1133--1177,, 3344--3388 John's story of the man born blind weaves together the themes of light, sight, and insight. Jesus heals the man so that he can see. However, the Pharisees remain blind because they refuse to see who Jesus really is. They are more concerned about the Sabbath laws than they are about a fellow human being in need. The blind man gains not only his sight but also insight. When Jesus identifies himself as the Son of Man, a title for the Messiah, the man says, "I do believe, Lord." And he worships Jesus. As we worship Jesus in the Eucharist, our eyes are opened to see Christ in others. 1.) Who are the truly blind people in this Gospel passage? How can you keep from going through life "blind" to the reality of Jesus and his love in your life? 2.) How will you stay alert to really see and care for those who need Jesus' healing touch?

La historia de Juan sobre el hombre que nació ciego enlaza los temas de la luz, la vista y la ceguera. Jesús sana al hombre para que pueda ver. Sin embargo, los fariseos se quedan ciegos porque se niegan a ver quien es Jesús en realidad. A ellos les importa más el Sabat que la necesidad de un ser humano. El ciego no sólo es curado de su ceguera exterior sino también de su ceguera interior. Cuando Jesús se identifica como el Hijo del Hombre, otro nombre para Mesías, el ciego dice: "Señor, creo" y adora a Jesús. Cuando adoramos a Jesús en la Eucaristía nuestros ojos se abren para ver a Cristo en otros. 1.) ¿Quiénes son los "verdaderamente ciegos" en esta historia del evangelio? ¿Qué puedes hacer para no ir ciego a la realidad del amor de Jesús en tu vida? 2.) ¿Cómo te mantendrás alerta a la realidad de ver y cuidar de los que necesitan el toque sanador de Jesús?

People in Jesus' time thought blindness was caused by sinfulness. In today's Gospel, the Pharisees--the supreme rule-keepers--were far less concerned about the blind man than that Jesus broke the rule of the Sabbath. The rules governing what could and could not be done on the Sabbath seemed more important than rest from labor. When Jesus healed the blind man, the Pharisees labeled them both as sinners. We can be equally judgmental, ranging from annoyance if our grown children do not live their lives exactly as we do, all the way to condemnation of all those of a different religion or political persuasion. The angrier we are, the more blind we are to our lack of charity. Saint Paul says we live in the light of Christ and should try to produce "every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth" (Ephesians 5:9). En el Evangelio de hoy los fariseos--el grupo más aferrado a la ley--estaban más preocupados porque Jesús había quebrantado la ley del sábado que por el ciego. Las leyes acerca de lo que se permitía o no se permitía el sábado parecían más importantes que el descanso del trabajo. Cuando Jesús curó al ciego los fariseos catalogaron a ambos como pecadores. Nosotros podemos erigirnos igualmente jueces cuando nuestros hijos no viven del mismo modo que nosotros o hasta podemos llegar a condenar a otras personas de diferente religión o partido político. Cuanto más nos enojamos, más ciegos nos volvemos y más faltos de caridad. San Pablo dice que vivimos en la luz de Cristo y que nuestros frutos deben ser "la bondad, la santidad y la verdad". (Efesios 5:9). Las reglas tienen su lugar, pero algo falla cuando ponemos las reglas por encima de todo lo demás. Ésa es una ceguera que no podemos permitirnos. HHOOLLYY LLAANNDD PPIILLGGRRIIMMAAGGEE Epiphany has organized a fifteen day pilgrimage from November 7, 2020 to November 21, 2020 and will be travelling to Egypt, the Holy Land and Jordan with Fr. Eugene Tungol leading as the chaplain for the group. Sites that will be visited on the pilgrimage include: Mount Sinai, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth and Petra. Please visit the parish office for more information and passenger booking form.

LLIIGGHHTT “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light” (Ephesians 5:14). We are at the midpoint of our Lenten journey of conversion. As always, God never gives up on us, especially those who have “fallen asleep” along the road to conversion. The most powerful stories of conversion are proclaimed during these final weeks of Lent. They have the power to shake us out of our sleep. Today’s Gospel story of the healing of the man born blind exposes the real blindness in the time of Christ—the blindness of the self-righteous religious leaders. In a few weeks, at the Easter Vigil, the Church will proclaim “Christ our Light” as the paschal candle is carried into darkened churches throughout the world. SSTT.. VVIINNCCEENNTT DDEE PPAAUULL Do you know someone in the parish in need? You can have them call the parish office and ask for a visit from St. Vincent de Paul members. We can deliver groceries, help pay some urgent utility bills, or just visit a while! A person does not have to be Catholic. Please let the office know if a Spanish speaking person is required.

RREETTRROOUUVVAAIILLLLEE This Christian ministry is responsible for providing the tools to help save many tens of thousands of marriages and families over the last forty plus years. The program consists of a weekend experience followed by a series of post weekend sessions. Epiphany wants to make our parishioners and visitors aware of this family saving program. About 50% of married couples are likely to need help at some point. Retrouvaille is NOT group therapy and couples are not asked to share their problems or story with anyone else. The program focuses on teaching communication skills between a husband and wife. Couples are guided through the weekend by three presenting couples and a Catholic priest. The program is open to those of all faith traditions as well as those with no faith beliefs. El relato del Evangelio de hoy sobre la curación del ciego de nacimiento expone la verdadera ceguera en tiempos de Cristo –la ceguera de los líderes religiosos que se creían muy buenos y justos. Dentro de pocas semanas, en la Vigilia Pascual, la Iglesia proclamará a “Cristo nuestra Luz” cuando el Cirio Pascual es llevado dentro de las iglesias oscuras de todo el mundo. RREETTRROOUUVVAAIILLLLEE Este ministerio cristiano es responsable de proporcionar las herramientas para ayudar a salvar a decenas de miles de matrimonios y familias durante los últimos cuarenta años. You qualify as an “in parish” couple if you live within the parish boundaries or, have been registered and active for six months; or if you’re an alumni of School of the Epiphany. 2. If you do not meet one of the qualifications above, then you are considered an “outside of the parish” couple. Contact the parish office at least six months prior to the date of your proposed wedding to participate in our marriage preparation program.

AnointingoftheSickThis sacrament is for the elderly, the seriously ill, or those scheduled for surgery. Call the parish office when a family member is admitted to a hospital or nursing facility.
