PASTORAL REFLECTIONS
EVER ANCIENT . . . EVER NEW . . .
The Call of Abraham . . . to the 21st Century
This coming February 2nd, 2016, “The Year of Consecrated Life” will conclude with a special Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Archbishop John Joseph Myers celebrating. With the year now coming to an end I thought it a great idea to share about my vocational call.
First of all, did you ever wonder how I ever got to St. Mary’s since I had been in far-away Texas? This is a great story, but I think at the close of “The Year of consecrated Life” it is better I share my vocation story first. My vocation story begins with my Mother, Marie Dublino. When my Mom met my Dad, she was not a Catholic, and the “rule” was no one marries into the Dublino Family unless they become a Catholic! So un-be-known to my Dad and the family, my Mom went to a Parish secretly and was instructed in the Faith, and they did get married. Seven years later and the birth of two little girls, my Mother got seriously ill and was admitted to St. Elizabeth Hospital because of a heart condition. During her stay there she had a Sister for her nurse. My Mom’s experience with Sister must have been very inspiring to my Mom, because before she died, she expressed the desire that one of her little girls would become a Sister. This was indeed her final prayer for not long after that, at the age of only 24, Mom died while in the hospital. I was only two at the time so I really never got to know my Mother nor this story! It was only after I decided to enter religious life that my relatives shared my Mother’s dying desire for her children. For all you Moms reading this, never doubt the power of your prayer for your children! I am the “fulfillment” of my Mother’s dying prayer!
On the journey with you,
Sister Georgette

After all Masses on January 23rd and 24th, a set of two boxed 9" white taper candles will be available for order for a donation of $5.00. Candles purchased will be labeled and blessed at the 11:30 AM Mass on January 31st, and may be taken home after. Parishioners are invited to bring any other candles they would like blessed on Candlemas to the Rectory by Friday, January 29th. Please make sure they are marked with your name.
