CLASS 7 ENGLISH LESSON PLAN Date : Monday 29th June Lesson # 8 Topic : Imagery Time 45 minutes Imagery Imagery is when we write about objects, actions and ideas in a way that appeals to our physical senses. Imagery often includes similes or metaphors. Look at the following examples : It was dark in the forest. (sight) The geese cackled in the yard. (hearing) The scent of jasmine filled the night air. (smell) The girl let the soft, silk run through her hands. (touch) The fresh juice was cold and sweet. (taste) Exercise 1. Match the sense with the imagery. a) The old man sifted the seeds through his fingers. b) The starry night begged him to linger. c) A stone fell with a splash into the lake. d) The blind man felt the smooth bark of the beech tree. e) The drums in the torrid distance were menacing. f) We followed the aroma of coffee brewing. g) The silence in the woods was unnerving. h) Salt spray lashed her face. Exercise 2. Write at least 5 sentences, addressing each of the 5 sentences. Possible things to write about are : Bells ringing/traffic/the wind/moonlight/ flowers/birds/food and drink/stars/ sunset/dawn/people laughing, crying, sneezing etc. Exercise 3. Imagine you are in one of the following: The woods at night On a beach High up a mountain Write about everything that appeals to the five senses.
