PROGRAM HOURS (1st grade+)Mon-Fri,6:30am-6:00pm•Drop-InHours(6thgrade+)Mon-Fri,3:00pm-6:00pm

MISSIONOur mission is to inspire and enable the healthy development of all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring members of our community.

1st GRADE & UPThe Boys & Girls Club is a recreation program offering supervised activities under the guidelines of the State of California, Department of Social Services. These guidelines are posted in the office.

To participate in the recreation program, children must be members of the Boys & Girls Club. Children enrolling in 1st grade and up in Fall 2014 are eligible to join. Children not meeting the age requirements may participate in the Learning Center Child Development Preschool or Robert Mayer Child Development Preschool program for ages 6 weeks-5 years. See pages 24-27 for details.

DAILY PROGRAM ACTIVITIESOur daily schedule offers children many different activities to choose from. With so much to do, children are constantly busy making new friends and having fun! The highly qualified and enthusiastic staff supervise activities while encouraging children to play fairly and safely.

Ourprogramdiffersfrommostduetoitsdiverserangeofexcitingactivities, includingsports, arts and crafts, computers, educational activities, cooking, indoor and outdoor games, relays, tournaments, contests, field trips, games room, special event days, and much, much more! For more details, see pages 6-17 and be sure to pick up a weekly calendar in our office.

AGES 11 & UPThis program is designed for youth ages 11 and up and in grades 6+ as of Fall 2014. We plan special activities, community service projects, fun field trips and events to help build friendships, develop leadership qualities, build self-esteem and have fun! Check the weekly calendars for special events. For more details, see page 12.

DROP-IN PROGRAMParticipation in this program is for members ages 11 and up and grades 6+. The Drop-In Program allows members to participate in all programs between the hours of 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday for only the cost of annual Club membership ($15). Additional fees required for field trips and special programs.

School Age Program Description School Age Program Safety

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATIONYour child’s safety is our top priority. Please review the following safety information and rules and talk about them with your child.

When your child is participating at the Club in a program area, they are within eyesight of a staff member. This is not the case for closed activity areas. Kids can tell when a room is closed because the door is closed and the lights are off. Not every program area at the Club is open 100% of the day. Forexample, theartsandcraftsroomorgymnasiummayclosebecausewestaffourfacilitiesbasedon the number of children in the building. Closing some rooms helps keep kids together and well-supervised in the open rooms. Children must be taught to not enter rooms that are closed. As in schools and most facilities running programs for youth, staff are not positioned in the restroom. Staff members at the Boys & Girls Club do regular checks of the restrooms throughout the day, but there is no adult supervision 100% of the time in the restroom.

Parents can help the Club make sure their children are always safe by reinforcing the following rules:• Do not enter a closed activity area. Doors closed and lights off are key indicators of a

closed area.• Areas of the building that are not part of the program area should also be considered

“closed” and off limits, like corners of the building, stairways, ramps, etc.• Do not enter or linger in closed program areas.• Do not linger or play in the restroom. Enter the restroom, do your business and leave.• Never enter a closed program area or bathroom stall with another Club member or adult.

Closed areas are just that: CLOSED. Stalls are for one person at a time only.• Tell a staff member immediately:

- If a Club member or adult asks you to enter a closed program area or bathroom stall. - If you ever see Club members in a closed program area or more than one child in a

restroom stall. - If anything ever makes you feel scared, unsafe, or uncomfortable.

Please review the Club’s safety brochure, available in the front office, for more helpful tips about keeping your child safe at the Club and at home. Most importantly, make sure your child is comfortable talking to you about anything that might be on their mind.

Preschool Philosophy & CurriculumCHILD DEVELOPMENT PRESCHOOLS’ MISSION STATEMENTOur mission is to inspire and enable the healthy development of all young children, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring members of the community. We strive to provide an age appropriate environment that will enhance the child physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally. To achieve this mission, we have implemented a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for each child’s needs and abilities.

PHILOSOPHYThe Learning Center Child Development Preschool and the Robert Mayer Child Development Preschool provide opportunities for children to develop emotionally, socially and physically. Webelieveinanatmosphereinwhicheachchildisrespectedandfreetoexperimentandinvestigate, free to have individual ideas, and free to master those ideas in a planned environment. Children learn the pleasures of doing things for themselves, and thus develop a positive self-concept. Our program sets limits to help children learn safety, value of property and respect for the rights of others. We do not attempt to bring about quick changes. Rather, webelievethatwithparentcooperation, positivelearningexperienceswillestablishafoundationfor each child’s personal achievement.

Your Donations Help Families Break

the Welfare CycleYou can make a difference to families like hers by giving a $10 donation. To have a $10 donation to the Club added to your phone bill, text GIVE 11756 to 80088.

Thanks to donations from generous people like you, the Club offers a scholarship program so that every family that needs the Boys & Girls Club can afford it. One mom writes:

“As a single and working mother, without the scholarship, I am unable to pay for alternate childcare. Therefore, I would be unable to go to work and I would have to stay home and depend on welfare, which is the one thing I do NOT want. Deep down in my heart, the scholarship is so helpful for my family.”
