Gujarat and Maharashtra regions. I would like to pay homage to this magnifi cent country of beau-tiful people. From Gujarat to Maharashtra, I expe-rienced a spectacular kaleidoscope of sights and sounds of India. There is no country which encap-sulates diversity so perfectly!!

There are places in our world that when we visit, get into your heart and never leave. For me, India is such a place. Last month was my fi rst visit and I know there will be many more...

My visit with Rotary Club International could not have been a better way to see India and how much people are engaged in Charity works. Every-one has access to some of the best clinics without pay, orphanages are modest yet run so effi cient-ly due to donations, every business is involved in impressive charity fundraisings.

We had the honour and privilege to experience everyday Indian life, living in the homes of amaz-ing hosts. I know this trip has changed my life - the impact was great, understanding that you do not need much to make you happy; the gener-

osity, sincerity, simplicity, humbleness, kindness, positivity, love they showed towards us is beyond what I imagined.

I love India because:

I have never seen so many smiling faces, such grace and kindness yet so much vibrant energy and colours.... colours everywhere.

I was stunned by the richness of the land, exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with intensity of colors, smells, tastes, and sounds. It was as if all my life I was seeing the world in black and white. With India, I experienced it in bright technicolors.

India taught me to appreciate the simple things in life.

With so much diversity you never get bored, it must take a lifetime to see and experience all of India!

Only in India, I saw that God is omnipresent and in every form – a tree, a cow, a shrine on a cross-road, a spiritual person… There is a God in India for every affi nity and a festival for every occasion.

I love the Bollywood movies and their upbeat songs

Everyday is an adventure. No matter whether it’s a street market, festival, temple, park or offi ces, you know that your day will be fi lled with sensory overload of colours, humanity, sounds and smells.

Where else in the world will strangers open their

homes and lives to us with so much love that you never want to leave? The kindness of Indian peo-ple is very humbling.

For its peace as well as chaos, its wealth as well as destitute, it is raw and imperfect yet so real and beautiful but all this is ok…

India teaches you to worry less, to go with the fl ow, to let go the need to understand and explain everything.

The Indian head wobble is quite confusing at fi rst - it could mean yes, no, maybe, I don’t know… just makes no sense but with time we all made sense out of it, it even became infectious and we found ourselves doing the head wobbling too…

India is the soul of the world. Everything is possi-ble in India! A truly inspirational Incredible India!

Thank you India! I will never forget you! I will be back… !

to another wonderful culinary experience at the traditional restaurant “k Gabrek” in Samobor.

Day Trip to Rude

In ancient times, while the Miners were still min-ers and their wives worked in the fi eld and kept the treasures for children, the story of the salty cake began, which is today the trademark of any mining home. In modest households of the time, this cake was used as a main course, available to the poorest,

and was named after a scallop, a wooden tool that used to spread ashes in a bread oven.

Often the only snack of modest miners today is a specialty that not only Rude but also neighbour-ing Samobor take pride in .

Dear members,

Lots of plans for the future activities were made in Janu-ary! Thank you all who contacted me with the new pro-posals and ideas.

As you learned from our Weekly Bulletin, a visit to The In-stitute for the Palliative Care took place on February 4th (for our new members, the Institute was the 2018/2019 Christmas bazaar benefi ciary). More information about the visit will be shared during the General meeting.

Busy people from the “Mali zmaj” association are already making huge changes at their Center, thanks to the pro-ceeds from the 2019 IWCZ Christmas bazaar: new fl oor-ing, new tiles, educational types of equipment, and toys. We are trying to arrange the visit for our members to the

Center in the near future. Also, “Mali zmaj” is running diff erent workshops for unprivileged children, and they are always looking for volunteers. If you are interested, please let me know.

If you do have some leftover paper napkins, pieces of fabrics, some broken fashion jewelry, paper towel rolls, beads or whatever could be used as an art material, please bring it to the next General meeting, or to the IWCZ offi ce during offi ce hours. We are collecting this for the Art workshops at the Rebro hospital, aimed for the patients with mental health issues. Thank you!

As always, if you would like to host the charity event or if you do know about the charity that we might help, please let us know.

He was 31 years old, active in sports and properly fed, but he died of ruptured aortic heart. At the hospital I received information that Renato had congenital heart defect for which we did not know because he always felt well - healthy.

I decided to form an humanitarian association “Re-nato - cooks without borders” which will bring to-gether fellow chefs from around the world.

Humanitarian association „Renato – chefs with-out borders“ gathers fellow chefs from around the world. The primary goal of the association is to en-able all children echocardiography, and especially those with lower income, in order to provide an early detection if there is congenital heart disease.

Also, the goal is to encourage parents to react in time and provide echocardiography their children. Anyone who wants their child to make an ultra-sound of the heart, can occur in the Association for help, and the Association’s work would make it possible to carry out the same in the minimum time.

The regular time for echocardiography in the public health system is waiting for several months, also examination can be done only in some hospitals and in private practice it is possible to do it within a few days for a fee of 80 euros.

The Association will made echocardiography free, in the way that Association will bear the costs of in-spection. The Association funds will be collected by organizing charity dinners for various organizations,

needs of business partners, various businesses and other institutions. The funds collected Association will use primarily for the achievement of the primary objectives for which it was founded, but also for other goals which are:

1. Humanitarian actions, training, workshops and other types of activities in order to promote voca-tions chefs and preserve the reputation of the pro-fession and gastronomy both to children and adults 2. Encouraging education, development and train-ing of future generations in the profession of chefs. Association will help each child with socially disad-vantaged status through education, who wants to study for the chef, whether it will through the pur-chase of books, help with the acquisition of practice or the cost of education and the similar assistance.

„If we save one child, we have done a lot. If Renato made ultrasound at the time, might have been alive today“ – says Branko Ognjenović

Th e POY method allows us to fi nd a solution even when we do not seem to have it. POY allows us to use both brain hemispheres to gain insight into the full potential of what is already inside us ... a tool that brings us a new way of thinking about a problem or topic we want to solve. Th ey help us to change the perspective, the perspective we have towards the problem, and thus see us towards the solution. Th ese changes happen when we look at a photo and a word at the same time. Because photography activates the right creative part of the brain and the word activates the left analytical part of the brain .... all in all a very interesting and successful workshop.

gas lamps

Gas lamps were first introduced in Zagreb in 1863. Today, more than 200 of them are still in

use. A lamp lighter lights them in the evening and

dims them in the morning. Zagreb is one of only three

European cities to have kept this tradition alive.

There are around 4,500 cafés and restaurants in Zagreb. This

makes a ratio of 1 café to every

175 inhabitants.

According the 2011census, there are 790,000 people

living in Zagreb. This makes up 18.5% of

Croatia's population.

Zagreb museums

contain more than 3,6 million

exhibits.

meet me under the clock! The most popular local meeting spot is "under the clock" on the

main square. In a family tradition that goes back six generations, all of the city’s clocks are maintained

by the Lebarović watchmaking firm. Zagreb’s first municipal clocks came from Austria. They were later

made locally, but in a style that resembled those from Vienna.

zagreb funicularThe Zagreb funicular is the

world's shortest cable railway used for public transport. The 64-second ride covers

a distance of 66 meters.
