2.0 SYNOPSIS
Chemical Engineering Laboratory III is a continuation of the previous Chemical Engineering
Laboratory I and II works. This course covers experiments related to chemical reactions that
occur in various reactors types as well as separation processes.
3.0 OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Identify laboratory procedures.
2. Analyze experimental units.
3. Evaluate the experiments in relation to the fundamental theories and concepts.
4.0 METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Laboratory experiments, consultation for open-ended lab & report writing: 3 hours/week

14 1 All experiments TEST
Student should carry out minimum six (6) experiments which consist of three (3) open-ended
experiments and another three (3) for normal procedural experiments. The following are the
equipments available for experiments:
1 Gas Absorption Unit
2 Gas Adsorption Unit
3 Gas Diffusion Unit
4 Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR)
5 Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) in series
6 Plug Flow Reactor
7 Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) – Pilot Size (40L)
8 Tubular Flow Reactor
Student should carry out minimum six (6) of the above experiments during the semester. In case of
any above experiments is not available, alternative experiments or special assignment(s) shall be
conducted.
For selected open-ended experiments, the activities should include:
1. Preparing experimental procedure based on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of each
equipment.
2. Discussion/consultation with lecturer and lab technician/lab assistant on experimental
procedure and suitability of chemicals/materials to be used.
