Chris Halke, CAD/CAM Supervisor, sets up a BruxZir® mill job. When the lab moved into its new facility, almost tripling its space, it purchased two new BruxZir mills. It now has three BruxZir milling systems, two Roland DWX-50 milling systems and a Sirona inLab MC XL unit, Roland JWX-10 wax mill, EnvisionTec 3Dent printer, EnvisionTec P4 printer, an Objet Eden 350 printer, three 3Shape D700 scanners and two 3Shape D800 scanners. “Unlike our old facility, the mills and printers are now in separate rooms,” says Albensi. “Now this area has a better workflow and structure to it, so it seems much bigger than before.”
The ceramics department. Albensi got a lot of feedback from his department managers and technicians regarding their needs for a productive work area. “Everybody feels like they had a part in the design, and who better to have a say than the people who work in the lab,” says Albensi.

Although the lab hired a moving com-pany to transport administrative desks and supplies, Albensi asked for volun-teers to move all the lab-related equip-ment on a Saturday after the old build-ing closed; everything was unpacked on
Sunday. “I asked people to come in to set up their workstations and almost everyone joined in to help. We provided lunch for the whole group and it turned into a real team-building exercise,” says Albensi.
The new facility opened in May. Con-struction took just over four months and cost $1.5 million. “Because we rent out half the building, the cost of owning the new place is comparable to renting our old location. We still have room to grow and now we’re able to give our laboratory a facility it deserves,” says Albensi. “It’s a wonderful and exciting way to celebrate our 35th anniversary.”
