German public operator Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS) ordered eight hybrid tram trains of the Citylink type in August 2012

for use in the «Chemnitzer Modell» project that connects the tram line in Chemnitz with the commuter rail network without

transshipments. VMS also ordered four additional units in July 2015 to be used in the second phase of the project.

The bidirectional hybrid vehicles cover tramway applications and full train operations at 100 km/h, are certified according to

BOStrab and EBO, and have been adapted to the Chemnitz network without changes in infrastructure. They are able to operate on

600/750 V DC overhead voltage on the city’s tramway network. On the railway network they are diesel powered. They enable access

from different platform heights and are also fitted with toilets and luggage racks.

Citylink is a modular, barrier-free and low-floor light rail vehicle family specially designed to provide a safe and highly comfortable

ride.
