Introduction & Highlights

All students receiving a bachelor’s degree from July 2014 to June 2015 were surveyed (total = 460). The initial round of data was collected via the web beginning in January 2016. Nonrespondents were then contacted via paper mailings. Additional data was obtained by locating the graduates’ LinkedIn or other online profiles, by additional communications with the graduates, or by educational data obtained from the National Student Clearinghouse. Data collection ended in June 2016, with information ultimately found for 370 graduates (80%).

Highlights of the data acquired include: • 80% response rate to the First Destination Survey (370/460 students), breaking the previous year’s

record of 72%• 89.6% of graduates are employed full time, performing volunteer service (Peace Corps,

AmeriCorps, etc), military service, or pursuing additional education full time

• 62.4% employed full time

• 22.7% pursuing additional education full time

• 3.1% full time volunteer service

• 1.4% military service

Hamline Schools

Employment Status

Graduate data gathered from Pipers of the College of Liberal Arts, the Hamline School of Business, and the Hamline School of Education indicates that the majority of respondents attended the College of Liberal Arts (310 students or 83%) with the School of Business contributing 68 or 18% of graduates. The School of Education made up almost 3% accounting for 10 individuals.

*Students with majors in more than one school were counted twice.

The majority of Pipers (224) are employed full-time and make up 62.4% of respondents. Employed part-time are 74 graduates or 20.6% of the polled class while 31 (8.6%) are not currently employed and not seeking employment. Fourteen individuals (3.9%) are currently unemployed and seeking a job position. Additionally, 11 graduates (3.1%) are participating in volunteer services or unpaid internships and 5 Pipers (1.4%) participate in some form of military service.

Education Status

Types of Employment

A total of 69.7% of the graduates, 258 Pipers, are not currently pursuing additional education after completing their undergraduate degrees at Hamline University. Of the students pursuing additional educational, 84 of them (22.7%) are full-time students and 28 (7.6%) are part-time students. A sample of the institutions they are attending and degrees these Pipers are seeking is listed on page 7.

Two hundred and twenty-two graduates with full-time positions responded with information detaling their types of employment. The majority of those graduates, 132 or 59.5% are employed in the private sector. The next greatest occupied field was education with 30 graduates (13.5%), closely followed by the 29 Pipers (13.1%) working in health care. Nonprofit and government positions were similarly close in numbers with 14 graduates (6.3%) and 13 graduates (5.9%) respectively.

Salary Range Information

Job Satisfaction

Survey results indicate that the highest number of graduates, 24.1% (32 students), are paid in the $30,001 to $40,000 range. Those paid between $20,001 and $30,000 constitute 23.3% of Pipers (31 students). Earning $40,001 to $50,000 are 19.5% of Pipers (26 students) while 15% of graduates (20 students) are in the $50,001 to $60,000 annually bracket. Only 10.5% graduates (14 students) earn between $1 and $20,000. Additionally, 3.8% of respondents (5 students) each report earning either $60,001 to $70,000 or more than $70,000 a year.

89.9% of Pipers employed full-time are ‘Very Satisfied’ or ‘Satisfied’

with their current position.
