Objectives of the workshop

•  To understand the on-going gender mainstreaming initiatives of the different work packages in the project 

• To strengthen and harmonise the gender strategy  adopted by different partners to achieve the common objectives and goal 

• To prepare the gender action plan for the proposed activities of the different work packages and 

• Revisit the indicators that have developed to measure the project results with gender perspective.

Introductions - I FEEL LIKE A ….

• Think of the animal you most identify with.• Describe the animal and say why you identify with it. You should also give your names and describe any other personal characteristics you might wish to share with the group.

Gender and Climate Change

• Gender is not ONLY about women .. It also includes men … it is the social relationship between the two

• differences in relation to land and resource rights, and opportunities to participate in and influence decision-making processes. 

• Women and men play different roles in community conservation efforts

• vulnerability is differentiated by gender

What needs to be done

• Empowerment of women and men in planning and decision making as well as implementing measures

• Women and men understand the process of climate change, and share information on counteracting its negative impacts

• Women have equal access to knowledge, resources and technology

Gender related activites carried out under different work packages

• Sit in your WP groups.• In the group, share the various activities that you are currently undertaking in relation to gender

• According to each activity, share the information on the following:– Why did it work?– What is (resources – human, financial etc) required in order to

make it work– Was there a policy environment that helped it work? – What were the challenges faced? How did you respond?– How did the community respond?

• Next Step ………..Sharing with the others … Plenary 

Gender - Implementation and upscaling levels

• Sit in groups of 4-5• Each group is assigned 1 technology under implementation – 

Farming Practices; Soil; Water; Information and Insurance Services• Discuss and note down based on the following questions: 

– What did you do?– How did you do it? List the steps– Who were the main participants- How did you involve then?– When did you do it?– What was the outcome? Both positive and negative – How did you monitor it? – What changes came about in the life of women? – How did the men respond?
