On ALL HOLIDAYSSupport can take many forms; this week in Chase two totally different fundraising efforts are happening

for exactly the same cause. Roseann Deleuuw, lost her life to smoke

inhalation in a tragic house fire in Ed-monton just before Christmas this year. Rozy’s death left behind an eight month old who her family is now seeking cus-tody of. This has them incurring court fees, travel expenses and home inspec-tion costs.

Rozy who was 26, grew up in Chase and was known and loved by many, who are doing what they can to help out her fam-

ily. Janelle Iglesias, a childhood friend of

Rozy is putting on a “Joga” session with 100% of the proceeds going to the family.

“We were best buds, growing up in a small community,” said Janelle.

Suggested admission is $5 and there will be a donation box .

“Any amount helps,” said Janelle. Joga, “Yoga for Jocks”, is an athletic

based version of yoga that focuses on a unique blend of postures to find balance in strength and flexibility, a variety of breathing techniques. Janelle, a certified Joga Instructor, teaches a class at the Uni-versity in Kelowna where she lives now.

This special fundraiser Joga session, on Sunday, February 1st at 7 pm at the Chase Community Hall, will be more relaxed to accommodate non-jocks. She is planning 10 minutes of warm up and will continue into a nice deep stretch.

In addition to your donation, bring your own yoga mat if you have one, water bot-tle, and a light sweater for warmth during the stretching segment.

Another TragedyDear Editor,Sadly, over the weekend, another

person was left to die, alone, in the stairwell behind the Curling Club and tragically, we can expect it to happen again. Surely, this Village and its Citi-zens have the will to ensure that these kinds of abuses are curtailed and that human beings are not abandoned like garbage, to be cleaned up by someone else.A Very Disheartened,

Scoop the PoopKudos to all those responsible dog own-

ers who are picking up after their pets. I see from the conditions of the sidewalks there are still many irresponsible people who think it’s just fine to own a dog but not it’s droppings. Please consider there are lots of little kids that have to walk those sidewalks to school every day and who are not always aware enough to step around or over YOUR dog’s poop. Our sidewalks should not have to be an obstacle course. Yesterday I talked with one young mother who was walking with a shovel cleaning off the sidewalk where her kids have to walk. She doesn’t own a dog but you do. You know who you are. Please people............you get to enjoy the dog so be responsible owners and con-siderate members of our community. Ellen Blackburn

A hot dog fundraiser by the Chase Lions and Chase Rotary for Rozy Deleeuw’s family was “overwhelm-ingly successful”. Bev Iglesias of the Lions and Rotarians Richard Waugh and Doug Everett set up a BBQ in front of Naramada midday Wednesday, January 28th, selling hot dogs and cocoa on donation. “The community came through to support one of its own. We thank everyone on behalf of the family,” said Everett.

Q• What do you do for fun?A• I love garage sales. I love the deals. And road trips. We [her kids & Leslie) love to go to Vancouver and stay on Robson Street. Q• Do you have a life motto?A• Honesty is the best policy. Q• You are old friends with Rick Berrigan, how do you think he is doing as Mayor?A• I think he is doing fantastic, he has stepped up to the job. He is passionate and loyal to the community of Chase. [NOTE: Rick popped in the office to declare “Don’t believe anything she says about me!”]Q• Who should I talk to next?A• Roy Nelson or Vic Calvert

Each week we’ll ask 10 lighthearted questions of somebody different. This week we are talking to Shelley Van Dusen who co-manages the Chase restaurant Out to Lunch with her long-time friend Leslie Turner.

Village Lanes played host to one of five zone finals for the Ha-waiian Pick-A-Partner play

offs this past Sunday. Ten teams took part in the four game roll off with the top two teams advancing to the Pro-vincial finals slated for Falcon Lanes in Kamloops on Saturday February 21st. Leading the way on Sunday were two local teams consisting of Gwen Sokal and her sister Shirley Danyluk along with the second place qualifiers Ty and Kristi La-Croix. The teams will compete in a five game provincial fi-nal against twelve other provincial fi-nalists with top spot win-ning a trip for four to Ha-waii for one week.

Also this past Sunday Village Lanes youth teams competed in the 45th Annual Fruitbowl tournament in Kelowna. Placing first in the Bantam girls division was Jada

Skjeie with a whopping 112 pins over her average for the four games. Also winning the senior boys singles event was Tristan Jules who was an astound-ing 188 pins over his average.

The next event at Vil-lage Lanes will be on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1st kicking off at 12 noon with the Super Bowl Shoot Out. This event is a

Quelling the STORM Before the GRIZZLIES Wake Up Contributed by Scott Koch

This past weekend in the KIJHL saw the Chase HEAT with a pair of home games versus the Kam-

loops STORM and the Revelstoke GRIZ-ZLIES. Both are divisional rivals in a very tight race for a playoff berth down the stretch in the regular season. The HEAT currently tied for 2nd, have 7 regular sea-son matches left and are in control of their own destiny.

This story unfolds with Kamloops at AHMA on Friday the 23rd. The previous weekend the score 7-6 for the big city team. A healthy sized crowd shows up to be en-tertained and the atmosphere is electric, and the home boys come through BIG! In the 1st on the powerplay Chad Wilde dis-plays some magic assisted by Austin Willier and Kaleb Boyle. There is no scoring in the 2nd as Chase remains relentless with their speed and tenacity. In the 3rd icing is put three feet deep on the cake as first Connor Harding shows some offensive flair assist-ed by Travis Beaubien and Tommy Brown, then Kolten Moore on a breakaway from Cole Perison and Alex Durbeniuk prior to Tyler “Shifty Moves” Mork closing things

out from Captain Boyle. Michael Byer in the twine comes up huge stopping all 31 shots for the first shutout of his career.

So Saturday night the 24th the Mad Bears from the Mountain Mecca show up at AHMA and seek to move up from 5th in the standings. The largest crowd of the sea-son is there and in the 1st Wesley Matsuda plunks the puck in the cave behind the Bears tender, as-sisted by Moore and Beaubien. In the 2nd Wilde pops one in from Cody Hodges and Boyle, and that is followed less than 2 minutes later by Hodges scoring assisted by his linemates Boyle and Wilde. It’s now 3-0 and this present to the fans is all wrapped up…or is it? In the 3rd the inten-sity from Revelstoke rises as they come out of hibernation with 1:37 left in the 60 min-utes. Now it is 3-1, the HEAT suffer a delay

of game penalty and the GRIZZLIES pull their goalie, 2 man advantage and mayhem in the blue paint in front of Daniel Toews with 37 seconds left and it is a new game 3-2! That ends up the score at the end with this contest being an unexpected nail biter. The moral in this one –don’t poke a sleep-

ing bear!ICE CHIPS: Hodges

is 4th in KIJHL scor-ing with Boyle 17th. All 3 goalies, Byer, Nic Bruyere and Toews have a shutout this season. “Bulldozer” Harding added to his resume with his 2nd goal of the season, he leaves dents when he hits! Moore spent time in the sin bin

thanks to a timely hit that saw him launched head first into it – he came out smiling! Next up are the Sicamous EAGLES on Wednesday the 28th at 7:00 pm, then Fri-day the 30th at MacPark in Kamloops ver-sus the STORM. The Players appreciate the crowds and the support provided!
