IMMANUEL
What do Christians mean when we say “Jesus is Lord?” For some that confession is a show of respect. We mean that Jesus is the ultimate authority. Others may say Jesus is Lord as a promise of obedience, Jesus is the Lord of my life. While it is certainly true that Jesus deserves ultimate respect and He is the head of the church and our lives, the confession “Jesus is Lord” means much more, it also means Jesus is God.
An angel told Joseph that Jesus is the “Immanuel” which means, in Hebrew, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:18-25) Jesus was God in human form. That means that God has done everything possible to communicate with us, spiritually, intellectually, and personally. Of course the overall import of this is much too great to cover in a short newsletter article but, at least in part, it is fair to say that since Jesus is God then;
God was a commoner (Matthew 13:54-57)
God was a political refugee (Matthew 2:13-15)
God was a small town boy (Matthew 2:23)
God was a working man (Mark 6:3)
God was called crazy by some of his family (Mark 3:21)
God faced Satanic temptation (Matthew 4:1-11)
God was called demonic (Mark 3:28-30)
