Magnificat

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. Amen

A special thanks to our advertisers for their support!

Celebrated each year on August 15, the Feast of the

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin's pass-ing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Mar-ian feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation.

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also known The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, The Assumption of Mary Into Heaven, The Dormition of the Theotokos and The Falling Asleep of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Feast of the Assumption is a very old feast of the Church, celebrated universally by the sixth century. The feast was originally celebrated in the East, where it is known as the Feast of the Dormition, a word which means "the falling asleep." The earliest printed reference to the belief that Mary's body was assumed into Heaven dates from the fourth century, in a docu-ment entitled "The Falling Asleep of the Holy Mother of God." The document is written in the voice of the Apostle John, to whom Christ on the Cross had en-trusted the care of His mother, and recounts the death, laying in the tomb, and assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

Prayer for the Assumption of Mary

Father in heaven,

all creation rightly gives you praise,

for all life and all holiness come from you.

In the plan of your wisdom

she who bore the Christ in her womb

was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.

May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness

and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Catechists Needed

The Church of the Visitation Religious Education Pro-gram is in need of Catechists. There are several ways one can help: teaching a class, substituting, or being a Catechist Aid. Helping our children become good Catholic Christians is very rewarding work. Being a Catechist is doing God’s work, and because of this I am assured that our Lord has called our people to car-ry out His mission. Please, I ask you to pray and when you feel called, or would like to discern your call, please con-tact me at 254.715.0573. Thank you in advance for your prayers. — Linda Lorenz, DRE

• Are you married to a Catholic and curious?

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, First of all, I am very grateful for all the prayers and support as I continue to recover from Covid-19. I have pretty much experienced the majority of symptoms associated with the virus: chills, fever, aches and fatigue, loss of taste, and coughing. It does seem that I am improving, but I take it day by day at this point. Two weeks is what it seems to take for the virus to run its course, so I think I am getting close. Fr. Vincent will be here this weekend to cover the Masses for me, so I will see after the weekend if any symptoms are still present. On a positive note! Bishop Joe Vasquez has confirmed a date with me for the groundbreaking for the rebuilding of the Church. It will take place on September 9th at 9:30 am. It is Bishop Joe's intention that the groundbreaking event takes place during the week, so it would be less possibility of a large crowd gathering which is what we want to avoid at this time because of the pandemic. The Worship Office with the diocese will be contacting me with the details of what is to take place and what we need to prepare for the groundbreaking event. Julie Ellison of K-4 Construction informed me that the bids are going out this week as that process has also begun. Sincerely, your pastor in Christ Rev. Darrell Kostiha
