Students will have access to living areas during acceptablehours.International leaders are accommodated in twin rooms. Ifinternational leaders book a single room, a single roomsupplement will be charged at the time of booking andreserved based on availability.Valid reasons must accompany a request for change ofaccommodation and each request is considered on its ownmerits. Such changes are also subject to availability.Students must pay for any transport costs, additionalaccommodation charges and cancellation fees (whereapplicable). These additional charges must be paid in full priorto the move. EC is happy to assist students witharrangements for any justifiable accommodation changes.

Twin/triple room, shared bathroom, full board

Bed linen and towels are provided by the homestay provider.Students must bring their own beach towel. Linen and towelswill be cleaned once a week.

The family will do one loaded laundry per week.

Free wifi is available at school.

Students must keep their room neat and tidy.Students must not be noisy or disturb other members of thehousehold.Curfew times must be respected by all students.The homestay provider must be told well in advance ifstudents are not going to be there for dinner, or if they havean activity which conflicts with their dinner.Students who are not residing at the homestay provider arenot allowed to stay overnight. Students must ask thehomestay provider for permission to have a friend visit themat the family home.Students are liable for any damages/breakages caused whilststaying at the homestay provider. The School will advise ofany payments due, no money should be given directly to thehomestay provider.The homestay provider may have specific house rules thatwill be communicated on arrival and must be abided by.

Full board

Tea/coffee, toast, jam and cereal.

Packed Lunch: This is given to the students at school, itconsists of a baguette, a sandwich or a wrap, a desert and abottle of water (500ml).

A hot meal, for example:pasta/chicken/beef/pork/pizza/hamburgers, mineral water anddessert/fruit.

Special dietary requirements may be accommodated subject toavailability and a weekly fee.

WaterTemperatures in Malta are quite high and students therefore,need to drink plenty of water. Whilst water is provided duringmeals, students will be expected to buy bottled water at othertimes, during activities and school. It is important to take thisinto account when evaluating the amount of pocket moneyneeded.

EC Malta, St. Julian's

All schools provide a safe and comfortable environment whichis highly conducive to English language learning. Each schoolhas a dedicated academic co-ordinator, and all schools are fullyair-conditioned, which is ideal during the hot summer months.

Course: General English20 lessons per week (a total of 15 hours)1 lesson = 45 minutes

The course will help improve English language skills byfocusing on the key areas: reading, writing, speaking andlistening. A strong focus is placed on speech and using thelanguage confidently and fluently.Our dedicated and professional teaching staff providefeedback and support, and help students build confidence tospeak English.Lessons will possibly follow a Double Banking or morning onlytimetable.

The first day of school is very important. Students are picked upfrom their bus stop at the time indicated on their programme. The programme clearly states the date and time that thestudent has to be at school for the placement test. This mayvary according to the number of students starting their courseon that day. Students must be PUNCTUAL to ensure that theallocation process of students to classrooms/levels runssmoothly. All students are entitled to use the EC school busservice.

Students take a placement test on the first day. This assessesstudents in listening, reading, writing and use of English,allowing academic staff to place students in the relevant groupfor their ability.

Attendance to class is compulsory unless there is a justifiedreason for absence. In case of a student falling ill, an EC staffmember will provide assistance.

15 students per class

Students are transported to school and activities on a privateEC bus. The average journey time to school is 30 minutes.

Educational materials are provided. Students should bring theirown notepaper and pens.

Malta International Airport: Approx. 40 min

*Please note that packages include accommodation for 7nights per week; thus arrival on a Saturday and departure on aSunday will incur an extra night's fee.

SAMPLE PROGRAMME

Please note: This is a sample programme and changes may occur.*Homestay students may spend their free evening with their hosts.

Indicates linked activity which allows students to practise what they learnt in class that day.

Any lessons / activities missed will not be made up.

Lessons will alternate daily between morning and afternoon.

Optional Student Insurance is now being offered in all destinations.

EC must be advised upon booking of any medical conditions, allergies or medication that needs to be administered to students.

Students must have adequate health, accident and travel insurance while attending any of our programmes. The insurance must beacquired prior to their arrival.

European students travelling with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are entitled to free public healthcare. Non EU nationalswill be charged for public health care. The hospital will ask then to leave a deposit of €100 upon admittance (subject to change); withany additional amounts due to be paid prior to departure.

Students requesting private medical treatment must be prepared to pay approximately €25 to see a doctor; this must be paid at thetime of their visit. The doctor's certificate and the payment receipt will be given to the student, who must keep the documents andensure that they are kept safe.

On free evenings only : 11pmOn evening with EC activity : Student must join the activityand curfew is on return from the activity.

The legal age for smoking in Malta is 18 years. Smoking is NOTallowed at any time.

The consumption and/or possession of any illegal drugs willresult in the immediate expulsion and repatriation of thestudent at their own expense. The intervention of the policemay also be necessary in such an event.

EC reserves the right to expel and repatriate a student athis/her own expense for any reasons including but not limitedto the circumstances listed below:

Possession and/or use of any illegal drugsConsumption of alcoholMalicious damage to school property and/or place ofaccommodationBeing a danger to his/her own safety or that of other studentsBreaking Maltese lawRepeated failure to attend academic lessons and/or activitiesDisrespect to EC Staff membersSmoking

In any of the above circumstances, the student will be informedthat their stay will be terminated with immediate effect.Simultaneously, EC will inform the student’s agent about thestudent’s behaviour and the course of action to be taken. Theearliest flight available will be booked and an EC staff memberwill accompany the student to the airport to ensure that thestudent leaves the country safely. Following such action, EC willterminate all relationships with the student and will be unableto take further responsibility for the student. No refunds will begiven to any student who has been expelled.

At EC, we endeavour to provide our students with the highestpossible level of service. If, however, a student is unsatisfiedwith any aspect of their programme with EC, we ask that theyinform us immediately. Most problems are small and can bequickly resolved by our staff members. During the first week ofschool, all students are given an arrival survey. The surveyallows students the opportunity to bring to our attentionanything that is not to their satisfaction should they feel unableto speak to us directly. Solutions to any issues will be providedand all necessary parties will be notified when applicable.Students are also requested to complete a relationship surveyat the end of their stay so that they have the opportunity toprovide EC with general feedback before returning to theirhome country.

The consumption of alcohol by Young Learners students is notallowed. Students who consume alcohol risk being expelledfrom EC and repatriated to their home country at their ownexpense.

Course CertificateStudents must attend all lessons and organised activities inorder to receive their End of Course Certificate.

Money Transfer ArrangementEC does not provide a pocket money service for students.Parents should ensure their children have sufficient pocketmoney for the duration of their stay. Should students requirepocket money during their stay, parents are asked to transferfunds through an international transfer service which isavailable at 10€ charge.

Discipline

In order to manage student behaviour, EC staff may issue aformal warning, notify parents, ban students from an activity orwithhold the End of Course Certificate, if the studentmisbehaves.

NoteEC may, from time to time, make an exception and allowstudents outside the stated age range to participate in one ormore of the Young Learner programmes. For more information,please speak with your EC contact.
