ShareFile stores data at rest using AES 256-bit encryption. You can also encrypt data at rest with your own encryption keys. To protect data in transit and during editing, ShareFile supports SSL 3.0/TLS 1.0 with up to AES 256-bit encryption and no less than 128-bit encryption.

To protect files even after they are downloaded, ShareFile has native Information Rights Management (IRM), which ensures that only people who should have access to information in shared files can read them, even if those files are emailed outside of ShareFile, downloaded to another device, or saved on a USB stick. File Sharing can be managed by creating granular folder permissions for individual users, granting users download-only access or full upload, edit and delete rights.

You can also connect ShareFile to popular DLP systems to restrict document sharing based on a file’s content, ideal for organizations

that need to secure data such as Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or protected health information (PHI). DLP systems supported include Symantec Data Loss Prevention, McAfee DLP Prevent, Websense TRITON® AP-DATA and RSA Data Loss Prevention.

For customers requiring even more data security, ShareFile Restricted StorageZones allow you to store data completely behind the firewall. File and folder metadata in Restricted StorageZone are encrypted with your keys for zero-knowledge visibility to outsiders, and file sharing access is exclusive and limited to specified internal users who must pass a dual authentication process.

ShareFile integrates with Office 365, allowing Web-based editing and co-authoring, as well as access to OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint data. With the ShareFile Plugin for Microsoft Outlook, users can insert links to files, upload and send new files, and request files directly from Microsoft Outlook email messages. Plugin options let ShareFile users specify whether to send files through ShareFile only if an attachment exceeds a specified size; choose when to expire files and links sent from ShareFile; opt to present a link in an email as text or in a banner; or require recipients to provide their name and email address or to log in to ShareFile to download a sent file.

ShareFile also fully supports Windows 10 with apps that provide extended functionality. With the ShareFile Windows 10 Universal App, users can browse their accounts, download documents for offline use, send and request files via email, and add and manage folder access from any Windows 10 computer, tablet, or phone.

ShareFile Sync for Windows automatically synchronizes folders on users’ PCs with folders in their ShareFile account in real-time. When ShareFile is used in virtualized environments like XenApp and XenDesktop, ShareFile can be configured to save storage and increase performance of file syncing.
