Martin K. Schmid, CDTTRAINER, BEGO USA

Martin Schmid was born in Oberhausen, Germany. Influenced by his two older brothers, a dentist and a master dental technician, he chose to pursue a career as a dental technician. Martin studied and trained in Düsseldorf where he practiced various techniques such as crown and bridge, porcelain, full and partial dentures. Thereafter, Martin taught porcelain courses for VITA in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In 1993, Martin joined BEGO as North America’s Director of Educational Services. He is also the owner of European Dental Arts - a precision dental laboratory in Massachusetts. Martin is highly skilled in the areas of porcelain, milling, attachment cases and partial denture design.

Porcelain Course

July 29-30, December 9-10 This course compliments the C&B Course

This course offers an excellent hands-on experience for the crown and bridge technician. Learn how to layer or press porcelain. This course compliments the C&B course, where the metal copings have been produced.

Designing C&B Traditionally & Digitally

July 27-28, September 24-25, December 7-8 This course compliments the Porcelain Course

BEGO’s new 2 Day Crown & Bridge course will review the fundamental needs of the crown and bridge department for today and tomorrow. The course instructor will point out many helpful techniques that will bring consistency to your traditional waxing, sprueing, investing and casting. New sprueing techniques, controlling investment expansions, and understanding what your castings are telling you will be highlighted.

This program will also take the fundamentals and apply them to CAD designed copings, bridges, and full contour restorations. The course will take you through scanning & designing to understanding the proper parameter settings in the design software.

This hands-on course will help you to trouble shoot your C&B department and will give you some “exciting” insights of CAD/CAM in the dental laboratory world. Combine this course with BEGO’s porcelain course, which is scheduled right after this one.

In the afternoon of the second day, participants can attend the “Infection Control Seminar” to receive their one-hour of Documented Regulatory Standards required for CDT’s by the NADL.

Designing C&B Digitally Only

February 5-6, March 25-26, April 27-28

During this 2-day hands-on course, participants will digitally design 3 units that will be fabricated in the SLM (Selective Laser Melting) technology. The course will point out the importance of the parameter settings, margin detection and other helpful hints when dealing with digital units. During the second segment of the course, the units will be prepared to apply porcelain to one coping. Detailed attention will be given to the stain and glaze procedures.

In the afternoons of the second day, participants can attend the “Infection Control Seminar” to receive their one hour of Documented Regulatory Standards required for CDT’s by the NADL.

Milling and Attachment May 13-15, November 2-4

BEGO’s Milling and Attachment course is an intense, hands-on instructional program in advanced milling education. Milling design theory, precision milling mechanics, retention and guide plane milling will be reviewed. Program includes conical designs and telescopic crowns, drilling and pegging for the grove-shoulder-peg technique, and instruction with the advanced Paraskop milling unit This course is a great supplement for any Wironium® PRA® laboratory.

Pressing Over BEGO SLM Frameworks TBD

Conducted by Jörg Müller, MDT and Martin Schmid, CDTDuring this hands-on course, Jörg Müller, MDT will present his unique technique for press over metal. Participants will learn critical information from split file digital designs and machined wax output, through investing, pressing, finishing, staining, and glazing. Today's updated Press-to-Metal materials and digital options offer an efficient way to increase consistency and truly manage most labor intense cases in the dental laboratory.

Master RPD Course by BEGO and Ivoclar April 13-14, June 8-9, October 12-13 (Sarasota, FL)

Martin Schmid CDT (BEGO) and Jay Sober CDT (Ivoclar) will be the instructors for this special hands on course, where we will design one upper RPD, fabricate it in Wironium and see how to process it on the second day with Ivoclar’s acrylic. Tooth and denture base tinting will be covered as well. We will design each case individually, while utilizing the matrix and the teeth in place (blue print).

Furthermore, each student will have the opportunity to draw/create a design on 3 challenging cases! At the end, each participant will leave with one state of the art "showcase" and some new ideas for the RPD department.

Designing Removable Partial Dentures Digitally

July 23-24

During this 2 day course, participants will learn how to design RPD's digitally. BEGO offers technicians to utilize a 3 Shape or Dental Wings System. This course will cover major connector and clasp designs, defined finishing lines as well as a hands-on demonstration about proper sprueing, investing and casting. One framework will be invested with BEGO’s shock heat RPD investment and casted in the premium RPD alloy Wironium®.

PRA (Partial Denture) Course

March 18-20, October 21-23

BEGO is proud to offer its famed Precision Removable Appliance training course (PRA). Expand your knowledge of RPD’s through hands-on training and step-by-step fundamentals incorporating the Wironium® System. A short demonstration on the Dental Wings (DW) design software for RPD’s will be provided upon request.
