State OKs Suffolk Community College Riverhead Last week the Board of Trustees of the State University gave its approval for the establishment of a community college in Suffolk County. Methods of financing the institution are now under study. The two-year community col- lege will be situated temporarily on a yet-undetermined ' location west of Patchogue. It will have a liberal arts program for students planning to transfer to regular four year colleges. Long range plans call for a $4,000 , 000 perman- ent campus for 2,000 students. Huntington Supervisor Ernest W. Johnson, chairman of the board' s education committee , said it is hoped to open the college next September in spite of stron g op- position from Eastern supervisors. They claim that because the col- lege would be located in the west , it would be somewhat inacessible to residents of their towns and wes- tern towns should pay for it. Several plans are being consid- ered to finance the institution ' s operation, including a sales tax on "luxuries. " although most county officials agree that it would be dif- ficult to levy since Nassau County does not have such a tax. State OKs SuffolkCommunity College

Riverhead — Last week theBoard of Trustees of the StateUniversity gave its approval forthe establishment of a communitycollege in Suffolk County. Methodsof financing the institution arenow under study.

The two-year community col-lege will be situated temporarilyon a yet-undetermined ' locationwest of Patchogue. It will have aliberal arts program for studentsplanning to transfer to regularfour year colleges. Long rangeplans call for a $4,000,000 perman-ent campus for 2,000 students.

Huntington Supervisor Ernest W.Johnson, chairman of the board' seducation committee , said it ishoped to open the college nextSeptember in spite of strong op-position from Eastern supervisors. They claim that because the col-lege would be located in the west,it would be somewhat inacessibleto residents of their towns and wes-tern towns should pay for it.

Several plans are being consid-ered to finance the institution 'soperation, including a sales tax on"luxuries." although most countyofficials agree that it would be dif-ficult to levy since Nassau Countydoes not have such a tax.
