Silva VP Manuel J. Silva recently was named a Vice President and Director of Construction Services by M&J Engineering, PC (M&J) following 32 years of professional service with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). During the course of his tenure at NYSDOT, he served as Regional Construction Manager for Region 11, and managed Construction’s Local Let and railroad groups for Regions 10 and 11 by providing supervision and oversight of their respective locally-sponsored federally funded construction programs and railroad-related activities.He managed over 75 active construction contracts, totaling approximately $3 billion, including the Rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge, the replacement of various bridges on the Belt Parkway, and the replacement of the Willis Avenue and City Island bridges.He also supervised approximately $640 million on capital projects in New York City (Region 11) involving 10 construction contracts, including the Major Deegan Expressway, which, through value engineering under Mr. Silva’s guidance, over 1 ½years are projected to be saved on that project’s schedule. Previously, Mr. Silva served for 14 years as Area Construction Supervisor for NYSDOT Region 11 where he worked on major projects including the $420 million Alexander Hamilton Bridge and Highbridge Interchange Ramps Rehabilitation Project, the largest completed single contract construction project in the history of NYSDOT at that time.The project was completed on time and within budget and was presented with the AGC/NYS Excellence in Partnering Award along with numerous other accolades.He also oversaw the $400 million reconstruction of the West Side Highway (Route 9A) which entailed five construction segments under heavily trafficked conditions, the construction of a new temporary detour road bypassing the World Trade Center site after the 9-11 attack that was built in seven weeks, and the construction of a temporary pedestrian bridge at Rector Street affording safe crossing across the very active highway. M&J Engineering Names Manuel J. Silva VP

Manuel J. Silva recently was named a Vice President and Director of Construction Services by M&J Engineering, PC
