Creativity, wisdom, and trusteeship: Exploring the role of education
‘This distinguished group of educators and
scholars examine the topic within its social and
cultural context; within the context of cognitive
psychology and the neurosciences; and within
the context of what it means to do work that is
both excellent and ethical within the
professions, most importantly as educators.’
Understanding art in primary schools.
‘Even the youngest children in primary
schools are now required not only to make
art, but also to study it, developing an
understanding of the huge variety of art and
craft from different times and places. But
how do teachers actually tackle this, when
most have not studied art themselves? This
collection brings together case studies to
show how a variety of teachers have used
one particular art collection as a focus for
practical art.
Throughout, the voices of the children
involved show us how they react to their
encounters with art objects.
This wealth of first hand evidence and
practical experience will benefit all
teachers.’
The UK Government's publication of "All our Futures:
Culture, Creativity and Education" has started a
discussion about fostering creativity in education.
Literature on creativity has made two assumptions:
that we can learn about creativity by focussing on the
work of geniuses; and creativity is the preserve of
the arts, rather than the concern of the curriculum as
a whole. This examination offers a guide to issues of
practice, pedagogy and policy concerned with
creative education.
Creativity in Education
“Yes. Kids are born scientists. They’re born probing the
natural world that surrounds them. They’ll lift up a rock.
They’ll pick up a bug. They’ll pull petals off a flower.
They’ll ask you why the grass is green and the sky is blue,
and they’ll experiment with breakable things in your
house. I think the best thing a parent can do, when raising
a child, is simply get out of their way.” Neil deGrasseTyson (2011) American Astrophysicist

I sense that I’m going to receive from my research an
amount of personal opinions and reasoning's for
choices of child-raising as well as scientific facts about
the way children learn about the world whilst going
through early development.
I’m hoping to gain at the end of my research
a thorough investigation into how play,
creativity and different styles of education
benefits children when learning and
discovering about the world. I believe by
having the knowledge about how children
learn, I can use this thinking into my practice
to make it valuable for children to learn from
and yet be interactive enough to be
enjoyable.
